- stupidverizon, on 11/04/2007, -2/+47Well that wasn't that fun to watch without Clarkson and Hammond
- askegg, on 10/31/2007, -1/+17Maybe so, but the Atom is within the reach of mortal men.
- Rickler, on 10/31/2007, -1/+12Fastness is relative. Will it do 160mph? No. Will it do 0-60mph is 2.7 seconds? Yes.
- ISEEDEADPEOPLE, on 11/01/2007, -1/+11What the hell you talking about? The UK is far and away the leading country for cottage industry cars, Italy has the Fiat Stable and Lambo but nothing else
America cant produce squat that compares when it comes to actual driving with corners and stuff, the uk has the likes of Lotus, Ariel, Caterham, Ginetta,Jenson,TVR just to name the bigger players,Have you ever wandered why the last 11 years of WRC championships have been won by English Teams or why 60% of the F1 paddock call England home?
And as for Rolls Royce , they are German now! - magicaltrevor, on 10/31/2007, -0/+10Actually, scrap that. Give me an Atom any day.
- gamer31, on 10/31/2007, -1/+10Just as unfortunate if you were on a bike what's your point?
- rasman32, on 10/31/2007, -1/+10The atom does the fastest 0-60mph for any street legal car.
- Garda, on 11/01/2007, -1/+9I like Jeremy Clarkson's review better
http://youtube.com/watch?v=WaWoo82zNUA
It really meshes his face up good - flxfxp, on 11/01/2007, -0/+8I cant wait to see another face distortion video :D
- HellifIno, on 11/01/2007, -0/+8Fine, I'll just leave this down at the bottom where nobody looks:
Atom frame, electric drive.

Opinion: Electric Atom kills the petrol-based Atom. - mustang460, on 11/02/2007, -0/+7200+ mph is utterly useless on the street, i dont care about going 100+ top speed isnt fun its dangerous on the street, acceleration is whats fun and the atom is insanely fast, incredibly nimble car that you can take to the track on weekends its my dreamcar for sure, and its in a realistically affordable price range
if i had the choice between the atom or the veyron money aside i would pick the atom, but in fairness im a fan of striped down racecars - SiliconRain, on 11/01/2007, -6/+13This isn't the fastest road legal car. That honor was recently taken from the Bugatti Veyron by the SSC Ultimate Aero. The atom has never been the fastest road car. I don't get why no one has said that already...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fastest_production_car - inactive, on 11/01/2007, -1/+8All high performance brakes squeak.
- jambox, on 11/05/2007, -0/+6Dude, you bought a f*ckin' CAYMAN?
Hang your head in shame. - KLowD9x, on 11/01/2007, -0/+6Metallic brake pads.
They're going to make noise. - dacheetah, on 11/02/2007, -0/+6Both fast and quick have similar definitions, and neither specifically requires the first differential of displacement.
You can say it moves fastest (velocity, the first derivative of position with respect to time), which is the Veyron, or
You can say it accelerates fastest (acceleration, the second derivative of position with respect to time), which goes to the Atom.
You could also go overboard and look at the third derivative, and compare how quickly they can increase their acceleration, but that's just silly. - iziizi, on 10/31/2007, -0/+5i really don't think you would be giving a ***** about rain when driving that. Its a proper mans car. The washing machine comment made me chuckle.
- Devilboy666, on 10/31/2007, -0/+5Which car are you talking about exactly?
- Haon, on 10/31/2007, -0/+4I just came back from driving the Atom 2 for the whole day on Monday in Vegas. This thing is insane. If any of you have the time and about 1500 (well worth it) give arielatomexperience.com a look. The bad part is that my arms are be like spaghetti for a week and I have to go to work in a few hours. Those things have no power anything.
- Ducksa, on 10/31/2007, -0/+3I would prefer to have an Atom over many competing sportscars. Might not be as practical but it sure seems like a lot more fun.
- sdcarter, on 10/31/2007, -0/+3If you notice, it was lightly raining during the video. wear a coat (which you would likely do anyways) and a helmet (which you definitely would do anyways) and you're fine. It's better than riding a bike in the rain because... well you have 4 wheels so you don't need to worry about hydroplaning as much. They're as reliable as any other car. Tom Ford, automotive journalist, drove an Atom2 to the Arctic Circle. You can catch some footage of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H157sjTfEtk
If I had the money I would buy one and use it as my primary car without a second thought. - Nitro420, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2It's one of the fastest cars around a track, not in a straight line. People are so obsessed about top speed and acceleration. I would much rather have a car that was fast around a track.
