- lapurkitarus, on 03/03/2009, -1/+39As if it also wasn't hard enough to convince other nations to tour in Pakistan this happens. Really hoping that SL players are OK. Definitely some great guys on that team.
- cornernoize, on 03/03/2009, -1/+28Why does this focus so much on the crickets players who are all just wounded as opposed to the DEAD POLICEMEN
Some reports aren't even mentioning the dead policemen anymore - 13ohemian, on 03/03/2009, -1/+22Everyones fine now , they have been escorted from the stadium (after they were attacked) via a helicopter to the airport.
First when Srilanka anounced that they were going to come to pakistan there was major opposition from india..they really got pissed , but they still came.
And after this Jayawardne , still said that his team doesn't regret the visit they made , as they purely came to help Pakistan to improve its reputation.
I don't know if it helps being a Pakistani i would like to apologize to all the Srilankan team and people. - Stalyx, on 03/03/2009, -2/+20Quick updates: Apparently 5 players hurt. Including the captain and the vice captain. Not very seriously thankfully. Mostly debris, but according to one report one player had shrapnel in his leg and chest, but was still considered a minor injury. The players are apparently being flown back to Sri-Lanka asap

This is a very sad day for cricket in general. Especially considering that Sri-Lankan team agreed to play because India pulled out due to security issues. Also this could mean the end of international cricket in Pakistan for some time. - lihkin, on 03/03/2009, -0/+16What's the point of this shooting? The Sri Lankans were doing the Pakistanis a favor by playing there when India pulled out citing security reasons.
RIP all the dead policemen. - dtele, on 03/03/2009, -1/+16Aussie umpire Steve Davis tells of cricket ambush terror.
"It was terrible. The van driver died in front of us. I am lost for words," stunned Aussie cricket umpire Steve Davis said after gunmen turned an upmarket Pakistani square into a battleground.
http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,2204 ... - suzanek, on 03/03/2009, -1/+15Thats really bad.
- pingudownunder, on 03/03/2009, -2/+14Although the majority of the media is concentrating on the cricketers injuries, we shouldn't forget the six policemen in the security escort that have been murdered in this attack.
- snapneck, on 03/03/2009, -1/+11Really sad. Pakistan has been counting on cricket to make them some revenue, guess that is going to get hurt now too as more teams would not want to tour there anymore due to security concerns.
Hope the SL players recover soon - dtele, on 03/03/2009, -2/+11Yeah agreeed - I cant see the Aussies touring there now.
- sathias, on 03/03/2009, -2/+10So much for playing cricket in Pakistan... they were having trouble enough getting players there, the Aussies pulled out of their last tour.
- lapurkitarus, on 03/03/2009, -1/+9Yeah I can't see anyone touring them for a long time. This is so senseless. I mean seriously this is a game, there is no room for such things. I was actually following the Ind vs. NZ game online when I heard about this. I started following the events on a message board I frequently visit. The update is that the tour has been canceled and there are also rumors of serious injuries to some SL players (specifically Vaas).
- vaibhavsuneja, on 03/03/2009, -4/+11India can never thing of doing anything like this. Its only your internal fight Don't blame India for this. I dnt know what the hell your security forces are doing. from where they get rocket launchers and all that stuff
- spookyttws, on 03/03/2009, -2/+9Oddly, this story hits the front page as I'm watching the new episode of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, Sri Lanka.
But in all seriousness, this is horrible. And what kind of person uses RPG's to attack Cricket players? - daftbrain, on 03/03/2009, -0/+7I don't think anyone's blaming Islam and it is wrong to say Pakistanis in general are to blame but it definitely does appear to be very likely that a militant group based in Pakistan that carried out this attack. What sort of other group, 14 strong, could possibly have carried out such an attack in Lahore? The attack bears a very strong resemblance to the one on Mumbai (both involve trained gunmen) and the key suspects in that attack are Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is a militant group based in Pakistan. Hopefully the people responsible for this attack will get caught.
- TrevorBelmont, on 03/03/2009, -0/+6I'm so sick of this. "It's ok! I saw it in a movie!"
- angularvelocity, on 03/03/2009, -4/+10religion of peace strikes again ..... :D
- Stavrosian, on 03/03/2009, -2/+7How about you lay off the preaching and express your sympathy for the victims for now you rampant *****-gobbler?
- nirav72, on 03/03/2009, -2/+7@Mohammad786 - Go ahead, blame it on India for ***** that Pakistan sowed is actually grown into a pitbull and is coming to bite you in the arse now.
- sjinadasa, on 03/03/2009, -1/+6Since when did any international news agency report military deaths unless they were either from the us or the uk, (or any other western state). RIP to the security guys, they did all they could.
- LupeFiasco, on 03/03/2009, -0/+5@ishootjunk
Wrong war numb nuts. Way to generalize. - daftbrain, on 03/03/2009, -0/+5I completely agree; those who were killed (policemen and civilians) should always be mentioned but you have to admit that what makes this attack so newsworthy is the fact that an international sports team was the specific target of a terrorist attack.
- nmoulana, on 03/03/2009, -10/+15So much for "land of the pure".
- sjinadasa, on 03/03/2009, -1/+5Hope pakistan can sort this terrorism/fundamentalist mess out before some asses like the taliban decide to start a revolution and destroy that quite liberal country up. Luckily all the team members are safe, and only 2 got any 'considerable' injuries.
