- datastorageguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+43It's funny because I didn't even realize the high jump was done any different in the past.
- hypnotoad32, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24Yeah, we need to take those other arrogant high jumpers down a notch.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Fosbury was awesome-- one of the most arrogant high jumpers of all time, too-- but still awesome.
- DesignNerd, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20I think it's about time someone invented a new form of running.
- Fracture98, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17The coolest thing about the Fosbury Flop is that the center of gravity of the jumper passes under the bar as the jumper passes over it.
- ByronT, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17Who are the other arrogant high jumpers of all time?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12but to this day Johnson's form is still considered poor...as in-- running how he did has never really worked for anyone else.
- David1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Nice one Bleue...spot the canadian.
- David1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Actually...

Michael Johnston's short stride meant he spent more time on the track and less time in the air. But I am guessing it came naturally and wasn't thought out. - mapkinase, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9You forgot to add "one of the most arrogant high jumpers of all time" with the names starting with letter F.
- Bleue, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8This is not all that uncommon in sports. All the following are changes to very old sports that I have seen in my lifetime.
V style in ski jumping
Clap skates in speed skating
Brushes (rather than brooms) in curling
Butterfly blastoff in backstroke swimming
And that's just off the top of my head. - Bleue, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7wow, on your first try. No eh! or nothing. You win a beer and a can of maple syrup. Remember to consume them separately.
- spearce, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Well there was Stanley Bervalvic who created the Bervalvic Bounce and Reggie McDivers who pioneered the McDivers Dive Roll. Both of those guys were complete asses. Tuki Partveely, who created the Partveely Cart Wheelie, was actually a really nice guy. Very down to earth.
- 0zzy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10White man CAN jump!
- mal1964, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7So how did reinventing wheel help him win?
- Sornos, on 10/20/2007, -0/+4LOL @ NASCAR
- archer104, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4No ***** that! A few years ago I was hangin' out by the laundromat and none other than Tuki Partveely and his posse came walking by. What happened next I will never forget. Partveely slurped the last of his milkshake and threw the empty cup over his shoulder. I started to say, "Hey! You gonna pick that up?," but before I could finish the sentence Partveely jumped clean over my head. I just kinda stood there like an idiot while everyone laughed.
- LexisNexis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4reread the parent comment.
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2LOL @ curling.
Let's not forget the change in NASCAR from stock car racing to racing fake tube-frame cars with stickers instead of headlights. Oh wait, that's not actually an improvement. - tw0bit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2exactly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfAeCluBBF8 owned by donovan
- DephexTwin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Holy *****... that was seriously an incredible piece of writing.
- DephexTwin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Better steering.
- mapkinase, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Monty Python tried it for walking
- Prefection, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Speed walking, eh? Low impact, good cardio. My aunt was into speed walking, and as a teenager I had a hard time keeping up with her when she was in her mid 40s.
- jdavscru, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2For some reason, Fosbury never did well with the ladies after this.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I was just saying the guy was known for being very confident in himself. I didn't say he was the MOST arrogant...because I don't have the authority to make that claim. There have been other high jumpers who were arrogant and other high jumpers who werent as arrogant--he was known for being pretty openly self-confident.
and just because you guys don't follow a sport doesn't mean nobody does... - theprototype, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Dugg down for calling it a great "Sport"
- Fatcheeseguy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Classic! Revolutionary!
- darkzealot89, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2...that isn't running. Its the High Jump...
- SnuKs, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1Sadly some people would argue the Segway as the answer =/
