- Lucas123, on 04/15/2008, -1/+33The most disturbing: Laker's forward Kermit Alan Washington punching Rudy Tomjanovich during an on-court fight 1977. Rocket Rudy T. almost died, had to have his face reconstructed and was never the same, while Washington was allowed to continue in his career playing for four other teams -- Boston Celtics, San Diego Clippers, Portland Trail Blazers and Golden State Warriors -- before retiring in 1983. Odd factoid: Kermit was a phychology major in college.
- danwallace, on 04/15/2008, -0/+12"As it turned out, Tomjanovich came very close to dying on the court. Besides having the bone structure of his face detached from his skull, he was leaking blood and spinal fluid into his skull capsule. Tomjanovich would later recount that at the time of the incident, he believed a scoreboard fell on him."
Ouch. - lensman00, on 04/15/2008, -6/+13To be fair, while "The Punch" had very dramatic consequences, it is arguably not qualified to be on this list. Tomjanovich came running into a fight that was already in progress, and Washington turned and hit him as Tomjanovich came in from Washington's blind spot. There was no premeditation, and the event is at least somewhat explained by the circumstances.
Bottom line: if you choose to enter a fight, you should be ready to defend yourself. If not, stay out of it.- ScottMitchell, on 04/15/2008, -0/+3But I don't think Rudy T was "entering the fight." IIRC, from interviews, he said he was going there to help break it up.
Granted, you risk injury entering a fight, but one who runs into a fight to help break it up isn't on the defensive. Watch the video. Rudy's hands are down, he's focusing on pulling apart the two sparring. He's not trying to take out Kermit Washington or start throwing blows.- Cerebral, on 04/15/2008, -0/+3Shouldn't it be the ref's job to break up the fight and NOT the player's? You would think that more players coming over would fuel the fight more. You know, kind of like in baseball where none of the guys run out there to "break up" the fight.

http://digg.com/extreme_sports/Top_10_Unsportsman_ ...- adrenaline33, on 04/15/2008, -3/+7yeah, since everyone has been on DIgg for 1 year and a half and all.
- yellowfish04, on 04/15/2008, -2/+1oh man, it makes so much sense now, I was on vacation from 1 year 172 days ago to 1 year 164 days ago, so I guess Im glad this has been posted again!
- cawpin, on 04/15/2008, -3/+2I'm just showing a trend of recent submissions. These show up when you submit a story. If you submit it anyway, technically, you are breaking the site use rules. I'm not saying everybody has seen them, just that they are dupes and obvious ones at that. I see no qualifier on the "Bury as duplicate" choice.
- Punisher2K, on 04/15/2008, -0/+2Hey man, it ain't easy being green
- offspring06, on 04/15/2008, -1/+1The man must have had a hard punch.
- danwallace, on 04/15/2008, -0/+12"As it turned out, Tomjanovich came very close to dying on the court. - Bukowsky, on 04/15/2008, -1/+20I wonder why Ron Artest vs. the Pistons didn't make the list?
- BornWithRage, on 04/15/2008, -0/+16they didn't date the video, but i'm willing to bet this sportcenter aired before that happened.
- hijinks, on 04/15/2008, -0/+8well the kind of dated it. It was the clip where Izzy Alcantara kicked the catcher. If i remember they said just this summer. That happened around 2001 I think.
- Cerebral, on 04/15/2008, -0/+2Yea, I think the "Rays" (then Devil Rays) guy in the minors throwing the bat at the ump would make the list now too.
- hijinks, on 04/15/2008, -0/+8well the kind of dated it. It was the clip where Izzy Alcantara kicked the catcher. If i remember they said just this summer. That happened around 2001 I think.
- mack788, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2I watch a lot of Sportscenter and this is at least 5-6 years old.
- senatorkevin, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1This is also the third time this video has been on digg.... Pretty sure this was made around `99/2000 based on the "bottom line". I watch a lot of ESPN too.
- BornWithRage, on 04/15/2008, -0/+16they didn't date the video, but i'm willing to bet this sportcenter aired before that happened.
- killbert24, on 04/15/2008, -17/+2Hardcore. I think all sports should allow this kind of rough and unfair play.
