  • mikeliketrike, on 06/30/2009, -1/+35There's a handful of guys that really pushed street skating from the late 70's to the mid 80's and Rodney Mullen is definitely one of those guys. The kind of stuff he was doing in that video shows the creativity and skill that they had back then when no one else had done anything like it before. Mullen's the man.

Hawk and others gained fame for riding ramps, but Rodney stuck true to his roots for decades now.... Darkslide FTW!!!

He had this 10 minute ride where he was doing things that to this day you dont see many do at all. Tony Hawk may be the face of the skateboarding, but Rodney Mullen is a true pioneer. I give Tony credit for the work that he has done for the sport dont get me wrong, but what Rodney can do on a board not many at all can do.

He was insane in his freestyle days, but when he started street skating everyone else instantly moved to 2nd place and below. Dude is blessed with otherworldly balance and coordinator.

  • inigomntoya, on 07/01/2009, -0/+3It was kind of like the difference between a hockey player and a figure skater. Where you had these rough hockey players bulldozing the ***** out of each other and then some fruit doing circles and pirouettes around everyone.
    But then there were some who caught on to some of his stuff (kickflips and impossibles) and integrated it into the stuff they were doing.
