- decker12, on 11/06/2009, -17/+76After reading the summary of the article, I have absolutely no idea what the hell it's about. Did some guy throw for more home runs and then punted for an extra touchdown or something?
- leukram, on 11/06/2009, -1/+41I have never in my entire life felt so completely ignorant about a sports story. It was like trying to read a foreign language for the first time. Guess I better brush up on my cricket knowledge.
- tito13kfm, on 11/06/2009, -4/+38Oh, it's Cricket. Marvelous game, really. You see, the bowler hurls the ball toward the batter who tries to play away a fine leg. He endeavors to score by dashing between the creases, provided the wicket keeper hasn't whipped his bails off, of course.
- joio, on 11/06/2009, -5/+30Hit for Master Blaster. Good Going Sachin.

He is truly head and shoulders above everybody else. - koyner, on 11/06/2009, -2/+22Cricket is very big in:
India - 1,198,003,000 people
Pakistan - 180,808,000
Sri Lanka - 20,238,000
Bangladesh - 162,221,000

South Africa - 49,320,000

So there are a few people that "give a *****". - bloupotlood, on 11/06/2009, -4/+23Its quite the achievement, well, if you reside outside the States...
- Warren803, on 11/06/2009, -5/+21Yes, but you're posting in a US based forum/website. I would bet 75% of this website's members are US based. You're talking about a sport that has an almost non-existant fan base in the US.
And no I'm not bashing foreigners, because I am one myself. - souravondigg, on 11/06/2009, -4/+19Finally, there something in Digg not related to the States. Cheers!
- v4vishal, on 11/06/2009, -3/+15Dugg for cricket + Sachin
- cococrispies, on 11/06/2009, -20/+30how did goddamn cricket make the front page
- prakash1234, on 11/06/2009, -4/+14Dugg for cricket + india
- architerp, on 11/06/2009, -18/+28WTF is this even about?
- twisterrust, on 11/06/2009, -0/+9Ok let me explain cricket to you
You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.
Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.
When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out.
Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in.
There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.
When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game - rockstar555y, on 11/06/2009, -5/+13Quite. Simply. The greatest batsman ever !
- gulrezdoc, on 11/06/2009, -1/+9he is a legend
- souravondigg, on 11/06/2009, -2/+10I thought the internet is a global village though.
- raydeen, on 11/06/2009, -0/+8Ok, I read the wiki article and it still makes no sense. Quantum physics, string theory and special relativity are easier to understand. But congrats to the man for whatever the hell it was he did.
- brownsound00, on 11/06/2009, -0/+7It's tough to think about. I'll try and put it into perspective.
100 runs by a batsmen in a game is like a hat trick in hockey, 50 points in basketball, 3 touchdown catches in football (or runs) or 3 home runs in one game in baseball.
17,000 runs is a lot... so if you were to take the home run record (741 or something like that... it would be at 850 or so). - belthize, on 11/06/2009, -2/+9Ironically unless you understand American baseball and football the GP's post isn't funny.
Throwing for a home run and punting for a touchdown. It was actually a very effective post for getting across confusion about sports with the terms available.
Lighten up a little, GP was funny, even if only to an United States'ian. - Crimeodial, on 11/06/2009, -0/+6Well, to be honest, a lot of baseball fans don't really understand the game either.
- ranon78, on 11/06/2009, -1/+7* lost
- dragoon142, on 11/06/2009, -0/+6as opposed to american football? with one country that actually "matters" by your criteria?
- cyberoidx, on 11/06/2009, -1/+6Haha funny.... http://3.ly/bestgameevar
- souravondigg, on 11/06/2009, -1/+6In a summary, Sachin (the person mentioned in the article) is the highest run scorer in more than 125 years of cricket, ever. Which means he is like the highest point scorer in baseball.
- MWeather, on 11/06/2009, -4/+9Rugby is like football, but with real men who aren't afraid to play without pads.
- souravondigg, on 11/06/2009, -2/+7http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cricket
