- benjaminradler, on 10/11/2007, -18/+6Wow, props to those guys. I BMX out here in socal all the time, but that's just insane.
- macaddct1984, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15While I don't ride quite like these guys, I absolutely love riding my bike through the busy streets of Manhattan. Dodging traffic (and beating cars to destinations) is such a rush and extremely fun. If you like cycling and live near NYC, I would definitely recommend it.
- pbuschma, on 10/11/2007, -2/+35@macaddct
.... or alternatively you don't do what these guys do and live a long life. - K4P741NxKRUNCH, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18@macaddct
That should be "If you like cycling, live near N.Y, and you've recently upped your life insurace.." - xXRobbyXx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18Holy ***** at 4:00!!!
- xxTazxx, on 10/11/2007, -6/+19@pbuschma
A long and boring life...where you slowly drudge towards your office everyday in a car waiting for the traffic to crawl forwards, hoping you don't get a heart attack. - schrags, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9"Holy ***** at 4:00!!!"
No... Holy ***** at 4:45 - heysuburbia, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3"After a disastrous professional decision, his life in the fast lane is over. He loses his nerve and joins a speed delivery firm which relies on bicycles to avoid traffic jams of San Francisco, is attracted to a fellow bicycler, Terri, and befriends Hector, a budding entrepreneur. Can Jack regain his nerve and his self-respect, and rebuild his life on a more sound basis?"

i dont even listen to rock like that but i know that song is from Guns & Roses - TheGameAddict, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1Yeah, you're right. It's track 1 from their debut album 'Appetite for Destruction'.

- flamingmb, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19this has been on here so many times. Here is a link to the guys website who films all these: http://www.digave.com/videos/ his name is lucas brunelle.
- durru7, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Yea, it's a repost, but it's still awesome. I'v always seen them doing crazy stuff when ever I go to the city, nice to get a first-person view of it.
- Sippi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Yeah old but awesome,
My sister does this crap in London which I think is crazy.
This is my favorite clips from these nuts. They go around racing to check points across the city, and at each checkpoint they must kill a beer. 3/4 through he ends up clipping a car mirror with his elbow and a car chase ensues. Drinking and biking is never a good combination.
*warning large file*
http://www.digave.com/videos/b-more.mpg - Radiohead84, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2WoW Sippi...thats a crazy video. Those guys are hardcore but that is a pretty retarded idea. I like the idea of racing to a a bar but downing a few 40s is just asking for trouble. Did that car follow him all the way to the park? and then he didnt get out of the car and let him ride off? Strange. I WOULD BE PISSED.
- daeyeth, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1with better music I might add
- MCMookie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I can't remember which video specifically, but one of his videos has a clip of a biker getting hit by a car.
The biker proceeds to get up, apologize for being hit, and encourages the driver to keep on driving.
Truly awesome.
- Regulator980, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Wow, those were some insane maneuvers squeezing through traffic, going against traffic, and cutting off traffic. Also dugg for Guns N' Roses soundtrack.
- 43percentburnt, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0these guys got nothin on Cru Jones
- skiCO, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4I logged in just to digg this!
There was 2 years of my life where all I wanted to do was be a bike messenger but it is a tough job to get into.
Awesome video! thanks!- Radiohead84, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I always wondered how hard it was to get a job doing it. My friend goes to college in philly and he seemed to get the job pretty easily..but he only does it part time. Basically whenever he wants to work he just shows up and they give him a package.
I would love to move to a city and do this but I assume they require you to know the streets pretty well....even if the city is in a grid...
I lived in Tokyo and while the guys there seemed in less of a rush those streets are so criss crossed on weird angles, hills like crazy, weird back streets, and ZERO or CLOSE TO zero names for roads. There is no 104 New York Ave...

