- slyzxx, on 04/15/2009, -1/+26leave it to white people to run in a desert.
- s4g4n, on 04/15/2009, -0/+19Its funny that all these sites are now imitating boston big picture.
- regularsteven, on 04/15/2009, -0/+15its a good thing, though. i was just thinking it is all similar
- DavidTurnbull, on 04/15/2009, -0/+14Why not?
- camelseye, on 04/14/2009, -1/+14It's no stroll on the beach!
- AlanFang, on 04/15/2009, -0/+12Props for the single page.
- amabaie, on 04/14/2009, -0/+10This would be so cool. I would love to do it, not as a race, but just to do the trip. Lot's of sunscreen needed for those legs, though.
- nepidae, on 04/15/2009, -0/+7I wonder how many competitors got fooled by the RC Cola mirage.
- soil, on 04/14/2009, -0/+7"...If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!"
-Kipling, "IF" (1895)
If you can run a marathon in the heat through sand...
then you'll be a Man, my son!
-Soil, "Wow" (2009) - chriscalifornia, on 04/14/2009, -0/+6Too much sand IMO
- moofree, on 04/15/2009, -0/+6They didn't even have to walk without rhythm to avoid sandworms.
- somberlaine, on 04/14/2009, -0/+6the dunes are mind blowing
- inactive, on 04/14/2009, -0/+5Almost as grueling as watching "Ishtar."
- sanguinekane, on 04/15/2009, -0/+5Why do anything? Why not just sit on your ass all day and watch soap-operas while you shove artificially colored and flavored food down your ever fattening gullet?
Because some people actually want more out of life than sitting in an cubicle or traffic all day. - adt41287, on 04/15/2009, -0/+5such a negative tone in your comment. it's very pleasant to see this change.
- capshew, on 04/15/2009, -1/+5I don't think that this site understands what a picture caption is supposed to be. Tell me something about the ***** picture, not the same ***** every time!
- YoungBeur, on 04/15/2009, -0/+4good FOR You!!
- Hanykins, on 04/15/2009, -1/+4I wish he would stop telling us the 1st stage was cancelled and the route modified due to rain.
- sassafras1232, on 04/15/2009, -0/+3I heard that the race started a day late because of the rain, and the route was modified...
- scarth, on 04/15/2009, -0/+3wait up guys, i have a stone in my shoe!
- Babnert, on 04/15/2009, -0/+3"we have a game in our country called survivor where we try to survive for 30 days in a place where people already live." - daniel tosh
- waluum, on 04/15/2009, -0/+3Yes, but I'm pleased to see it being done right across the board. I commend these sites for recognizing an effective gallery layout, and I will always remember that Boston.com did it first (and, arguably, still the best).
- theavenger2, on 04/15/2009, -0/+3812 competitors are due to take part in the race.
- daxter241, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2great pictures, almost mistook it as the boston.com's galleries
- harazek, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2Mirror if it's slow for you too: http://rorr.im/digg.com/other_sports/marathon_of_t ...
- sanguinekane, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2This is a collection of images that would have been sent out by AP or Reuters for various news outlets to pick and choose from, that's why they all have very similar captions. If you were reading an average article on the race, it would only have one or two of these pics, and they need to provide context for each.
Seriously, this same question gets asked every time one of these photojournalism blogs is posted, you think you people would catch on by now. - Shmebber, on 04/15/2009, -1/+3Seriously! It got torturous after the first few images...
- drakelarson, on 04/15/2009, -1/+3the captions on all the pictures are almost exactly the same. lame.
- AZExile, on 04/16/2009, -0/+2I once ran from STV to Sepulcher. Does that count?
- TrentDeux, on 04/15/2009, -1/+3Or "The English Patient"?
- DonKenito, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2this sounds like a pretty bad ass race; count me in!
- inactive, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2***** that! mehffort!
- gizm0duck, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2The top competitors in the event are Moroccan...
- Samurai77, on 04/16/2009, -0/+2And what shall you tell your grandchildren....
Once upon a time I sat in front of the computer!
The end.
Nothing remains except memories, in memories you can live on!
That's my motto at least. - edenseager, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2"*****" outlook on life.
Have fun spending the rest of your days sat in front of your computer while it slowly eats your brain. - happyhamburgers, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2"No you fool, we're following orders. We were told to comb the desert so we're combing it."
- makkaveli19, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2i like this new sites trying to be boston.com. the more the better.

- tjex, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2Why not name this by the official name of the Marathon?
Marathon des Sables
There, fixed. - jfreeman, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1They can't run in straight lines?
- wonnk13, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1wow those guys are tough. this puts running Boston on Monday back into perspective.
- jaquestrap, on 04/16/2009, -0/+1***** they're probably Kenyan.
- markwooten, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1Wow! Add this to my list of things to do in my lifetime.
- CanadaMan87, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1That's quite a marathon; congratulations.
- ObamaYouth, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1Why?
- Hraes, on 04/15/2009, -1/+2Seriously. Also, if you're going to copy-paste the same description fifteen times, at least check the grammar.
- VikingTroll, on 04/15/2009, -0/+0real men. strong character
- willsani, on 04/15/2009, -2/+2Digg yours for the Family Guy correlation.
- eloquine, on 04/16/2009, -0/+0http://digg.com/other_sports/Need_to_find_500_peop ...
- BeesKnees21, on 04/16/2009, -0/+0The circumference of the earth is approximately 25000 miles... so 4 times the circumference of the earth isn't bad at all!
