I'd get home from school, drop the books and pick up the .410 (same one used by my Mom when she was a kid) and step out the back door. In less than 30 seconds I'd be surrounded by the forest. Hunting, fishing, trapping, learning animal sign and how to track in snow or 'dry' was like breathing for me. Those skills are still honed every year, as well as picking up a few others, like archery.