- dontbejack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8That's a fabulous video.
- gabe8806, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1biggest props to you guys ........crazy ass people lol ...i wonder how much they get paid?
- Radiohead84, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I think its like 200-400 a week. Deff no a good wage.
- bigfkncee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i used to do it when i was younger.......money wasn't all that good but the hours are great and you're free to explore manhattan all day and talk to girls...ah the memories
ps: i do remember some guys i knew that could make 600-800 a week doing it,but those guys REALLY HUSTLED
- Sippi, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1old news, but still awesome to watch
- Radiohead84, on 10/11/2007, -17/+3Ok seriously..is this the 3rd, 4th, or 5th time this has been posted....
honestly.....
Flying a helicopter through a river canyon so much cooler
http://digg.com/videos/sports/Low_flying_helicopter_in_Tahiti#c6868778- royall64, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Uselessly bashing the story, plugging your own article, the list goes on.
- Errik, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Yeah these guys aren't bad. Oddly enough they werent riding fixed gears, which is what the true bike messangers ride in NYC also in SF.
It is a boost to ride down with traffic, they wont hit you though if you ride with the cars in the middle, because they just treat you like another car. Its when you try to ride on the side or bike lanes that most accidents happen (getting pinched, side swiped, or doored)- jlewicki, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1doored. I can only relate to this when i watch Hollywood car chase movies movies, where an ignorant soccer mom opens a door that gets ripped off by one of the speeding cars. Getting doored while riding a bike must suck.
about halfway through it looks like one of the bikers is holding and being pulled along by a car - Errik, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2yeah being doored sucks, I was cruising down 2nd Ave (nyc) on my bike going fullspeed on my fixxie (ratio 49/16 so you can get a est. on speed) when a driver pulled right infront of me, stopped, and then threw the door open.
I managed to jump off the bike to teh side and avoid the door to the face, my bike however slammed into his door. Luckily I have NJS approved parts that can handle such a beating! I rode back to my place in brooklyn after that!
- jlewicki, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1doored. I can only relate to this when i watch Hollywood car chase movies movies, where an ignorant soccer mom opens a door that gets ripped off by one of the speeding cars. Getting doored while riding a bike must suck.
- floppyparty, on 10/11/2007, -4/+38***** these guys. they give cyclists a bad name. People are so impressed with them dodging cars....if you watch the traffic, it's more like the cars are dodging them by hitting the brakes. a couple of these guys die, and then the legislation starts being written to restrict what I can do on my bike in traffic because someone else doesn't know wtf they are doing.
- Errik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Bikers get hit and run over all the time, a least a couple a month in NYC and most times its bikers that are IN BIKE LANES that get taken out by idiots who don't respect the rules of the road. So when its not safe to ride in a bike lane, where do you ride?
also, in the 80s (or maybe 90s) they tried to get a bike ban in mid-town during buisness hours (think Koch was mayor) but that worked about as well as prohibition. - n99nyrwg, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2"...taken out by idiots who don't respect the rules of the road..."
-errik
You do realize that you are one of these idiots that doesn't respect the rules of the road if you ride like the guys in the video, right?
I don't see why people think what these guys do is cool. It's no cooler than the idiots on motorcycles that do tricks in highway traffic putting people around them at an unnecessary risk. - mt066, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yeah car drivers get totally floored about cyclists in traffic. Most of it is overreaction...probably lots of them haven't been on a bike in 20 years and just don't know what they're talking about. But then something like this comes along and it's hard for me to justify something I enjoy doing because people ride around like a bunch of assholes.
- gurka1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3A friend of mine who was a courier for 2 yeas in NYC went to the doctor and had a physical done. The doctor told him he had the lungs of a heavy lifetime smoker. He didn't smoke. Not only will riding in cities like this kill you from a collision, but you stand a good chance of shortening your life from all the car exhaust and other pollutants you take in. If you want to enjoy riding with a thrill, take up serious mountain biking, it's safer, more challenging, and won't kill you from the clean air you breathe.
- dext3r, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0meh. I *really* love riding through traffic. I get a crazy rush for some reason.
- WebCester, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1But you can't earn a living going mountain biking unless you manage to go pro. Bike messenger is an actual job that pays the rent.
- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4good point. speaking of smoking, it looked like he was smoking his two-piece crack-pipe at the beginning. anyone else think so?
- sonnyF, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Old clip, but dugg just because they are a heck of a lot better than those Critical Mass whiners.
- eean, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1They should put paramedics on bikes. They would get there way before the ambulance in that sort of traffic.
- umdigger, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Well usually cars with flashing lights and sirens tend to make other cars get out of the way for them. So I doubt it would be much if any faster.
And you can't very well dub a guy with 2 broken legs or fractured skull. - fafaforza, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Very often traffic is so bad that cars have nowhere to move to make room for emergency vehicles. So it isn't uncommon to see an ambulance or a fire truck stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, flashing lights and all.
But yea, paramedics provide first line of care until someone is taken to a doc, and it would be quite a feat to get some of the patients to ride on the handlebars back to the hospital.
- umdigger, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Well usually cars with flashing lights and sirens tend to make other cars get out of the way for them. So I doubt it would be much if any faster.
- TocsinFilms, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Pretty awesome how this has already been on the front page, and if you try to submit the link it ***** says that it might be a duplicate and this exact same video is the first one on the list.
- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i ***** hate that. something has to be done. digg summer of code? i'll meet you in san fran.
- BrokenWind, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0what is "scitching" ?
- TocsinFilms, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Check out Skitchin, a Sega Genesis game. Then you'll know!
- fizzyalex, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's when they grab onto a car and hold on (while the car moves)
- kitaljevich, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4WTF! He totally just skitched a car, man bike messengers are baddd asss!
- j4son, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Dugg for not making the title in all caps.
- chesbomb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3i love dodging crack heads riding bikes.
- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1was he smoking crack at the beginning?
- Laqrhead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5WHERE IS THE VIDEO GAME!!!
- Pyloff, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Another reason not to live in NYC. If they fly through pedestrians like that all the time I would carry something to shove in their spokes as they rode past.
- gedden, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0you read my mind. I would'nt give any space the same way they take theirs. And all of my family are road racers... in kansas... The wheat trucks will still take you out!
- travvv, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1this is sooo old
- ITAvenger, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'm all for bike messengers and use them at work, but when splitting pedestrians while running lights like that you put innocent people at risk.
Not cool. It's just not.
Go drink your Mountain Dew and dress like a freak all the while saying you live the extreme life, but please don't put the average person in harms way. - showtime1016, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I live in NYC and commute to Manhattan most days and its idiots like these who casue accidnets. I have seen a guy on a bike get hit for no reason except his stupidity. And then the car gets blamed most of the time. You want a thrill go climb Mt. Everest.
- derder89, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Better sounding video of the same thing. The music makes it better I think.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nR2ygFn-yR8- partriv, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2this was the better video, with Broken Social Scene for the background music :)
- onehitwonder, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Skitchin'
Bumper Skiing, Hitch on the bumper and ski. Best on ice or snow.
Minnesota Term? - pascalosti, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Yeah great video, i enjoyed it.
If i was on the other end as a pedestrian or a driver I`d be yelling "WATCH WHERE THE ...." - sebastianje, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2if you like this video do check out the one where they look at the best of the best the king of bike messengers in
New york.