The only rule is: there are no rules.- eyepatch100, on 04/15/2008, -0/+7You've been playing too much NFL Blitz.
- deviouskoopa, on 04/15/2008, -0/+26Wow @ nutpunch
- theotheragentm, on 04/15/2008, -0/+6And he ran away on top of that. He must have learned to fight from Homer Simpson.
"You scream 'I'm a hemophiliac' in the most girly voice you can. Then when he turns away in disgust, then it's time to kick some back!"- Cerebral, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1I think he either a) went to finish the play or b) get off the field.
I mean there was still a game going on there.
- Cerebral, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1I think he either a) went to finish the play or b) get off the field.
- TheCaterpillar, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1"Thats just not good for anybody"
***** a - AlKo, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1That wasn't the only NFL nutpunch. I think last season they caught and suspended some for doing the forearm shiver to the nuts of a opponent well after the play. Someone help me out here...
- theotheragentm, on 04/15/2008, -0/+6And he ran away on top of that. He must have learned to fight from Homer Simpson.
- trevorjez, on 04/15/2008, -1/+7the nancy thing still makes me laugh. i know that is terrible, but i just can't help it.
- MEGACAMZ, on 04/15/2008, -1/+0She sounds like a cat meowing to get out of the house or something!
- MikeEnIke, on 04/15/2008, -1/+2Was this the whole Tonya Harding thing?
- rootnik, on 04/15/2008, -8/+13I was starting to get a little worried when this didn't show up on the front page again for over a month. Thanks for restoring my faith in digg!
- rudy23, on 04/15/2008, -0/+2now thats a good way to whine. kudos.
- poorbusker, on 04/15/2008, -9/+2i see this on digg once a year
- ArchieAndrews, on 04/15/2008, -1/+42How Bertuzzi missed making this list is beyond me.
- toolbox, on 04/15/2008, -8/+2Bertuzzi?
- Guppy, on 04/15/2008, -0/+3He's played for the Vancouver Canucks (NHL) when he did this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz9RE9RGrVY
explained here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Bertuzzi#Steve_M ...
Was a disgusting incident and he rightly got suspended
- Guppy, on 04/15/2008, -0/+3He's played for the Vancouver Canucks (NHL) when he did this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz9RE9RGrVY
- Laqrhead, on 04/15/2008, -0/+8This must have been made before the Bertuzzi incident. There's no way that it wouldn't be number one.
- ngmcs8203, on 04/15/2008, -0/+4Video is circa 2001, that's why.
- nickerbocker, on 04/15/2008, -0/+3If they had this updated it would have at least 5 things from the Suns vs Spurs 2007 playoff series.
- ArchieAndrews, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Makes sense. I think I had a brainfart because I thought the Brashear/McSorley incident was around the same time but after looking it up, they were years apart.
- TheCaterpillar, on 04/15/2008, -0/+3Agreed, video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz9RE9RGrVY
- rainydaywoman, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1I guess they didn't want two incidences from the Canucks on the list.
- toolbox, on 04/15/2008, -8/+2Bertuzzi?
- boyabouttown, on 04/15/2008, -4/+2Wow, that's not too old, is it? It's 2008, right?
- tmanv, on 04/15/2008, -2/+7Inspired by Sean Avery I guess?
- McHaleR, on 04/15/2008, -2/+1GO BLUE SHIRTS!
- Morphinity, on 04/15/2008, -1/+2LET'S GO RANGERS!
- lansuggs, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Just a few nights ago... I don't think it's possible to be more of an unsportsmanlike pest. Look how he celebrates like he won the Cup after the goal!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ec_2oKWe2Gw- LStone, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1I watched the replay of that during the Flames game. Sure it was despicable, but my friends and I were laughing our asses off. It was the stupidest thing we'd ever saw.
- ryptide, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I, for one, thought it was freaking brilliant, save the fact that he didn't keep his stick down and could have cost his team any goal being called back if the puck made contact with his high stick.
Beyond that, he was within the rules. The NHL has of course stepped in now and "clarified" that rule.
- ryptide, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I, for one, thought it was freaking brilliant, save the fact that he didn't keep his stick down and could have cost his team any goal being called back if the puck made contact with his high stick.
