http://www.thehumorarchives.com/joke/Gone_Fishing - Dayz, on 10/12/2007, -20/+15The ysent electric current for the fish to come out.
- dustedbunny, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Actually Sally, he's right on the ball. These fish apparently DO react like this because of the electric current from an outboard motor on the boat.
- Filter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Electric current or sound of the boat motor?
On the Illinois river there is an infestation of Asian Carp and they react the same way but it's to the sound of the motor. I'm not sure if that is the fish that they saw in the river but I would assume their reacting to the same thing. - TortfeasorG, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22i'm pretty sure it's that god-aweful music that's driving the fish crazy
- duster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8There's a first for everything. Someone saying that Joe Satriani is "god-aweful [sic]."

Anyone? Bert and Ernie? Maybe? No? Ok. - loveandrockets, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2The body shapes, small mouths and jumping behavior tell me that these are Threadfin Shad. They concentrate in large schools offshore during the day and close in at night when fewer predators are active. This school looks like it was foraging close to shore and the panic set it when they were hit with the spot light.
- alexiscaptive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Danger Zone" track would atract more fish
- sophiaperennis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This is what happens when Tom Cruise jumps into the lake naked. The fishes get really SCARED!
- sophiaperennis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You might ask, why Tom Cruise? Just listen to the song in the background during video play.
- redDC143C, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Anyone else here reminded of the Fly Fish in Super Mario Bros.?

- imightbewrong, on 10/12/2007, -3/+53holy mackerel !
- anicejew, on 10/12/2007, -11/+0What causes this is an electric shock deployed into the water. It was on yesterday's NOVA.
- TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It's not an electric shock, read the damned thread.
- Sp0rAdiC, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6Jesus if that kept up their boat would sink under the weight off all the fish that jumped in.
- dustedbunny, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3hahahaha.
It's like a huge fish retaliation or something...
I should send this to my uncle (an avid fisherman), he'd get a kick out of this. But seriously, I am curious to know why exactly this is happening. I mean I know some fish are more active at night..but what the hell. - zionad, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1where is their fishing gear?
- mrlost117, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17spotlight
- mankyd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10@zionad
It's a protected river. No fishing allowed. On the other hand, who knows if fish jumping into your boat qualifies as "fishing" under the law ;)
- ilovemusic, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I bet it was the music that was playing that attracted them. I wonder what kind of fish those are... heh.
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28Fish love the Top Gun soundtrack.
- Devoboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37Heh, would make for a more interesting time if they were Piranas.
- danielrh9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I've actually seen this happen, it's not as rare as you'd think. When there is a sudden change in barometric pressure it also affects the fish and makes them go nuts. It usually happens right before a lightning storm.
- RadicalBender, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28Heeeeeeerrrre fishy fishy fishy!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFTjeaDlxDI- mendicant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I loved that one when I was a kid and have wanted to see it again forever.
Thanks for that.
- mendicant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I loved that one when I was a kid and have wanted to see it again forever.
- drcreep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10So, that's what fish are up to when we're asleep.
- sathia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9fish just wanna have fun
- Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16Actually, I have seen similar video from a news report how about some rivers and lakes are being overrun by an outside species of fish brought over and introduced from another country (Asian Carp is the species). These fish are multiplying like crazy and destroying the local species. Its actually a huge problem and they are trying to prevent these fish from entering the Great Lakes region.

Just though I would provide some information along with mindless youtube video.- Chewy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2why is anyone digging down the guy above me...he is absolutely 100% correct
- lifesagame, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They're probably Silver Carp, one of the species of imported Asian carp that are overruning many US waterways. They react this was to the sound of motorboats and also to electric current. They can reach 40 lbs and jump 8-10 feet. Think it was on Nova recently as part of a special about the impact of invasive species.
- bizznatch, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2I guess those guys bought the wrong kind of pheromones from teh spammers.
- saverio911, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4It sounds like the jumping Asian carp in the Midwest. They react like this when they sense electric currents from an outboard boat motor. People put up nets on the side of the boat to keep them from hitting the driver.
http://extension.osu.edu/~news/story.php?id=2409- Tito151, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1They don't need a motor to jump. Guys in barrels and rowboats with a net were able to catch them. (Of course, they could have also been jumping from the other boats in the water too).
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2LOL
That spotlight must have really pissed off those fish. - Tito151, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Yea, in Illinois somewhere, they have a contest of who can whack the most fish jumping out of the water. They do this during the daytime and fish are just flying everywhere. It literally looks like a war movie where troops are storming a beach and bombs and bullets are flying everywhere. People use tennis rackets, 2x4s and whatever they can get their hands on to smack the fish that jump at them into their boat. Worse part of it is that they don't even taste that good. It sounds bad, but the fish are an invasive species and need to have their populations drastically reduced.
- dustedbunny, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14That's quite possibly the most redneck thing I've read on here in quite some time. :)
Who eats carp anyway? - Tito151, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I know! Isn't it? When I saw it, I laughed so hard and wanted to compete. People actually get knocked out of their boats from getting hit in the head by a flying fish. I know no one eats a carp. I meant that you're killing all these fish and you can even eat them ...
- iceperson, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4"Who eats carp anyway?"
I hear it goes well with watermelon...
I keed I keed! - shatters, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Sighs, say "redneck" and get modded up... say the "n" word and get modded down...
- iamcam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My Chinese friends says carp tastes pretty good. I just don't know about that.
- dustedbunny, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14That's quite possibly the most redneck thing I've read on here in quite some time. :)
- rhesuspieces00, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2damn, fishes got hops.

- crawdog, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I think I remember seeing something on Chinese Carp that react much like the fish in the video. The sound of boat motors makes them leap out of the water.
- wstrucke, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2i never thought i'd see the phrase "incredible fishing video" on digg
- Avengelist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Alfred Hitchcock's

- dime, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Polish fish. Who'da thunk it....
- taharqa75, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I think these are Asian carp fish, they react to electrical current by jumping out of the water. There's an invasion of them heading towards the Great Lakes of the US as we speak.
- kingfarook, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wow. It is not the spotlight like everyone keeps saying, nor is it a strobe light, which is not even in the video.
- PeteyUK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4in a related light

- Mac2492, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's a good thing they didn't have carpal tunnel or those fishes would be going straight through!
- cairohenrique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey guys...
This video is from a Brazillian's state called Rondonia.
I was born in Brazil and I don't think this even interesting... for me it's pretty normal.
It was a preservation reserve that the fishes and other animals grows with no interference.
The river was crowded and the fishes were closed by the boat... the light and the sound scared them.
Sorry about my English...
See you in Amazon - GringoFlash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's too bad the fish weren't crocodiles.