"The dragstrip is for fast cars, the racetrack is for fast drivers" - REUYL, on 10/31/2007, -0/+2And the real kicker is the speeds that it can hit while cornering! Truly a car that's meant to be thrown through a real track.
- marsbar, on 10/31/2007, -0/+2It probably drives well but it's impractical except as a track car. I'd rather get a Lotus Elise which looks great and performs well, although admittedly not quite as well as the Atom 3. Too bad Lotus still insists on charging a 14K premium to Canadian buyers: 46K USD or 60K CAD. I guess I'll get neither at least not until Lotus' prices even out.
- HappyDonut, on 11/01/2007, -0/+2....
I like turtles. - jonsimo, on 10/31/2007, -0/+2you like this car? why not buy it on ebay, for a mere $65, 000
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Other-Makes-ARIEL-A ...
it's the one jeremy used on top gear! - graealex, on 11/01/2007, -0/+2"200+ mph is utterly useless on the street,"
Well, not if you're German and have lots of Autobahn. My fastest car did 160mph... - _skin_, on 10/31/2007, -0/+2Come on! You post your ***** on this car thread? Plus, Giuliani isn't going to win anyways. You should find another guy to vote for.
- strangewill, on 11/01/2007, -0/+1Thats the only thing I run into, is that they're really expensive for being so minimal, surely they're QUALITY parts, but I don't think theres $35k+ worth of parts there, they'd sell like hotcakes if they were cheaper methinks.
- skyshock1, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1Sucks in the rain. Why not just buy a crotch rocket motorcyle?
- darkNiGHTS, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1The Bugatti does 0-60 in 2.5 seconds...
- Jahweh, on 10/31/2007, -1/+2IMMENSENESS!! £26K?!?!?!?
- Jahweh, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1plus the price tag.. haha
- Fracture98, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1Sure. Because you could sell it and buy a baker's dozen Atoms.
- WRXFiles, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1Maybe you haven't heard of Ron Paul? (Though I don't know how THAT would be!)
[buried for being off-topic] - Battlemaster1, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1I believe that the Caparo T1 can do it in 2.5 seconds but it costs a hell of a lot more
- darlyn, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1Wow, can't wait to get one of these and wipe out at 150mph!
But seriously, this car's sweet! - REUYL, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1The Prius?
- M0b1u5, on 11/01/2007, -0/+1No.
You confuse "fast" with "quick".
The Atom is devastatingly quick, but is not very fast. My 25 year old Porsche is faster in fact.
Disclaimer: poster has driven laps in an Atom with the bigger motor. - MacMasore, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1Its not the fastest car in a straight line but on a track it has to be faster than the Veyron
- WRXFiles, on 10/31/2007, -1/+2Go south of the 49th and buy it yourself. With the plummeting US dollar, cars are a bargain. We saved $21,000 on a Cayman, and friends saved $12,000 on a MINI
- defaultdigger, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1pwned
- inactive, on 11/01/2007, -0/+1i meant their antique rolls royce with the quality timber xD
- cdubd, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1great zombie.....
- matude, on 10/31/2007, -1/+1More like a formula than a car tbh..
- rasman32, on 10/31/2007, -4/+4"raindrops keep ripping up my skin, if I drive any faster my death will soon begin"
- untilwefall, on 10/31/2007, -0/+0helifino
you're right, in terms of acceleration power, electric atom does own gas atom. electric cars are faster on the get go cause they don't have the gas delay on combustion, to drivetrain, to power. it's straight from engine to power.
problem with electric is still the same. lasts for short times and takes longer to recharge than to refill. if you were only using it for drag, yes. - Burninsensation, on 10/31/2007, -1/+1Fastest road car = Caparo t1
- Spelvin, on 10/31/2007, -1/+1God I hate this reply system. Yes you are all right:

The Ultimate Aero TT produced by Shelby Supercars - addiggt, on 07/06/2009, -1/+1You're absolutely right stupidverizon (awesome name). Long live Top Gear! http://youtube.com/watch?v=WaWoo82zNUA :)
