- dolemite5005, on 10/12/2007, -4/+72I remember being young and watching football with my parents, I actually did feel very uncomfortable when they'd switch to shots of the cheerleaders lifting up their legs displaying their undergarments and what not.
Of course now that I'm much older I thoroughly enjoy it. - JonForTheWin, on 10/12/2007, -16/+61It makes FAT women uncomfortable you can bet your ass.
- UglieJosh, on 10/12/2007, -21/+65Ummmmmmm............. I can't believe I am saying this but....................
I think I might actually agree with Russell Crowe???? - 5N00PY, on 10/12/2007, -13/+51What's he going to do if the cheerleaders keep cheering...throw his phone at them?
- Misogyny, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41It's only uncomfortable if you wear the wrong pants.
- cyrix, on 10/12/2007, -7/+38He'll probably just fight them....
MAKING MOVIES, SINGING SONGS, AND FIGHTING 'ROUND THE WORLD! - CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -14/+43Yeah, I feel weird saying this, but, he's got a pretty good point.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26"skimpily clad"
This can easily be fixed without cutting cheerleading. Duh. - SqueakyWheel, on 10/12/2007, -8/+29@bazuden
Don't you know the word fag makes some uncomfortable! - Niten, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25I agree. Go rent yourself some soft core porn if that's what you're into, but let the sports be about sports. Something about publicly using women's bodies for entertainment just doesn't jive with my morals, and it's not something I would like to like to expose my (hypothetical) children to.
Before anyone concludes that I am a prude, let me clarify something: It's not the fact that the women are scantily clad that bothers me. I would have no problem taking my (again, hypothetical) son to a nude beach or the like. Rather, what bothers me is that these women are, in effect, reduced to sexual entertainment for the male members of the audience. It does make me rather uncomfortable, but more to the point, I would not want my children to come to accept it as perfectly normal that women should be highlighted in such a way, without first understanding the moral and societal implications. - ROFLance, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Yeah, I often feel uncomfortable with a raging erection, surrounded by screaming people that I don't know.
- bazuden, on 10/12/2007, -12/+27It's not rugby, it's league. Stupid Yank.
- BeardedTacoFish, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14This post is useless without pictures. Show us the cheerleaders he's firing! Then we shall decide if this is a sad story or not.
- TheDeadMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11here is a couple.... profiles and all ;-)
http://www.souths.com.au/cheerleaders/ - mcraigw, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14It makes his wife uncomfortable, because she can't trust him.
And where are the pictures? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13What's with the stupid yank comment. That's just uncalled for. I don't think it's unreasonable to not be familiar with a sport you aren't interested in, or have access to. Maybe if you explained the difference he would understand.
(Yank who likes footy, btw) - GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Yet even League is better than what passes for sport in most of the world.
I suspect you are a Football (soccer to our American allies) fan who has bad memories of being forced to play Rugby as a youth. - MattH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6jpop that would be the guys in Aussie Rules Football that wear the Tight shorts
http://afl.com.au/ - garyh84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6How about instead of getting rid of the cheerleaders, we have them play a short game during halftime instead?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -21/+27It makes the wives uncomfortable because 99% of them of fat and lazy.
- jknevitt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8League IS Rugby. That's why it's called Rugby League.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Think that up all by yourself, did ya?
- counterplex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I think it's an interesting point he makes - how far do non-game antics have to go before they start distracting from the game itself? Any game.
- mcraigw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5
So that's what "Scantily clad" is huh? I was expecting thongs and pasties. Okay, I was hoping for thongs and pasties. - ThetaDot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Marcus Aurelius had a dream that was rugby, Proximo.
THIS WAS NOT IT....... THIS WAS NOT IT!!! - coreoption, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Repectable decision in my opinion. I'm indifferent.
- MattH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4When the cheerleaders would come on at Half time at the Balmain Tigers game at Leichhardt Oval it was aways a good time to duck down under the old grandstand for for a couple of beers .
- darthmdh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Russell Crowe is not gay.
He's from New Zealand and therefore prefers sheep. - czeman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I always thought cheerleaders wore a little TOO much. I'm not saying they should be naked, they should just wear a little less. :)
- zanthius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Please America... take Russell Crowe... we don't want him here anymore....
The cheer leaders in a rugby game don't really do much unless someone scored a try or during half time... so there's nothing else to look at except the cheer leaders. I haven't met anyone that has had a problem with them. - TheDeadMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Plus, Souths need all the supporting they can get these days..
This doesn't help at all... they should be trying to appeal to the younger audience, not trying to impress the oldies... oh well - Timmyftw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@jknevett
You know there is a difference between Rugby Union and Rugby League. The games are played quite differently - bazuden, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Anyone going to a Souths home game does. Souths supporters aren't exactly 'easy on the eyes'.
- idigital, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here in Australia cheerleaders aren't the obsessive phenomenon they seem to be in the States.
- QurrUm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Welcome to my (ever-expanding) blocklist! Go out and get a marketing job for some big coporation so that you leave us alone now, and so that we can laugh at your crappy ads later!
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Russell Crowe says his rugby league club's cheerleading squad is being cut because skimpily clad cheerleaders detract from the game and make spectators uncomfortable."
This just in... rugby game attendance at an all time low after Russell Crowe's comments. - mcraigw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2
Oh my mistake, it's "skimpily". That explains it... - indraneel24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2what is he, gay?
- ElevenisEven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2YES!! i just said in the prince halftime show story about how they should ban cheerleaders...i was joking of course, but it is super funny to me, to see this story today...thats freakin hilarious
- DrDankenstein, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8why is this news? do people really care about this?
- macp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The whole cheerleader I think is dumb anyway. You go to sports games to see sports. You want to stare at girls, stay on the interweb or go to a strip club... bleh...
- livestradamus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, nice.. a few of them have.. umm how do say nicely.. tig bitties..?
- benjaminooo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1agreed.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There is nothing worse than a professional team that needs cheerleaders to keep their fans entertained because their main product (the team itself) is not good enough.
- LocalDocal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't get the big deal with people and cheerleaders. I mean, there's a stereotype of cheerleaders being ultra beautiful teen girls who men would kill to have.
Maybe I just went to an abnormal school. Back when I was still in high schools, prep rallies used to be a fun time and the girls were, as expected, pretty (though I wouldn't say beautiful). Then one day, the school started putting these hideous, overweight women in cheerleading uniforms. Maybe it was for political correctness, maybe they actually thought the girls were beautiful, whatever the reason, that was the day I decided that I rather have classes than go to prep rallies.
I'm being serious too. The only reason why I thought rallies were noteworthy at all were the cheerleaders. I sure as hell don't want to go anywhere to see a bunch of people do stupid break-dancing techniques or to see a bunch of football players receive awards. - JonGalt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is russle crow 1.) gay and 2.) A huge prude? Someone close to him please tell him to quick preeching. The guy makes movies where he murders kills and maims ppl not to mention he has a temper like a wolverine, then he goes out and complains about hot chicks. *****!
- jstem1994, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@TheDeadMan
