1. I agree that Neil is crap, but the hit was legal or at least borderline. However it is stupid goons like this going after stars that prompted the whole Moore/Bertuzzi thing. It was a ***** crap move by Neil and Ruff's response was perfect.

If someone's being a jackass and hitting your star players they need to be put back in place. In this way it's different than other contact sports because anyone can hit anyone else. Not all fights end up in bench-clearing brawls but usually it's players standing up for their teammates. It's not JUST for show or to sell tickets -- it's been in hockey for many generations and hopefully it will be. However, the current commissioner and others have been trying to completely remove it. Personally, I don't think it's a gimmick at all. It keeps the checks and balances that keep your star players able to do their thing and have some space and makes sure the game is played more cleanly.

- bad_fla$h, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I live in Buffalo, and that was perhaps the most exciting and well-rounded game since the Sabres/Sens playoff opener last year. My dorms veritably erupted with cheers after the shootout.
Too bad Marty Biron got handled, but Miller came in and did an amazing job against huge odds. props all around.

It's just part of the game, it helps establish and control pace, as well as building moral. I'm a big fan of hockey, and the fights are (usually) mildly amusing, except when it's just a team with misguided frustration. But for the sport, it puts asses in the seats, and helps draw in casual fans. Plus, when you have a worthless goon like Neil taking pop-shots at a superstar, he deserves to be smacked around a bit.

Every player in the league knew if they hit Gilmore with a dirty hit they would find Clarks fist embedded into their skulls. If you think steve moore was a future star......you are sadly mistaken. He was a 3rd line filler at good times. To be honest (not that im a Bertuzzi fan...hes trash) Bertuzzi for the canucks was 10 times the player than moore.
