- NewChar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+112They do: it's called "push."
- Humptydank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+95I hope they have a procedure for removing a six-foot tall hysterically crying white man whose hands have locked to the chain and is constantly wetting himself and the people below him.
- Humptydank, on 10/12/2007, -2/+87My testicles retracted up to my lower jaw.
- Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -1/+65Holy crap. OSHA would definitely not permit the operating of such a trail in the US. I can't imagine hiking that with a backpack on. Just looking at those photos makes my fingernails hurt.
I'm trying to imagine the folks who nailed in the plank paths and installed the chains. That must have been one insane job. - mfratt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38"Yes yes we pay after job done."
*cuts support ropes* - WillSpencer, on 10/12/2007, -30/+68I guess it's a good thing that they have lots of spare Chinese...
- chicbicyclist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29What. The. *****. My lower jaw dropped to the floor!
- jocnnor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29At least it wasn't your upper jaw.
- droflovephd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25I was told the padlocks are a Chinese tradition. Lovers will go to a place like that and write there names in the lock and lock it to the chain and through away the key. It is supposed to symbolize they will not be able to be separated.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29I like the topic, "Topic: Other Sports"
- weprin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Surely one for which they were underpaid.
- jsp123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18I would hate to be their mailman.
- ZackScott, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Funny comments from that page:
VUGear: Um, what are those padlocks for? Just another link?
vebiltdervan: I dunno. Maybe some folks like to bike that trail, but their bikes got stolen? - ynggrsshppr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18It is a trail, in a national park- for regular people.
Wouldn't it be crazy if someone lived up there? - RationalAntaxia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19ohhhh hell no!
- Ninjab3ar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Too dangerous for my tastes.
- weprin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Read the comments. Here's one:
"I am an expert belayer if anybody needs someone to belay for them. Only three people of the 18 I have belayed for ever tumbled more than 1,000 feet."
Umm... Obviously he means his subjects were inexperienced, but the first time I read that it translated in my mind to: "You can trust me, I am an expert belayer. Only three of the 18 people I have helped so far have fallen to their deaths!" - petepetepete, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15The not so great wall of China.
- isemism, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14That might as well be a depends commercial for me.
- deepmenace, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14i reckon i'd be up for most of that except the photo titled:
A little bit steeper here: be sure to use the handy toe holes!
n o f * c k i n g w a y - Humptydank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12That's not speech recognition, it's Ecstasy.
- isemism, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12How long till theres a McDonald's at the top?
- endgames, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Drof is correct, they call them longevity locks.
- warmonger48, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I'll bet they make their political prisoners go through that course....
- isemism, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Oh.
Hell.
No.
Edit: this was stated earlier.
But I'm gonna say it again for posterity.
And I really do believe the statement. - petepetepete, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I would hate to live in that house.
"Honey, it's your turn to go get some milk." - MediaShipper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9They probably built the path
- mmgreenmms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That's a survival rate of 83.3%... repeating of course.
- ModemGhost, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10You know, the phrase, "***** that *****!" doesn't even begin to cover this one.
- kettle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I can't believe no has asked where this is. Where is it?
- axman6, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Holy *****, I thought the walk we did in the blue mountains near Sydney was bad. that's insane!
Yeah i know I'm gonna get dugg down, but man, i was scared just looking at those pics.
Al. - WikiEasy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7What I'm wondering is, how the F* did they get that building up there?
How many lives were lost just to build that thing? - tshrub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Its the Huashan Mountain in Xian, China
- pavelft, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I so want to do this!
- jsp123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"This page sponsored in part by Master Lock..."
- brendanorourke, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9It's amazing how much more lax the liability and safety laws are in other countries, I guess if the planks broke and you fell there you (or your survivors) probably could not sue anyone. In Thailand they let you in the cage to play with tiger cubs that were like 150 lbs and could rip your head off if they got pissed.
- montrey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8HOLY *****!
- digitalbuzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5looks a like a scene for a future James Bond / Bourne movie.
- orientis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Dude I regularly hike out in the Blue Mountains. There is nothing close to this scary.. I'm with deepmenace, I'd be fine for most of that I think, but that one shot with the 'toeholes' caption... ***** that.
- rasputin89, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Now that looks like fun.
- EmmSee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5WHERE DO I SIGN UP?
- seand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4there are lots of trap routes to keep people on their toes. take that dead end for example; not paying attention, sweaty palms, just hoping you can keep moving forward and BAM!!! you now have to get every single person who is behind you to back up so you can figure out the correct route :)
- droflovephd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I would not trust that to hold up a group of Americans. When I was in china I went to a tower to overlook Shanghai. When I got on the elevator and the alarm went off. There was too much weight. It was designed to hold 12 people, but 11 Chinese plus one American is too much.
P.S. I am 5'11" and 190 lbs. - TimTim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Anybody know what the sign says in the 4th pic?
My guess is "Cemetery this way!" - SenorPez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You do realize that he's referring to an indoor climbing facility in Nashville, and is being facetious about the tumbling comment. Right?
http://www.climbnashville.com/ - lamech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Angels Landing is still amazing - lol. Just not as much time is spent hanging on for dear life - but the view is spectacular.
- jambox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3China has loads of BIG stuff, either for tourists or locals.
People think it's just the Great Wall, but there's tons of stuff. I went to Chiang Kai Shek's tomb which is just outside Nanjing - despite him being a Kuomintang leader and hence not really beloved of the Communist government, when he died he got given a whole mountain. Steps run up the side, takes maybe an hour to get to the top and along the way are some very wide steps with tea shops and photo kiosks on. The sense of scale is something I've never experienced before at a man-made tourist site (except perhaps Southend Pier, but that's just horizontal and made of wood, plus it burned down. Again.).
Oh and this springs to mind: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/11/16/flying_aircraft_carrier/
(it's a full-sized model which is part of an amusement park).
People always say Americans do things BIG. Well, the Chinese do things BIIIIIIIIG. Compare dams - Hoover is BIG, Three Gorges is BIIIIIIG. - pred8tr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wow! This kicks a$$. I would definately like to try!
- Clearz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No ***** way would I do that. I climbed a small mountain (1500 ft) last summer with my two cousins who are 15 and 16, I'm 25. I whimpered like a god damn baby the whole way up. I say they lost all respect for me.
Honestly even them photos make my head spin and my stomach churn.
Funny thing, has anyone thought about the staff that work in that place on the top. Most dangerous commute in the world I would say. Talk about not wanting to get out of bed in the morning. - microtopian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3whoaa! two of my friends and i actually went on those planks before when we were studying abroad... they had signs saying no cameras and whatnot but one of my friends and i both had our cameras and then when you get to the other end there's this tree that hangs out from the cliff and there's all these red ribbons attached and one of my friends actually climbed that tree... and then when we were on the planks, these two workers were coming from the other direction and they just walked right behind me to get past me! x_x. man...that mountain in xian was the craziest thing i ever did!
