- miamiflashfan, on 08/18/2008, -1/+117Shouldnt they have some type of mat, instead of a hard gym floor?
- sockpuppets, on 08/18/2008, -2/+112"some type of mat."
- skipthefrog, on 08/18/2008, -1/+98Always keep your hands up.
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -3/+62Hello head - meet foot. Hello face - meet hardwood floor.

With spikes at the bottom also. Fatality. - AlpineStars777, on 08/18/2008, -6/+61Pow right in the kisser!

- staple, on 08/18/2008, -0/+48Are you telling me a tree spin kicked you in the face?
- sockpuppets, on 08/18/2008, -0/+38Sounds like a Spruce, they're all ***** like that.

- brainnovate, on 08/18/2008, -1/+30Wow I bet he won't just stand there like that again.
- down4twenty, on 08/18/2008, -0/+24its not the fighting style, the kid was a noob. it was painfully obvious the guy was preparing to do that, yet the kid charged right in, and coudlnt even get his foot up to kick before he got hit. simple case of mismatched experience levels
- altairchitect, on 08/18/2008, -1/+24Spruce Lee!!!

I can't imagine a fighting style that would encourage you to have your arms down at your side like that. If the guy had his arms up, he'd have had a chance against that kick. - inactive, on 08/18/2008, -3/+22so funny because it's true. i can never get enough of this stuff.
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -1/+20This is why you want to keep your hands up, not hanging down the side
- garblefung, on 08/18/2008, -0/+18It's simpler than that. I studied TKD before doing some Muay Thai, so I went in all gung ho on spinning TKD kicks. My MT instructor would nail me in the lower back every time and I would end up on my stomach. Back spin kicks work on most people, but not everyone. It's really dumb to present your back to someone that knows what they're doing. Watch the video, the kicker starts to spin his upper body before he does anything else. It's easy to spot once you've trained for it.
Arms up or down, if the guy wasn't hopping up and down, he could have swept the back leg, moved in ahead of the kick or just backed up and countered behind the kick. - D2Much, on 08/18/2008, -3/+21POW! right in the kisser!

No sir, that was awesome. - smartguy4932, on 08/18/2008, -3/+17Pow right in the kisser!
- Rubuntu, on 08/18/2008, -1/+15The helmet does nothing but protect from cuts and bruises, the brain still gets bounced hard against the skull causing contusions. A mat will help a little, really, they should be fighting on a mat on a raised platform.
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -5/+18YOU GOT KNOCKED THE FUGG OUT! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzfY-aXGcBY
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -2/+15Ouch! That's really gotta hurt!
- andyhite, on 08/19/2008, -1/+12The guy was actually taken out on a stretcher and had a pretty nasty concussion.
The guy delivering that ridiculous kick is actually my friend's little brother, who goes to West Point now. They both have black-belts in about 3 different disciplines.
It's pretty funny seeing that video on Digg. My friend showed it to me a few months ago. - inactive, on 08/19/2008, -0/+11I think the kick hurt a lot more than the floor did.
- zooey1234, on 08/18/2008, -1/+12A tree hit me like that once. When I was skiing downhill. It was like I hit a MAC truck.
- Evi1d33d, on 08/18/2008, -0/+10Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku
- TrueBuckeye, on 08/18/2008, -0/+10Yep, the hopping was a problem. The more experience fighter could time the kick knowing when his opponent would be flat footed.
Your counter kick idea is great except for the leg sweep. In tournament TKD, all kicks are required to be above the waist. - inactive, on 08/18/2008, -3/+13He waxed off that kid!
- Hudon689, on 06/13/2009, -0/+8He's right, most face kicks in taekwondo aren't prevented by blocking with your arms, but by dodging, swerving. Your arm can't stop a spin kick, the kick will just plow through your block and hit you anyways (considering taekwondo competitors have insane leg power, but relatively poor upper body strength).
- rl41, on 08/18/2008, -2/+10Slow motion replays should be mandatory for these videos
- Sornos, on 08/18/2008, -0/+8Awesome Predator reference.
- squaat, on 08/18/2008, -0/+8Actually *experienced* Taekwondo fighters will usually have their guard down. There are many reasons why. Some are asking for you to attack, so they can counter quickly, others prefer to dodge rather than block (so that they control the distance in a fight). Also in Taekwondo, your flanks are legit scoring area's and are prime target for the fastest kick, the round house or instep kick, so keeping your guard down lets you esily defend that vunerable scoring area.
However this is a competition tactic, where most matches are won on points rather than knockouts, so it has little meaning outside of competition rules. And you have to be pretty damn good to use it.
That being said, a spinning heel kick is a rather slow kick to be opening with (when compared with roundhouses and other kicks) so this one should have been easily dodged (though I admit, I've been caught off guard before) - inactive, on 08/18/2008, -1/+8*****!
BE A MAN FOR ONCE!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUXSqrDEWME - b0neman, on 08/18/2008, -1/+8A *lot* of karate/TKD tournaments are on hard wood floors. All of the tournaments I was in were hard wood. Only a few were in carpeted venues like a Regional or National tourney. That's pretty standard environment for a karate dude. A ring or an octagon is not very common for the average joe martial art weirdo.
- haelios, on 08/19/2008, -0/+7Hit the 'S' key and you'll get your slomo. One cool thing Break.com has.
- FurtThePirate, on 08/18/2008, -7/+14Is a hardwood mat ok?
- walshgopher, on 08/19/2008, -0/+6I bet if he had his hands up he would have punched himself in the face
- Someguy101, on 02/19/2009, -1/+7It looked like he didn't feel a thing...I'm sure he felt it later though
- lilrabbit129, on 08/18/2008, -0/+6The point of bouncing is to keep yourself moving on the balls of your feet. So in effect you are never "flat footed".
An added benefit to bouncing is so small corrections in your position or stance ( like the kind the guy that kicked did) would not be telegraphed.
Thats a text book example of keeping your hands up. First rule in TKD.. hands up. - digitalpencil, on 08/19/2008, -4/+10POW! Right in the Kisser!
- mike33kb, on 08/19/2008, -0/+5correct, that won't necessarily work against other styles, or on the street for that matter, but it works for what i use it for. I block all the scoring zones with my method, and to generate power, i just apply my hips to my blocks.
but your right, it won't work outside of TKD. - jeremyadam, on 08/18/2008, -3/+8PUT HIM IN A BODYBAG!!
