- deenybird, on 10/11/2007, -1/+125at least they're smart enough to know when to stop
- preppeller, on 10/11/2007, -3/+110I wonder what video transcoder they used for that video
- Hale, on 10/11/2007, -4/+111BOOM! Headshot!
- zanderw00t, on 10/11/2007, -0/+82Dugg for the cartoonish whistle made during the ricochet.
- neggbird, on 10/11/2007, -3/+56two or three inches down and it would have went back up the barrel.
- Ifligus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+35Good thing friendly-fire mode was turned off.
- Heyseuss, on 10/11/2007, -0/+31I don't think it was a richochet, I think it was a very clever and patient enemy sniper who just waited to fire at the exact moment he fired.
- DeathfireD, on 10/11/2007, -2/+33Thats the sound of a gummy bear screaming for help.
- oslointhesummer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+30I would file this under "luckiest" shot ever, since this could've easily turned out much worse, given the circumstances.
- xerus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+28Thanks but my headphones are working fine.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17iron. the target that hits back.
- ColdCut, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17Target was at 121metres (400feet)
Bullet velocity was around 860ms (2821feet per second)
Velocity of the projectile when it hit the guy in the head was about 69ms (225feet per second or 247kilometers per hour or 153miles per hour.)
It hit the guy with a velocity slower than a paintball, but god, he was still very lucky. - da_bradler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15God dammit I'm an idiot. But ya I don't understand how the bullet came back, what did he shoot? how does a ricochet go straight backwards like that? and why would it bounce off the ground like that.
- COLDshiver, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14probably more concerned with the damage to his friend.
- ElectricBrain, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Actually the chance he would get hit again would be exactly the same as the initial shot and every other shot he makes.
- palehorse864, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14This happened at a local gun club, though with pistol caliber rounds (45 caliber I believe). Someone fired a round in a competition shoot and the bullet bounced off of a part of the metal wall and came right back and hit him in the face. He got a minor gash on his cheek and some blood, but nothing that required stitches or scarred. Fortunately, by the time a round bounces back, it has dissipated most of its energy on the metal it hit. It's still a very good idea to wear your safety glasses on range at all times though.
- bashar129, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13People filming other people should never, EVER, talk while filming. If they absolutely need to talk, they can at least whisper.
- tektalk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11What I still don't get is why the cameraman refuses to show the wound the ricochet had inflicted.
- kcpwnsgman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10well, it sounded like they were just going to stop using iron...
- pifko1987, on 10/11/2007, -5/+13BOOM, Accidental headshot!!!
- PinkoComrade, on 10/11/2007, -7/+13pffft....It was Dick quail hunting again
- dime, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I had a similar experience.
We decided to do a little shooting for the day portion of my bachelor party. All was well until we were shooting a sks replica at this swinging iron bull target. A fragment came back and tore a nice gash in my cheek. Not to be discouraged, we pushed the flap back, taped it up, ended early and went on to the rest of the festivities.
It probably could have used a couple stitches, but scars build character. A couple inches to the left and it would have smashed a tooth or ripped a lip apart - so I actually felt pretty lucky.
Needless to say, my wife didn't find it as funny as I did. - spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6From what they were saying during the aftermath it sounds like they were shooting it at a sheet of iron, bullet must have hit it at a slight angle and bounced right back at him
- KMye, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Don't ever walk into a casino, MonkeyNews. They will break you.
- fubes2000, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6if looks like it bounced a couple feet in front of him and the spin shot it into the earmuff.
luckiest/unluckiest guy I've seen all week - spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5If the bullet was going fast enough to go around the planet, with enough force to go straight through anything in it's path, you can be damn sure it wouldn't be stopped by an earmuff.
- Kiloboba, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4That was really amazing. The whistle sound is definitely the icing on the cake.
- adma84, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4are you serious?
- spiralspirit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The velocity was 69m/s, but the mass was much higher than any paintball. It's still a serious ouchie.
- cawpin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I want to know WHAT KIND of iron they were shooting at. I've personally shot a non-armor-piercing round of .50 BMG through an iron engine head. I don't know what they had to shoot at to get it to come back like that.
- zelowlifeaiss, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3how old are you?
- bwpayne, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3ooo... I now i wanna see a high-speed camera capturing a .50 hitting a piece of steel and ricocheting off.
- HerbSolo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3wouldn't that have been one shot earlier?
- t0ny, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I've wasted so many pellets at my friend's house just making that noise. :)
- jasdf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If the bullet was going fast enough to circle the earth in that amount of time it would have gone into orbit.
- oMeSSiaHo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2He's probably right. .50 bullets are quite large (they were used on planes in WWII) and travel quite fast. Even after being retarded by the impact of the target and the ground a full bullet would be really heavy and probably do more then just knock his earmuffs off.
- max420, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You're asian aren't you... and I am guessing you aren't Chinese, and that people call you chinese all the time. hahaha
- jakobahman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2As if THAT is going to happen again... What are the odds?
- hammerpants, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2No. He's magic.
- OP100, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Metal jacket of the bullet probably separated from the lead core. Splash back, It happens all the time on steel plate contests. The distance for those contests is a minimum 25ft. for handgun rounds. This guy was shooting a 50BMG from pretty close range. He is so f'n lucky.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"This guy is quite lucky this round only connected with his earmuff."
- Youtube Description - palehorse864, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If you're curious how fast the bullet returned comparative to how it was shot, listen for the shot and the metallic ping from the target. Then count the time it takes from the metallic ping to the bullet hitting his earmuffs. That should give you an idea of how much energy the bullet lost after hitting the target.
- MadOgre, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1No, it wont. In the Army I've had plenty of .50's fired very near me, even right over my head. I'm still alive and well. I don't know where this BS myth came from, but it's got to stop. Just like Teflon spray on bullets making them armor peircing and all that crap. It's not true.
- Ageroth, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3???
- MadOgre, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Not a fragment, but the whole bullet.
- Van3ck, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It seems he was trying to put a .50 cal round through a plate of iron... as has been shown in many .50 caliber rifle demo videos.
At the end you can hear them say "that's it, no more iron".
My guess is it was too thick or something. - MadOgre, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2The bullet's initial weight was 750 grains. The Caldwell electronic earmuffs were destroyed.
- LeeSoong, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1The moral of this little video:
Always Wear Ear Protection ! - max420, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1haha, no kidding.
- MadOgre, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Willy is not a Redneck. Saying anyone who shoots a gun is a redneck is about as dumbass as saying anyone asian is Chinese.
