- BristolMyLove, on 02/09/2009, -2/+139Way to not give SNL credit for that.
- rikuansem13, on 02/08/2009, -2/+92Nobody made a big deal out of it when Barack Obama said he experimented with drugs...
- Shogi, on 02/09/2009, -9/+97When the ***** are people going to realize that responsible drug use is harmless? And that in marijuana's case it can even have some benefits? We're defending legislation pioneered by a generation of tight asses that barely understood the drug and demonized it.
Legalize marijuana, get these innocent kids out of prison and for once stop with the fire and brimstone tactics based on fear. - inlovingmemory, on 02/08/2009, -5/+77I think Phelps is both damaging and beneficial to the cause.
On the one hand, such an achiever shows that weed does not make you a low life, and shows that users can go on to do amazing things ( greatest olympian of all time, or in Barack Obama's case, president).
But on the other hand, he has said he made a mistake and acknowledges what he has done is wrong, this plays in the hand of the anti marijuana campaigners who will be saying, Phelps is anti marijuana now.
I think Phelps should have said that he was not sorry for doing it, because if we're being honest, why should he be? - viking0895, on 02/08/2009, -50/+120If your kids ask to why they cant smoke weed if Micheal Phelps does it, just tell them they can...after they win 12 gold medals for their country

- RepublicofJosh, on 02/09/2009, -1/+28Do you buy cigarettes under-the-counter in order to by-pass the taxes?
How about alcohol?
Do you see a flaw in your argument yet?
So who's stupid now?
Oh and as far as helping our country: we no longer have to spend billions of dollars on a failing war on drugs.
Also I would gladly buy taxed weed. Drug dealers scare me. - ivanmarsh, on 02/09/2009, -3/+27Yeah... because Phelps never toked up before he won his medals... and everyone who doesn't smoke pot is a raging success in their lives.
Legalize it! - NipGrip, on 02/09/2009, -0/+22Dang.. Do you know how GOOD some of that stuff is.. On weeeeeeed?
EL Fudge® Sandwich Cookies!? Cmon, just one.. - lukedamonkey, on 02/09/2009, -1/+20I'll tell them that they can if they do it in moderation and keep decent grades.
- KillerBears, on 02/09/2009, -1/+18I think it's a matter of being current. If it came out today that Obama was toking in the Oval Office, you'd bet it be major news. Similarly, if it it had come out, instead, that Phelps had smoked weed in high school and then quit, no one would care that much right now.
- aubinhick990, on 02/09/2009, -2/+18I'm glad attention is coming to this. Maybe people will realize that weed's not all that bad now...
- 420buddah, on 02/09/2009, -2/+17If we can just get it reclassified from a schedule I substance to something lower, the tide will turn in a huge way.
How come not many people mention the fact that 7 people currently receive medicinal marijuana from the federal government? We should be outraged that more people can't get access to it. Instead, these people, and the cause that got them medicinal marijuana are all but forgotten.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compassionate_Investi ...
We just need to refocus the argument..if cocaine and meth are both schedule II substances, then why can't marijuana at least be schedule II? Can anyone really claim that marijuana is more harmful than both of those substances?
I think those two points (reclassification and the fact that people already receive marijuana from the federal government) hammered into the mainstream will cause a momentum shift. - captainchris, on 02/09/2009, -0/+13that's actually true and often cited by anti-weed fools. but then again our saliva has over 10,000 chemicals in it.
- churler, on 02/09/2009, -0/+12If the government gets involved and makes strains of REALLY GOOD *****... then nobody would buy under-the-counter.
Marijuana only makes lazy people lazy. I know people who'll go out and run 7 miles after smoking. - daveward, on 02/09/2009, -0/+11That's exactly what I was saying. People have no problems with the leader of our country saying he's smoked pot? But if you're our top swimmer and you do it, you're a bad person. He's in his 20's, hell of a lot more people that age smoke pot than don't.
- scheibs14, on 02/09/2009, -0/+11Devastating. I didn't know Kelloggs made Cheez-Its.
- dimebonics, on 02/09/2009, -3/+14Visine was made for weed smokers: "Hey you got that visine, I don't want people to know I've been swimming." M. Hedburg
- concernedcit, on 02/09/2009, -0/+11Also, he kept all his sponsors when he got a DUI which is potentially far more damaging to himself and society
- Alex64, on 02/09/2009, -0/+11Do you have any facts to back up these claims?
- blindhammer, on 02/09/2009, -2/+12[insert generic "tax it" message]
- Cr00kie, on 02/09/2009, -1/+11Did you guys hear? There is a new strain of marijuana called MP, it will make you feel like you won 8 gold medals and everyone around you talk in Chinese.
- dartmanx, on 02/09/2009, -0/+10If you want a law passed for your cause, do what everyone else has to: save your money and buy a few Senators.
- DamnMan, on 02/09/2009, -0/+10Didn't get past the first paragraph before it turned into propaganda *****. Firstly, "Whitehouse study" means forgone devilweed conclusion. Secondly, it seemed that the real meat of the issue was that depressed teens smoke pot, Not smoking pot causes depressed teens.
Same thing they say about the Schizo crap. They interview a bunch of Schizos who smoke weed and then blame pot. they don't collect random samplings to find higher instances in one group or another. (or i haven't seen the research)
They are rehashing the same old tired ***** "facts" into a new scary sounding package. Like the "super strength" weed we have today while completely ignoring the ceiling effect of THC, past a certain saturation point excess THC just passes though the system.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LD50_of_THC#Toxicity - gobbleplex, on 02/09/2009, -0/+9Because this is a big problem with tobacco and alchohol.
