- bigstinky, on 09/30/2008, -2/+28You have got to be kidding me.
NO DETROIT LIONS?!?
The single worst team in the history of sports ever?
ONE, count one playoff victory since 1957.
Game after game sells out, yet they give us zero week after week, year after year.
I defy you...Anyone to tell me they have it worse than a lions fan. I was Lion's free for 5 years, and this year I'm all "Hey, they just might show up this year...4 and 0 preseason...Kinda miss rooting for football, I'll give them a shot..."
3 straight losses, giving up something like 135 points in the first half of 3 games alone.
Sickening. This article will not be buried by me because those other team's fan's do feel the pain, but I won't digg it up based on the disregard for the worst team in pro sports history ever.
They do at least deserve that respect. - rossiohead, on 09/30/2008, -0/+12The Bruins made the list? The poor Toronto Maple Laffs were also an Original Six team, and their last Cup was '67 - five years earlier than the latest Bruins championship. It's doubly bad because the Leafs are the most "valuable" team in the NHL, according to Forbes, and have an accordingly huge (but presumably mostly disappointed) fan base.
- Zihuatanejo, on 09/30/2008, -0/+12How will the Cubs ***** it up this year?
- gbudavid, on 09/29/2008, -1/+12Mariners First $100,000,000 team to lose 100 games??
- Kinneas12, on 09/30/2008, -0/+9Yeah for sure. Based on the logic the author gives about why the Bruins are on the list, the Leafs easily beat them. I smell this article as an American only thinking about American teams.
- Guinnessdsu, on 09/30/2008, -0/+8Said like a true bandwagon jumper
- rukeypoo, on 09/30/2008, -1/+8As bad as they are/were. You guys did have Barry Sanders. And he was a treat for everybody to watch for sometime. That counts for something, no?
- Poseur117, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7Barry Sanders kicked ass.
- TheHeat, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7Buried and buried hard.
2 words - 1 playoff win since the conception - 0 superbowl wins - Detroit Lions.
Even with one of the greatest NFL players in history on our team, we couldn't even come close. I've heard them called whooping boys, beat up toys, "what should be an exhibition match" for the opposing team (in regular season), and many other things.
At least the owner of the Clippers is caring and trying now, the only person who seems to remotely care or notice we suck in management is the owners son, who thankfully got the (literally) worst GM in NFL history fired.
When you are a sports franchise, and your GM has "Fire Millen" chants at other pro sports games (Wings, Tigers, Pistons) you know your in pretty awful shape.
I'd bury this a thousand times if I could. - scrumtrallecent, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6Having lived in Seattle my whole life, its been a hard and abusive relationship being a Mariners fan.
- JoeB4ever, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6Glad someone could bring up the Lions before I could. And well said also.
At least Millen is gone. It's uphill from here. - partysan, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5Excuse my language, but this list is *****. No Maple Leafs, no Blackhawks, no Buffalo Bills (who went to the Super Bowl four times and didn't win ***** all, and even managed to lose to a CFL team back in the 60's), Philadelphia Eagles ( or insert any other Philadelphia team), and the Detroit Lions. Could've been a lot better list.
- xerigen, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5I've wasted every autumn Sunday of my entire life watching the Lions. Every week I ask myself, why?
- semeticstallion, on 09/29/2008, -3/+8I live in Pittsburgh, but I wouldn't call Pirates fans "Tortured." Nobody here cares about them and what fans they do have are fairweather fans at best. As for The Cubbies, I'll cheer them on. Their fans are dedicated and have sold out every home game since the 80s, even with terrible losing seasons. I wish you Cubs fans the best this season -- you've certainly waited long enough for a victory and you deserve it.
- CptGreencoat, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5Cleveland Browns? They have most depressingly loyal fans.
- DickyT83, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5Na na na na na na na na na na Bart-man!
- zetamilk, on 09/30/2008, -1/+6Hopefully when the Cubs win their fans won't be as annoying as Red Sox fans are now.
- ratbear, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5How about Seattle fans in general? The Mariners blow, the Seahawks look average at best at this point, the Huskies are just god awful, and the only professional team to have won a championship for our city was whisked away to Oklahoma ***** City (WTF??!!).
- DeskFlyer, on 09/30/2008, -0/+5Cubs? World Series? It's not like you missed the playoffs completely for the past 26 years. You've been there recently and you still blew it (and you can't blame it on Bartman) Try being part of a small market team like Milwaukee, then get back to me.
- JoeB4ever, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4I find it funny that I don't watch Wings and Pistons, and they do great.
I do watch Tigers and Lions...and we both know how they're doing. - Poseur117, on 09/30/2008, -3/+7This is the year for the Cubs.
- bobmugulie, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4I'm still bitter about Super Bowl XL :/
- eeemart, on 09/30/2008, -1/+5a few years ago, the red sox would have been one of the tops on this list. now look at 'em!
- sKiLLa182, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4You jumped ship to become a Bears fan? You could have picked a better team to jump ship to.
- nraphael, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Newcastle United anyone?
