Because both of his parachutes failed. - lotuseater, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Moral of the story is to land in thick bushes.
- thursvai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I'm pretty sure he only broke his ankle and had a punctured lung from what I read in an article earlier. That just makes it more amazing.
- BESTenemy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16That's it! First thing tomorrow morning, I'm getting rid of my driver side airbag and replacing the entire steering wheel with a blackberry bush!

- SoundJudgment, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15BURIED as a Dupe story. Here is the one which was on Digg earlier. It reports the incident in greater detail:

One of the reasons he fell was actually how he fell, his body crashed the exact way you saw it. His body absorbed the whole fall because his body absorbed it equally. If he had fallen a slight bit off on his heads of knees, the pure force would have killed him. This is a great story, he is sooooo lucky to be alive!
- djepik, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Wow that's an amazing video. There was one guy who had the same thing happen to him but he landed on a pile of fire ants. He was unconscious but the fire ants biting at him stimulated his body and actually kept him alive.
- oracleofmist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7At first I was hoping he'd go for the water, but then I remembered water isn't safe when falling at max velocity. Lucky guy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Looked like the broken chute slowed him down a lot.
- Porsche944, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wow that's all I can say that was gripping.

Because a conscious person is likely to respond to it, regardless of how dumb it sounds after the fact. - nunbot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4first time i've seen it. I liked your link better though.
thanks - crashflow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6if you're the kind of person that succeed after a couple of tries, maybe skydiving just isn't for you.
I'm pretty sure if I fell like that, I probably soil myself and that would fill up my jumpsuit thereby creating sort of an airbag. and protect me from the impact. - lostboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Water, from any height higher than around 80 feet is pretty much like concrete, however appealing it seems, aim for the trees and bushes. This isn't the first time I've heard of sky divers having a lucky escapes due to their landings being softened like that, I remember one instance where a tree broke someone's fall and they survived as a result; and no, I have no link, so as far as smart alecs are concerned it didn't happen.
- coldfusion055, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yeah, this was on the front page early today AND two months ago.
- Kerr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2saw it on the Today Show here in the US, and he said as soon as he recovers he'll be back to jumping...I guess almost dying didn't scare him enough.