- LStone, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1I watched the replay of that during the Flames game. Sure it was despicable, but my friends and I were laughing our asses off. It was the stupidest thing we'd ever saw.
- zzzpoohzzz, on 04/15/2008, -0/+25no bertuzzi? that was one of the cheapest shots i had ever seen... the one where he punched the guy from behind and slammed his face off the ice?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz9RE9RGrVY (not a rickroll) first one i found... no sound though- Jeffler, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1The video is way behind, otherwise it'd be full of NHL clips...I've seen it as earily as 2004 on file sharing networks. Bertuzii would've been on there, and Simon would've twice.
- tehnico, on 04/15/2008, -3/+2Pfft, whatever. Steve Moore was the ***** that nearly ended Mats Naslund career with another massive head shot two weeks before that happened. Revenge was bound to happen, Moore was a marked man. Unfourtunately for him a bad fall and face plant later, his career was over. I want to make it clear that he didn't deserve a career ending injury. But he made the choice to play with the big boys as a goon, giving out his own cheap shots, something was bound to happen.
- Jeffler, on 04/15/2008, -1/+2Moore went back in time? Wrong Naslund...
- MewTwo, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Yeah Hocky is unbelievable. Too many unsportsman like moves. Also, soccer... so much of that *****.
- twistymcgee, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1If you include Bertuzzi then you'd have to include all of the other checks from behind in the NHL. That happens (or perhaps happened, I think it calmed down a bit since that incident) all the time in the NHL. It just happened that he hit Moore just the right way. Not that I'm defending the act in any way, but when it happens and no one gets injured, it's just another penalty.
- davidrools, on 04/15/2008, -0/+6Sad moments. Lemieux's hit, I don't think, was all that dirty but had bad results. Dirty hits happen all the time in hockey, it's just the ones that result in bad injuries that get the most attention, like Bertuzzi's sucker punch on Moore.
- laserblazer, on 04/15/2008, -7/+41Don't list the Zidane head-butt here - that greasy prick Materazzi was asking for it.
- tmanv, on 04/15/2008, -3/+6Haha, great use of greasy.
- Jeffler, on 04/15/2008, -1/+2Agreed and I'm Italian
- hijinks, on 04/15/2008, -2/+3that video was from 2001 or I am sure it would of been there
- fatTJ, on 04/15/2008, -1/+3That Was The Only Time in My Life That I've Defended a Frenchman
- poorbusker, on 04/15/2008, -6/+5i did a quick search and this has been on the homepage two times in the last year. Come on' Digg, quit slacking.
- twertyto, on 04/15/2008, -6/+4Buried for the top 10 not all being from the NHL.
- markgl, on 04/15/2008, -1/+25Love the sidekick to the catcher! I've never seen that one!
- Kaishakunin, on 04/15/2008, -2/+0Crazy as hell, im agree.
- MSstar, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1so you're agree?
- toast4321, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2But it's so brilliant! Stop the catcher so he can't try to tackle you from behind before you reach the pitcher. The Fu is strong with that one.
- ErikHarrison, on 04/15/2008, -1/+2The catcher called the pitch, he got what he deserved a foot in the mouth!
- rudy23, on 04/15/2008, -0/+2that should have been #1
- maerc, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1I was laughing at that for so long.
Sweet side ninja-kick to the throat.
- Kaishakunin, on 04/15/2008, -2/+0Crazy as hell, im agree.
- DeFex, on 04/15/2008, -7/+2i missed the florida election results in there.
- dan222555, on 04/15/2008, -4/+1Apparently not counting the last ten years of sports since this video was made...
- orangetiki, on 04/15/2008, -1/+4Hard to put this topic into a top 10. I can think of 20 other ones that should be on this list.
- bergermeister, on 04/15/2008, -0/+6What about Charles Martin's body slam of Jim McMahon?
- Kaishakunin, on 04/15/2008, -1/+1Number 2 is the worst.
- OffPiste, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Windshields? I think not.
- mrhedges, on 04/15/2008, -4/+3This top ten list should be altered to include Sean Avery's insanely annoying gesture infront of Martin Brodeur.