- weeFred, on 03/03/2009, -1/+5The ISI protects and used to train these terrorists. They ignore the training camps which have been set up throughout the country, they ignore the extremist madrases which help brainwash and recruit these fanatics. They bargain with the militants so they don't target Pakistani leadership in exchange for being allowed free reign in the towns they occupy. They need to rid their country of these extremists.
- Aaryn015, on 03/03/2009, -7/+11I hope your mom gets her face blown off by a terrorist so you understand why that wasn't even remotely funny.
- Crazysah, on 03/03/2009, -0/+4I feel really bad for the Sri Lankan cricketers. I think this will be the last terrorist attack in Pakistan for quite a long time now. Cricket in Pakistan will only get back to normal in 4-5 years. Lets hope for a better future in Pakistan and lets hope the WC doesn't get moved out of the Sub-Continent because of this!
- ultralights, on 03/03/2009, -3/+7sadly for the Pakistanis, Cricket is their national sport, like Baseball and football to Americans. somehow i dont think international sporting events will be held in Pakistan for a loooong time.. my money is on the Taliban, and their banning of sports under their rule.. now they have "won" and been given some ground in northern Pakistan, they are getting bolder and trying to enforce their views on the rest of the country. i could be wrong though.
- ortucis, on 03/03/2009, -0/+4"one is Islamic and the other is Hindu (mostly on both accounts)"
Ironically, Muslims in India are more happy than in both Bangladesh and Pakistan. Funny cause Pakistan was created cause those "evil Hindu's would convert them all", you know, just like all Islamic invaders tried to do with Hindus before killing millions when they didn't convert. - ortucis, on 03/03/2009, -0/+3"WC doesn't get moved out of the Sub-Continent because of this"
BCCI.. - nirav72, on 03/03/2009, -0/+3"I cant believe it was a walk in the park for these attackers!"
From the video, it seemed like they were really walking in a park or some type of area with a green lawn while firing their guns.
However, this is indeed terrible. - 13ohemian, on 03/03/2009, -1/+4Its been reported they were trained. No the the regular brainwashed militant.
- 13ohemian, on 03/03/2009, -0/+3"The security measures were supposed to be kept this way until if you see that a governor rule was imposed , tens of Officers and miinsters were sacked , and these terrorists had the perfect situation to execute their plan."
and about the blame game , yes i agree to it that whatever "HAS" been said against pakistan and is being said against india is not credible. - vinodmeshram, on 03/03/2009, -1/+4god bless SL players.
No one will tour pak in near future. - dtele, on 03/03/2009, -0/+3I guess the idiom "It's not cricket" really applies here.
- vinodmeshram, on 03/03/2009, -2/+5Pak minister blames India for attack on Lanka team
http://ibnlive.in.com/news/pak-minister-blames-ind ... - Sabretou, on 03/03/2009, -0/+3Terrorism doesn't work like that.
- viol999, on 03/03/2009, -0/+3I'll give you 3 guesses and the first 2 don't count.
- rjinso, on 03/03/2009, -1/+3They're not, apparently: "India and Australia have pulled out of cricket tours in Pakistan in the recent past citing security concerns." (from http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7920260.stm)
- auto98, on 03/03/2009, -1/+3Thats the irony rocketz - it was the same nation until partition in the 40's
- allroks, on 03/03/2009, -3/+5very bad...
- guy6600crazy, on 03/06/2009, -0/+2Theattempts to blame it on RAW is just silly. There is NO evidence at all other than an Intelligence report by the pakistani CID back in January. My question is - If the Intelligence reports by the Pakistani CID are credible then why no action was taken on it? The lankan bus had only one escort vehicle! And they took the same route over n over every day (says pak cricket team coach) & the route was not cordoned off. This means the intelligence reports of the Pakistani CID are rarely taken seriously. More over the Pak Government has now said there are no clear evidences against Indian hand.
"E-V-I-D-E-N-C-E" Thats what the whole pak was saying after Mumbai attacks. (The evidence was given & pak govt accepted the fact that Ajmal Kasab is a Pakistani) Now we are saying the same. Give us some credible evidence. Stop making blind accusations and give us some evidence. - inactive, on 03/03/2009, -1/+3Dick.
- assclown69, on 03/03/2009, -3/+5For a team that plays some of the best and fairest cricket around this is just terrible. I'm so glad noone was seriously injured
Of course the other side of the coin is that so many incredibly talented Pakistani cricketers have shortened careers because of a lack of competition
Kia kaha Sri Lankan friends, our thoughts are with you in NZ. - Akaricloud, on 03/03/2009, -1/+3The true tragedy in this is the focus is entirely upon the cricket team and rather not on the 6 dead security officer which were protecting them or the others who were killed / are in hospital.
- loopyloopy, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2the cricketers are fine, they were lucky... a few have shrapnel wounds... nothing too serious
- loopyloopy, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2probably because the cricketers were the targets of the attacks because of their profile and being international visitors and all
incidentally one of the umpires in the motorcade was critically injured - terabaap, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2Those policemen wont be remembered for their courage. Unfortunately, people only see the 'terrorists' in Pakistan and fail to acknowledge the fight that under-payed and poorly equipped police officers put up. Pakistan is a victim.
- Sabretou, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2I know it's tempting, but it's actually Swat Valley not SWAT Valley. :D
- deathmatch, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2you must have a learning disability
