- LeechesOfKarma, on 04/20/2009, -1/+40Wow, times have really changed. When I was a kid skateboarders were considered punks and nothing but trouble.
- Bloodwine, on 04/20/2009, -2/+31Or, how about we just re-institute recess and allow kids to play dodgeball and ***** like they have for decades before the ***** PC police took over education.
Nothing will make a kid get in shape faster than dodging giant balls o' pain. - brownsound00, on 04/20/2009, -0/+17recently... a school in my town outlawed RUNNING at recess.. because someone might run into someone else and hurt them.
...
i wish i could have put a /S here... but it's actually true :( - driftwood07, on 04/20/2009, -0/+13wish i had this when i was in school
- chieflbm, on 04/20/2009, -0/+11I'm all for whatever gets the little porkers doing some physical activity
- belac88, on 04/20/2009, -3/+14Skateboarding is not a crime.
- ontain, on 04/20/2009, -1/+8but still better than the ones you hear playing Halo/CS etc.
- slimthps, on 04/20/2009, -0/+7Digg supports potheads but not skaters?
- SpeedStix, on 04/20/2009, -1/+7Shut up grandpa
- Rizzen, on 04/21/2009, -0/+5I would start with your English teacher.
- MagicHobo, on 04/20/2009, -3/+8Nothing against skateboarding, but is this really what is replacing art and music classes?
- blueduck4ever, on 04/20/2009, -2/+7radical
- bradwjensen, on 04/20/2009, -1/+5Finally!
Skateboarding is a wonderful workout for the body; legs, abs, mind, and all.
Just remember to stretch before take off, I learned that after a few years of skating..
http://www.youtube.com/user/bradwjensen#user_video ... - CanadaMan87, on 04/20/2009, -2/+6Though I don't care for skateboarding - I think this is great. It's cool that these kids get to take part in some more modern activities in school.
- d3adly21, on 04/20/2009, -0/+4Its replacing physical education classes.
- stuffradio, on 04/20/2009, -0/+4A local high school did this too!
http://www.bclocalnews.com/tri_city_maple_ridge/ma ... - SpeedStix, on 04/20/2009, -0/+3haha ohh man, I remember those days...It's funny this sort of thing happens everywhere. When I first started skateboarding in my home town out City Hall had the best sets, ledges and rails. Skateboarders always got kicked out or ledges got capped. I went back to skate there a year ago and guess what they did? They made a small skatepark at the city hall. It is pretty decent too.
- bobjrn2, on 04/20/2009, -1/+4Holy *****. Innovative thinking in the government!? Now someone get him a real job in the sheriff's office so he can tell those moron cops to stop funding their jobs by setting up speed traps in areas that obviously need the speed limit raised and to manually control the one light that isn't synchronized causing a 20 minute delay on my way to work.
- Pyehole, on 04/20/2009, -0/+3Apparently you don't read the news. We're not the only nation of fatties out there, the internet is now ubiquitous.
- SpeedStix, on 04/20/2009, -0/+3WTF.. kids don't get recess any more?
What is this world coming too! - Bloodwine, on 04/20/2009, -0/+3skateboarding has been around for 30+ years.
- neelsama, on 04/20/2009, -2/+5I envy these little kids. Really lucky
- WiLdRiCe, on 04/20/2009, -1/+4they may just be able to make kids prefer physical activity again
- yagoogaly, on 04/20/2009, -0/+3"...in lieu of spending hours texting and surfing Web sites like Facebook" ...and Digg >_<
- inactive, on 04/20/2009, -2/+5Minimal physical activity + high rate of broken bones = a generation of fat meth-heads on workman's comp
- Schralpy, on 04/21/2009, -0/+2Boo ***** hoo. Why don't you cry about it? Kids like skateboarding. Deal.
- seandfeeney, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2I can see it now, kids no longer fat but, they all have broken bones! There will always be something to complain about.
- monsterenergy, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2I took surfing and windsurfing as PE courses at my school, pretty nuts.
- Radan, on 04/20/2009, -1/+3I think stop feeding them with crap food everyday would do much more in this matter than adding additional sports. However, if you disregard the obesity issue, I think it's great that the schools finally let the kids do sports that they actually like.
- inactive, on 04/20/2009, -2/+4And the cops swarm in, issue 34 tickets and acted like total *****. Meanwhile, another meth lab is doing brisk business 2 blocks down the road. (or in my case, 2 houses down).
- Gr1nch, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2Digg is watched over by organizations in order to influence public opinion/further special interests. I've seen ads for jobs on craiglist. I was appalled.
- zomgflamer, on 04/20/2009, -1/+3who do i sue for this bs. ***** living in California, with taxes up to the freaking scrapers and all we got is piece if ***** bruised up hocky sticks and a ripped open pucks. We were told to play on the school parking lot filled with pebbles that would scrape ur knees up trying defend a shot, unplayable. And they still failed u from PE for not wearing their queer arse school PE uniforms that were uncomfortable and trash which we had to pay 50 bucks for btw.
Who do I ***** sue!!!! - kalvinb, on 04/21/2009, -0/+2$20 for the board, $80 for pads and a helmet x 12 kids = $1200
And that's on the low end.
One soccer ball costs $10 and will entertain a dozen kids at once. - CanadaMan87, on 04/21/2009, -0/+1That doesn't mean it isn't still modern. I mean that in the sense of it being contemporary and popular - I'm not saying it was invented yesterday.
It's certainly newer than common P.E. games like dodgeball, soccer, handball, etc - cannuk, on 04/20/2009, -1/+2you sir, are the douchebag
- URnotheonly1, on 04/20/2009, -2/+3We have arrived..... we have arrived!
- saltydawkins, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1How many gradeschool kids do you think hang out on digg???
- Chooxo, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1Yeah... "cool".
- SpeedStix, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1Well at least they aren't doing pole dancing...
- kalvinb, on 04/20/2009, -2/+3This is why public education is a money pit. Instead of spending $10 a single ball that can entertain a dozen kids for an hour playing soccer, they'd rather spend $20+ on each of a dozen kids to get them a skateboard. Oh but wait, then we need pads and helmets, too. So let's spend around $1200 instead of $10. Just for equipment. We can go ahead and tack on infrastructure as well. It'd be dangerous for the kids to practice skateboarding in the school parking lot and it would destroy the gym floor so they'll need to build a special facility for skateboarding.
That's way better than just finding a relatively flat plot of land that may or may not have grass for the kids to play soccer on.
Brilliant. - autoacat, on 04/20/2009, -1/+2We are riders on a mission,
action kids in play position - PhoenixReborn, on 04/20/2009, -1/+2Bah, go teach the kids parkour. It's awesome and it keeps you fit.
- lemartravis1, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1That would have been so much fun back when I was in school
- photosynthesis2, on 04/29/2009, -0/+1Awesome! I wish they would do that at my highschool. thats something fun to do. i think this should spread to other schools in the nation. hopefully mine.
- LalanDevin, on 05/29/2009, -0/+1Yeah, everything is really changing. Well, it really a good diversion for kids to learn, instead on setting in front of computer and tv eating junk all they long without burning fats. Learning skateboarding will really help them a lot. Not only physically but mentally. I do believe learning this game needs lots of stamina and quick thinking to execute its move smoothly. Cheers, Lalan
- raeshao, on 04/20/2009, -1/+2Get bangin' on that new video! :)
Says the old dude who's getting back on a board after riding from '86 - '02. - Schralpy, on 04/21/2009, -0/+1Wow. You haven't checked any dudes in awhile, have you?
