- Trekhawk, on 02/24/2009, -1/+28So long as they give Erin Andrews what she wants, I'm cool.
- DickyT83, on 02/24/2009, -7/+31What a *****. Yeah I said it.
- omenmedia, on 02/24/2009, -0/+23Boo ***** hoo.
- souldawg, on 02/23/2009, -0/+22"It's the economy stupid" There truly has to be more to this story. Nobody is that shallow.
- EMFK, on 02/23/2009, -0/+21Good riddance, Stacey Dales annoys me.
- nkassi, on 02/24/2009, -1/+19Hehehe, BUT if you read the article it does sounds like she was protesting the better treatment of her colleagues.
- Miamisun, on 02/24/2009, -2/+20If i walked on a plane with three other on air personalities and they sat down in first class and i had to walk back to coach week after week i would start to build a little resentment towards the job as well.
- sfrench, on 02/24/2009, -0/+14Maybe it's just because she had to interview Mangino. That seems like a valid reason.
http://s2nblog.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/mangino ... - blackprizm, on 02/24/2009, -1/+14Granted she is 6' tall.... so not completely unbearably tall. But I'm 6'4" tall and if I had to fly coach every other day I guarantee I'd have to get a leg or foot amputated. Perhaps I'd even get a blood clot and keel over dead. When you don't fit in a seat, you just don't fit. It's not a matter of being uncomfortable, it's a matter of holy *****, I think I'm gonna freak out because I'm in a trash compactor for the next 5 hours. It sucks to be tall and fly coach. I kinda have to empathize with her.
- ckup619, on 02/24/2009, -2/+12i understand all the points arguing that she is being ridiculous having to fly coach... however, just to play devils advocate... how would you feel if you were promised something in your work contract and it wasn't withheld on the opposite end?
- Hazardc, on 02/24/2009, -1/+9This just doesn't add up, to be honest. Nobody quits a high paying job just for the sole reason of flying coach.
- bradcrc, on 02/24/2009, -1/+8I fly coach for work
it sucks.
but knowing so many unemployed people near me, I think anyone who quits their job these days is a moron, and to do it over something so stupid, well... - texodore, on 02/24/2009, -4/+10If everyone else flies first class and she flies coach, isn't that some sort of discrimination?
- davewashere, on 02/24/2009, -0/+5Only certain types of discrimination are not allowed. If she was forced to fly coach because of her race or gender, than she'd certainly have good reason to sue. It seems more likely in this case that she was forced to fly coach because she was a lower quality on-air talent and the network's demand for her was not nearly as great as their demand for some of her colleagues. Talent-based discrimination is not against the law. If it were, Melky Cabrera would make as much money as Derek Jeter and he wouldn't have to catch a ride to the stadium in the back of a pickup truck.
- SkinnyPuppy, on 02/24/2009, -1/+5A slightly different take:
http://newsok.com/stacey-dales-espn-fail-to-make-a ... - vocalyouth, on 02/24/2009, -0/+4I'd like a flying couch, too.
- blackprizm, on 02/24/2009, -0/+4Perhaps you have a taller body than legs...I'm all legs with very wide shoulders. I'm in the persons space next to me and my legs don't even fit. At all. So no... no joke at all
- mille716, on 02/24/2009, -0/+4I would be pissed off. However, we have no evidence that she was promised anything in her contract and it seems like something she'd have mentioned in her complaint.
- ameba, on 02/24/2009, -0/+3ha, i thought fly coach was a type of job she had to do, like a type of coaching. so i googled it
/retard - RAT-Man, on 02/24/2009, -1/+4Can't blame her. If I have to practically live on a plane each week, flying coach isn't something to look forward to.
- Nintendesert, on 02/24/2009, -1/+4Then she can pay the ***** difference and upgrade her own ***** ticket if she's so damn successful.
- spunky1973, on 02/24/2009, -0/+3What does everyone have against coach? Craig T. Nelson was hilarious!
- joolsca, on 02/24/2009, -1/+4Who cares why she quit? It's her life, her choice..she chose to quit... ***** of a writer with too much time on her hands wants to make it a bigger issue than it is...
Dales wasn't ripping off shareholders, employees or her bosses..she decided to tall them to "take this job and shove it" because sometimes that's what feels right. - bruin8uclap, on 02/24/2009, -0/+2"like hit-on-her-while-your-girlfriend-stands-right-next-to-you cute." You don't want to go down that road my friend. Me and my 9 remaining fingers will attest to this.
