- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You don't really have to be too hard core. Probably 1 in 3 rock climbers I've known have had their own wall in a basement garage or attic... and they never use them. Hanging out and climbing with other people at the gym is where a lot of the fun and personal progress comes from.
For the same amount of money you'll spend, you can get a 1 year membership at a local climbing gym. You'll be pushed harder and enjoy climbing much more. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I did this in my apartment, which had lofted ceilings. If you mix fiberglass resin and sand you can make your own holds relatively inexpensively, and in what ever shape/size you want. But as they say, climbing walls are like methadone to the junky, it takes the edge off but it's not the real thing...
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i need a "HOWTO- Justify building a home rock climbing wall!"
- 560Benz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4you'd have to be a pretty hardcore rock climber to take the time to build one of these in your own home... which is respectable. looks pretty fun, i must say
- redlemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it's a miracle!
- Xorsist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"The "Woodie", or home climbing wall".
Guess you learn something new everyday, who knew a rock wal lwas called a woodie? - Cink420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've always thought it would be really fun to have one of these in my house. Don't think I could find the time (not to mention the space) to make it however
- SamyIsMyHero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Site is about to go down. It's very slow right now.

- zclip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I disagree somewhat ... some of the best times we have are in someone's basement just ***** around on a wall. It's way more social than the climbing gym, less competition (pushing is all fine and dandy but sometimes it just makes it not fun. While inspirational, it can also be so demoralizing to watch a guy climb a V9 and then take your turn struggling up a V4)

- climbon321, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd have to agree with optimuscrime on this one. I used to belong to a rock gym and have a wall in my garage. While the garage wall was great for training and setting your own routes, a gym is always more fun (usually with better walls) and more people to push you.
- jukin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice, we used to have one in a local mountaineering store and it was great.
- boulderVnothing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is definitely one of the worst designs for a home climbing wall that I have ever seen. A home wall needs to be steep for effective training. Those vertical walls on the sides are a waste of space and material.
- vtbrak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This page is worth it just for the link at the bottom to the guy who put holds onto a dead tree in his backyard. Nuts. Home gyms are for training. There aren't fun if that is the only thing you do. They exist to give you something to do when drunk on a rainy day.
- johnwesely, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you climb and don't have a gym within a half hour of your home building a home wall would be the only way to really train in bad weather.
- resplence, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow the menu links display one of the lamest hover states I've seen in my entire life.
- tonton2012, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1It's better to practice outdoors. Indoor climbing walls get boring after awhile.
- dominasian, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3i hope kevin makes one for the digg headquarters, that would be so badass.