- mikeabundo, on 02/09/2009, -0/+9"The reason coke and weed are illegal in America is because the best coke and weed ain't made in America." -- Chris Rock.
- likuidM5, on 02/09/2009, -0/+9Pot being classified as more dangerous than cocaine or meth is just a ***** joke
- dizmoz, on 02/09/2009, -0/+9Alex64, I don't believe he/she does...
Why don't people brew their own beer?(some do, but you get my point hopefully) ohhh its easier to just go to the store and pick what you like... marijuana smokers/users might work in the same fashion... buying it from stores.
Not to mention Amsterdam... and how it works out well for them.
(Random sentences thrown together... haha) - RepublicofJosh, on 02/09/2009, -0/+9Except for SNL last night? not even 24 hours ago?
- ATXChappy, on 02/09/2009, -0/+9I guess someone held a gun to your head and made you click that link huh.
- inactive, on 02/09/2009, -1/+9Everyone that criticizes Phelps for smoking is a complete and utter hypocrite, because with over half of Americans admitting to "trying pot", to even greater number taking prescription drugs, I seriously doubt one of Phelps criticizers has the right to case the first stone.
- Frozo, on 02/09/2009, -0/+8There's always someone who knows, with a big nose who knows...
Way to plagiarize, viking0895 - ThantiK, on 02/09/2009, -1/+9Unfortunately this doesn't solve the problem that it created. The people in jail for marijuana use are now institutionalized. Their behavior has undoubtedly changed. Remember that they are in there with murderers, child rapists, and other low-lives. When they get out your still releasing institutionalized members into society. You will probably see a crime rate increase and then we'll have this crap all over again about how it's mary-gee-wannah's fault.
Legalize it, but instead of releasing these people - shorten their sentence, and slowly reintegrate them into society. Fact-of-the-matter is, according to our legal system - If you do it while it's illegal, it's still illegal and you have to serve the time for it. If it becomes legal tomorrow you still did it while illegal. There are people in prison in similar circumstances.
I'm all for the legalization for marijuana, however just releasing them all would set us on top of a very slippery slope. And as for my life motto: It's only illegal if you get caught. - bullhead2007, on 02/09/2009, -0/+8seriously. there are tons of articles every day that I don't want to read. And guess what I do? I DONT ***** READ THEM.
- inactive, on 02/09/2009, -2/+10(1) Michael Phelps: the worlds fastest pot head
(2) I think Marijuana should be legalized. - inactive, on 02/09/2009, -0/+7I only drink bootlegged moonshine myself. I do believe this gentlemen has a point.
- BoneheadFarker, on 02/09/2009, -1/+8It doesn't cause depression, nor does it cause schizophrenia. Those who are already depressed may self-medicate with pot, and there have been some studies that show pot can cause an episode in teenagers who are already pre-disposed to schizophrenia, but pot does not actually cause these diseases. Stop spreading FUD...
- ATXChappy, on 02/09/2009, -0/+7I love how you really think he meant it. It's like all the kids in rehab now for Marijuana "Addiction". It's go to rehab or go to jail and have no future because of a drug conviction. In Phelps case it's apologize or lose your career. Which would you choose?
- gobbleplex, on 02/09/2009, -0/+7And how many of those people brew their own beer to "bypass the taxes?" And don't they pay taxes on the raw ingredients anyway even if they were for some odd reason trying to be sneaky tax evaders?
- Garofoli, on 02/09/2009, -2/+9What if light was shed upon the truth surrounding Marijuana because of this? I would finally put Phelps douchiness aside.
- sonammiller, on 02/09/2009, -0/+7You do realize that a lot of people are on the internet, right? Pretty much everyone's caught on to your little secret ;) Even my grandma surfs.
Saying "outside the internet" is like saying "Outside the fastest growing means of communication and collaboration our world has ever seen." - tobster85, on 02/09/2009, -0/+7Is it bad I read that as 'salvia', and thought, "Well, now it all makes sense...." ?
- slickfranky, on 02/09/2009, -0/+6I don't eat a single thing on that list. Can I still be in on the boycott?
- viking0895, on 02/09/2009, -1/+7"Marijuana contains over 1000 chemicals" what in the hell type of weed is that!!!?
- mrsteveman1, on 02/09/2009, -0/+6There is as much reason (perhaps more) to suggest that anti-depressants cause depression if this is the standard, that we find a bunch of depressed people smoking pot. There's no connection.
- xGeneric, on 02/09/2009, -0/+6If every pot head united and walked on the capital, there wouldn't be enough police or military force to arrest them.
- Moterreal, on 02/09/2009, -0/+6Just to point out and add to your comment, I watched a video about one of the men receiving cannabis from the government, Irvin Rosenfeld with his rare bone disorder which if I remember correctly was painful spurs growing from his bones, used cannabis since any other prescription drug to kill the pain would be in such a high dose it would border dependency and/or organ damage. Wonderful how this evil terrible illegal drug can help so much.
- MaverickAlex, on 02/09/2009, -1/+7He won't end up in jail for buying more? Pretty big thing to miss.
And who in the hell giggles like a third grader when their stoned?
Anyone who does, probably would do the same sober. -
