Red Baron Pizza Squadron Has Been Decommissioned
airshowbuzz.com — On December 3, The Schwan Food Company decommissioned The Red Baron Pizza Squadron after 28 years of amazing air show flying. The Red Barons are truly an American treasure and their abrupt retirement is a devastating loss to our national aviation heritage. We need to do something about it and we need your help to do it.

- Tomcat101, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1Capitalist pigs! I won't eat their pizza.
- no1planedoc, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1Of course that is one choice but I'm afraid that won't hurt them too much. It is obvious they have hurt themselves already by not improving their product and keeping up with the competition.
- airshow4444, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1Save the Red Barons!!!!
- bradV, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1Man, these guys were born to fly and if they get grounded, well it will be really easy to just bypass those Red Boxed Pizzas in the grocery store, thats for sure!
Please don't clip their wings. - krlang20, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1Man, the RB Pizza boys have been through it all. That's a shame.
The rumble of their radials, the snapping of the blades are an airshow enthusiasts aria. I also have them on a copy of Round Sounds Vol. II to get me through the winter. From the trailer on the show line, to the MX trailer with the spare engine, and propeller, they were a first class operation. Touring the country each year visiting many groups of "Special Friends" and performing at so many shows, the airshow family will have to fill a huge gap with the loss of this major attraction. The company I work for hosted them a few times and the boys were cool to hang out with, even with the breakfast pizza they were asking us to try. :)
A few years back I went to the Gathering of Corsairs at Mt. Comfort, IN. My mother left for a while to go get a bite to eat. She bought a couple of slices and saw an empty spot at a table in the back of their display. After she ate she noticed that everybody was wearing a jumpsuit, but didn't catch on that she was sitting with the crew. She thanked them for their company and wandered back to tell me about her lunch. I pointed out who they were when they flew later on.
Thank you Schwan Foods for allowing us to have the Barnstorming experience over and over in so many great places. I would love to see a big corporate sponsor step up and keep this thing going for a long time!
Come on Big Business! Somebody needs a half dozen Stearmans added to the Corporate Flight Department! Keep Them Going! - tmacrock, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1What a shame. I had the opportunity to fly along for a press ride with them once. A great group of pilots! I hope Schwan changes their mind.
- tobby100000, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1please keep the Red Barons or we will all protest
- 20mm, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1I saw this at AirShowBuzz and I thought what has become of tradition in America? 28 years these airplanes have graced the skies, and made the association, the link with Red Baron. Are they going to change that too, dump the Red Baron logo? I hope someone at Schwan wakes up and realizes this is a mistake. Or when I pass through the grocery store next time, Red Baron Pizza won't have any positive associations with me.
- CdnGhost, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1Please, keep them flying.
- jtorthare, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1I will state my sentiments here again. Schwan Corp is making a huge mistake. I will make sure that my $100 plus order every two weeks and the purchase of their items in grocery stores will end today. The Red Baron Squadron deserves much better than to be grounded. What else can be done to help other than signing the petition?
- dreamie39f, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1This is truly a shame!!! Schwan please rethink your decision!!!
- suthsw, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1Get these guys airborn again!
- eagledriver2001, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1I Think its The red barons should keep flying Because you cant"KEEP A GOOD MAN DOWN.don't ground them. keep the joy in the air thanks Rich Wilfongsr{ aka}EAGLEDRIVER2001
- 13Joker, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1Don't cancel the RED BARONS, Keep the tradition alive!!!
- richkolasa, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1I hope that they reconsider their decision, or at least allow a "buy-out" of the aircraft and support equipment so that a new sponsor can be approached with a viable marketing opportunity. Go team, yay team! Good luck!
- RCreech1964, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1Keep the RED BARONS
- Pacer1, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1I have had the opportunity to see this team fly many times over the past 20 years. They are a testiment to the fine tradition of aerial demonstration teams here in the US.
- petelang, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1It's a shame how Schwan's is discontinuing support for the Red Baron Pizza Demo Team. They are amazing to watch and I have seen them numerous times at New England Air Shows.
- AviatorBentley, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1I will never eat another one of their pizzas! Further more, I will pee on the "Schwan man" next time he is in the neighborhood!
- dzirzow, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1Will be a shame not to see them on the airshow circuit this year. Maybe Schwans needs new PR people to invigorate their marketing relationship with the team instead of dropping them!
- cmleyden, on 12/14/2007, -0/+0If they go, no more Red Baron pizza in this house! They are an excellent demonstration team and deserve much better than they are getting!!!
- ebonner56, on 12/31/2007, -0/+0I've really enjoyed watching the Red Baron team fly. If they are dropped, I will feel obligated to make my displeasure known at the checkout line at my supermarket. Keep the Red Baron Pizza Squadron flying! I will be writing Schwan's too.