- birdly, on 09/30/2008, -1/+4Minnesota Vikings. 0-4 in Super Bowls and haven't even been there since the '70s. Painful.
- Guinnessdsu, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3San Diego teams haven't won a sports championship EVER
- RSS14, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Yeah, we get so much ***** from everyone (especially traitorous Torontonians who supports the Senators)
I, however, will never lose faith in my team! Go Leafs! - urgeigh, on 09/30/2008, -1/+4I too have a terrible case of Lionitis. And as far as Barry goes, it hurts me to even talk about it. The Lions are so bad they killed his desire to continue playing football, even for another team. Okay so that's kind of a joke, but really, the Lions NEVER cease to amaze me in the new ways they manage to lose games or make bad management decisions.. I mean EVERY WEEK it's like me and my friends just get together for a good laugh, and they ***** DELIVER like Fed Ex every time. It's 2008 and as low as my expectations were (They were zero about ~7 years ago) going into this season, the 3 losses thus far still managed to blow my mind.
- Poseur117, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3only when they play good teams.
- duggdowncatisad, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Can you say The Drive?
- spence1818, on 09/30/2008, -1/+4cubs....100 years
- ozmasis, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2The bills lost 4 straight super bowls, thats really got to hurt
- maltize, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2Go Leafs Go!. This is their year!. I say that every year, but I am allowed.....I expect disappointment
- studmuffnin, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2**** Boston
To even think about putting a Boston team on there is RIDICULOUS. I know that curse sucked and all that but What MORE do you want that the Celtics (World Champs), Patriots (16-0) and Red Sox (World Champs) but OOO NOOO your HOCKEY TEAM SUCKS. And the PIRATES? No one in Pittsburgh cares about the Pirates, they only have the 5 time Super Bowl winning Stealers. How do you even put and LA team on there, Ya we live in Los Angeles and were TOURTURED cause the clippers suck. Which Fans of the Cardinals Were tortured the ones in Arizona, St. Louis or Chicago. No Detroit, Ceveland, or Philly? **** off - inactive, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2Play No. 1 - First and 10, Denver 2-yard line. And I cry. - doublefelix, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2I had forgotten about the Pittsburgh Pirates. Do they still show their games on TV?
- samimnot, on 09/30/2008, -1/+3I grew up in Cleveland (please, no sarcastic comments...Iol) and I clearly remember the pride and hope I felt as a kid watching Jim Brown / then Brian Sipe / then Bernie and the cardiac kids / then the Cleveland Ravens (opps...I mean Baltimore) winning the Superbowl.
And now I have to struggle through this article, that doesn't even mention the Browns :-( life just isn't fair sometimes. - rpgguy1o1, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2Oh yeah, I personally hate the Leafs but you've got to hand it to their fans. Still so devote after decades of heartbreak and shame.
- Olfster, on 09/30/2008, -1/+3They should be able to afford it now that the big auto companies have new welfare on the way. All that new Detroit revenue should trickle down. It trickles down doesn't it?
- NeoCortex, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2I'm pretty sure they haven't sold out every home game since the 80's. The current record for consecutive sellouts currently belongs to the Red Sox and that streak started a lot more recently than the 80's.
- MagMan68Classic, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2It counts for something, just not enough to make the Lions fans happy
- partysan, on 09/30/2008, -1/+3Or the Blackhawks. Currently riding the longest Stanley Cup drought of any team.
- LowROI, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2My father (a bruins fan) used to joke with me as a kid saying that I'd be forty years old before the leafs won a cup. I'm 25 now, and I'm starting to believe him.
- BrianClio, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2Thank god you brought up the Lions. They ***** suck. We'll see what old man Ford does to replace Millen.
- momedefome, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2It's gotta be the ***** LIONS!!!!! they had BARRY ***** SANDERS and still sucked!!!!!!
- bjdowns, on 09/30/2008, -3/+5Philadelphia? We haven't won any sports championship since 1983.
We are cursed:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curse_of_Billy_Penn - mary76, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2Agreed. It is hard to be a fan in Cleveland.
- MrAwesomeMan, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2This list sucks. Here's how it could be better:
First of all, the Cubs fans aren't tortured, they're all drunk. If the Cubs just decided to stop playing at Wrigley, I don't think anyone would notice for 6 months. It's just a gigantic beer garden.
Second, you have to put the Lions in there. They are laughably bad on a yearly basis, but still have loyal fans. Every year they have hope, but every year it's gone by game 4. I feel sorry for them.
Third, the Chicago Blackhawks used to have a loyal fan base. Chicago used to love its Blackhawks. Then, "Dollar" Bill Wirtz came up with a brilliant plan: "If we don't show the games on TV, people will come see them in person." Genius! So, all these die-hard Hawks fans who couldn't make it to every single game were basically screwed. Chicago eventually forgot they had a hockey team, and went on with their lives. (That's changing this year, as the games are back on TV, due to the unfortunate passing of Mr. Wirtz in a freak smelting accident.)
Lastly, where's Cleveland? They have the Browns and the Indians. Enough said. -
