Pull up
Force Reaction = Force Gravity at finger; this is an internal force. However the reaction causes a torque at the joint, causing "strain" of the joint. Because the net force is zero at some point right above his hand, this area is in equilibrium (net force = 0, it does not move), it becomes irrelevant to our free body diagram.
Since the man moves up, his arm/chest has to physically generate a upward force. This is the driving force of the pull up. It is rather easy to generate an upward force through your chest and arm. The difficulty of doing is resisting the torque in your joint (ie why most people can't hold their own weight with one finger)
tl;dr version: you are simpling hanging with a finger, doing work with arm/chest.
Push up
Force Reaction at Feet + Force Reaction Finger = Force Gravity; this is also internal. However in this situation the upward force has to be generated by the finger, arm, and chest [there is much less room for chest movement] so the force generated by the finger and arm has to be much greater than the same force in the pull up. Additionally, since the finger is not in equilibrium, it is part of our free body diagram.
It is much harder to generate force with finger/arm, not so much chest. Thus the push up is much harder. There is also the balance factor; lets not even mention that.
tl;dr version: your finger does *****, your chest does less ***** + impossible balance [I can't personally balance with one hand]