Next time I will say the same thing about baseball. - supersweetvopni, on 11/06/2009, -0/+5I'm going to take a stab at it and say UK, Australia and India. This is of course what he probably meant -- not my opinion.
- rocketz, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4w00t... even though I support South Africa this is epic... CRICKET ON THE FRONT PAGE OF DIGG
- souravondigg, on 11/06/2009, -4/+8Let me see if I can answer:
Q: Who gives a flying *****?
A: Those who do not give a damn about rugby and baseball. And yeah, live outside the great USA. - gulrezdoc, on 11/06/2009, -2/+6well apparently some people do
http://www.askmen.com/sports/business_150/155c_spo ...
http://members.forbes.com/global/2006/0424/061.htm ... - mbangham, on 11/06/2009, -4/+8we don't play rugby either...
- prakash1234, on 11/06/2009, -1/+5americans should watch the movie about cricket called 'lagaan' its 100 times better than slum dog millionaire
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagaan - slvrbullet87, on 11/06/2009, -11/+15I have no clue what this article is saying
- CrowMobe23, on 11/06/2009, -4/+8"Little Jerry just ran from Kramer's apartment to Newman's in 7 seconds."
"Is that good??"
"I don't know" - ks13, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4Get your facts straight
One day centuries
1. Tendulkar : 45
2. Jayasurya/Ponting : 28 - nomadspartan, on 11/06/2009, -10/+14Bravo Sachin! for 175 of 141 ball.
The little master came close to breaking Saeed Anwar's unbeatable record of 194 off 146 balls in 1997 in chennai, but none the less great batting as always by Sachin. - NoamChimpsky, on 11/06/2009, -2/+5You gotta know what a crumpet is to understand cricket!
- javedp, on 11/06/2009, -2/+5Answer: People that dont give a flying ***** about baseball, NFL, NHL and so on.
- digjam, on 11/06/2009, -1/+4One thing I don't understand...if people from other countries can embrace "american" sports like NFL, BASEBALL, NBA etc with the same passion and zeal as americans do.. why aren't americans ready to embrace anything other than what they already know???
I guess that why americans are lagging behind while the rest of the world is racing past..
OPEN YOUR EYES! - souravondigg, on 11/06/2009, -9/+12I really hope you were trying to crack a joke. If not, I have the below link for you:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cricket
Please remember that there is world beyond USA, and there are games other than rugby and baseball. - gardnmi, on 11/06/2009, -2/+5This is like the third cricket article I have seen make the front page. I see less american sports articles hit the digg front page than cricket.
- Warren803, on 11/06/2009, -4/+7I'm just responding since you cracked a comment about the previous poster needing to understand that there is a world outside the US.
You need to understand the audience also. I mean, I wouldn't go and post a Taylor Swift article in a Metallica forum and expect the responses to be all rosy. - jasvll, on 11/06/2009, -2/+5Everything I know about cricket, I learned from a turtle and a hockey player. Did they leave anything out?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_6KMGB_Pkw#t=2m0s - newerakb, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3I think I figured out my confusion. I didn't realize that "one-day" was a game type. I read that as "17000 runs in a single day", not "17000 runs in a career of one-day games".
Thanks for the info guys. - souravondigg, on 11/06/2009, -1/+4Excuse me, would you like to name the 3 countries?
- uberchaoslord, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3I can see more than 3 countries in there that matter.
- newerakb, on 11/06/2009, -1/+3I'm another cricket-ignorant American...but is 17,000 as many as it sounds like? Like, are numbers in the thousands typical? Is this the baseball equivalent of like a final score of 20, or the baseball equivalent of a final score of 350? Most sports don't have numbers in the thousands...if they do, it seems like their point scale is off somewhere.
- qwer1234qwer, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2It was amazing game.. But all I can say hard luck for India.. :(
- ranon78, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2You are right ks13. Thanks for the correction.