- jefbob, on 02/24/2009, -0/+2I know what you mean, I am 6'5" and I HATE flying because its just beyond uncomfortable. For me, any trip that clocks in at less than an 8 hour drive, I drive it because the comfort level of driving far outweighs the amount of time saved by flying, since it will still take several hours to fly because of having to traverse airports, wait in lines, wait at baggage claim, etc.
- inactive, on 02/24/2009, -0/+2There is. Stacy Dales isn't like this at all.
- FreddieD, on 02/24/2009, -0/+2He was, but if i'm being forced to fly on top of him, I would probably consider an employment change.
- Cerebral, on 02/24/2009, -0/+2Exactly... You have to love digg for it's sensationalism. From what I've understood she had it "in writing" in her contract that she would be flown first class AND on top of that other personalities (all male from the list I heard) are still riding first class.
I've heard there would possibly be a lawsuit to follow. It will be interesting to see where it goes. - Tubal22, on 02/24/2009, -1/+3You make no sense.
ESPN is cutting back. Some of their reporters fly coach. Simple as that. Like the article said, the people who don't, probably have it worked in their contract from years ago. - Thuban, on 02/24/2009, -1/+3Wow she sure showed them! I'll bet their wringing their hands about her leaving. Amputee's in Darfur are reading this going: "They asked her to fly couch? THERE IS NO GOD!"
Seriously though, there must be more to this. - lightinggod, on 02/24/2009, -0/+2I don't follow sports, but it seems to me that there can't be that big a market for Woman's college basketball announcers.
- nomadxx7, on 02/24/2009, -1/+3Are you also a contortionist?
- inactive, on 02/24/2009, -1/+3She can fly first class with me if she gets to sit on my lap.
- thedogfatherx, on 02/24/2009, -0/+2I don't care who you are. If you have a good job and are making a lot of money and you quit due to this ***** your an arrogant piece of ***** to me. Enough said.
- BigBlitz, on 02/24/2009, -0/+2Sideline reporters are worthless anyway.
- nomadxx7, on 02/24/2009, -0/+2Nope she tried to negotiate a new contract and they balked at giving her similar treatment as her colleagues.
- sdigroup, on 02/24/2009, -0/+2I'd hit that...
- Axtell2k5, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1When she's the only one being forced to fly coach at ESPN, and when there are competing networks who will fly you first class, she's doing the right thing in moving away. If anyone here was being treated so differently as she obviously was, you'd all do the same thing so quit your bitching about her quitting being not justified.
- sfasu77, on 02/24/2009, -1/+2I'd do it for that fatass paycheck... hell I'd drive my own vehicle in the ground. She flew coach because she's young and has to pay her dues just like everybody else. I hope she's forced to take a regular cubicle job and tool around on digg all day like me.
- sirmitchell, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1I'm 6'3 and I had to fly coach for business many times. Women sports reporters (minus erin andrews) suck.
- dmoffitt, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1I can't blame her, flying blows and flying coach blows more.
- inactive, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1Mangino is a great last name for a really fat dude.
- billmill, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1I remember reading an article about her leaving ESPN back in November, crumby to hear it is over such a petty reason.
- belandrew, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1pussy
- LowRentDiggs, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1She decided she didn't want to travel like that, no harm in it, it's her decision.
I quit a job because I was traveling too much and flying a few times a week sucks if you're not business or first class. I don't blame her for quitting her job because she doesn't want to fly coach 2-3 times a week either. There are better jobs that don't require that much travel. Don't get all over someone who doesn't want to fly all over the place in cramped seats for half the year. - jericho4119, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1May have been an extreme decision, but we all have to set our own parameters.
She is six feet tall and I am sure that those coach seats are not very comfortable; if she can find a job that will let her be comfortable - why not? - davewashere, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1@ Cerebral: Did it say that she had that in her contract? I just read that her colleagues probably had it in their contracts. I doubt ESPN would be dumb enough to make her fly coach if they had a contractual obligation to fly her business class. That would pretty much be a slam dunk lawsuit.
- ousthouse, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1That was probably a dumb career choice... but damn... that article laid it on thick. The woman isn't Bernie Madoff.
- Slayerdude51982, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1REALLY? WTF MAN?! I'm dying to get a job at ESPN, even something entry level and this lady has an awesome job and quits cause she flew coach? Damn it!
- fuknlightn, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1Why do some of her colleagues get to continue flying first class?
If the dude in the next cubicle to me, got to fly first class and I got coach I would quit this bitch right now. -