- Jeffler, on 04/15/2008, -2/+4That was ***** awesome, don't even start.
- sgglynn, on 04/15/2008, -1/+2Oh please, you think Sean Avery blocking a goalies vision should be considered the top 10 most unsportsmanlike plays? He didn't hit him, he didn't harm him, he annoyed him, and it was ***** hilarious. Bertuzzi deserves to be on the list, not Avery. Somehow you feel that outranks all the other cheap shots, gambling issues, bribery, and other disgraceful plays that weren't able to make the list.
- mrhedges, on 04/15/2008, -0/+0Actually no I don't, I just also think that it was hilarious, and I would have loved to see it mentioned on a top ten list.
- MysticSavage, on 04/15/2008, -1/+0I hate Avery as much as the next guy, but it wasn't illegal.
- thinboyslim, on 04/15/2008, -2/+7no Cantona kung fu kicking a fan mid game?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwhXYS993Y0&feature ... (astley sux)- snowpatrol, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1OH AH CANTONA!
- MicahT0078, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1These guys obviously did not have access to college film. I know in the past 3 years in the SEC alone there is more than enough footage to knock half of these of the this list.
- codwif, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Where's Darrel Strawberry's dugout punch against the Orioles (i think). That's a classic!
- schibs, on 04/15/2008, -0/+11This one definitely belongs on the list:
Todd Bertuzzi sucker punched Steve Moore from behind during a 2004 game, knocking him out instantly and breaking his neck.
Bertuzzi lost almost a million in salary and sponsorhips because of this hit:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7CFZO-2zqI
Granted, this was retaliation for Moore's hit on Markus Naslund, which happened after the whistle in a game three weeks prior. The hit took Naslund out for three games (concussion, elbow chip). No penalty called = pissed off fans/players.- hijinks, on 04/15/2008, -0/+2the video was from 2001
- schibs, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Good point...
- ChzPlz, on 04/15/2008, -0/+4No "Stink Finger" Hepoate?

- Severys, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1Do you mean Hopoate?
- kenedamick, on 04/15/2008, -0/+3That karate kick/mound-charge was hilarious
- rudy23, on 04/15/2008, -0/+2No 3 was the worst.
- o0adam0o, on 04/15/2008, -0/+7I dont have speakers at work. Whats up with that football player beating up another guy during practice? #8
- EpiXl33t, on 04/15/2008, -2/+1old....
- jon926, on 04/15/2008, -2/+1that cowboy deserved the nut shot.
- mrbenns, on 04/15/2008, -0/+5as a Redskins fan, I am so proud they make it onto the top ten twice
- scdicks, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1could have been 3. Taylor's spit was nastier than Romo's.
- ogisdan, on 04/15/2008, -1/+2Bertuzzi's sucker punch should be number one.
- triggerfinger, on 04/15/2008, -1/+4How bout Rugby try these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RID8_ZFd3o8 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeWehP9Uijc not yesterdays finger up the... http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=0b6_1208099669&p=1

- d0ugfunny, on 04/15/2008, -2/+6this is nothing compared to this on digg the other day
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=0b6_1208099669&p=1 - Thrilltone, on 04/15/2008, -6/+4What about that time Kobe overpowered the defense and took it to the hole?
- MysticSavage, on 04/15/2008, -0/+4You talking about that time at the hotel in Colorado?
- sphigel, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1He went strong to the hole. He could not be denied.
- Kfresh34, on 04/15/2008, -0/+2#2 and #8 are instant classics... still laughing.

Marcus Vick stomps: http://youtube.com/watch?v=zfMcqB9jwS0&feature=rel ... - fenixconnektion, on 04/15/2008, -1/+5What about Robert Horry bodychecking Steve Nash during last year's NBA playoffs:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=yp4UF4Av_g0- braeden0613, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1ehh...that was pretty mild...nash added a little acting
- ProjectGSX, on 04/15/2008, -1/+3Note: No Bruce Bowen on the list.
- braeden0613, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1suck on that suns fans!
- BigPapi, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1What about A-Rod's hamburger helper slap to Bronson Arroyo's glove in the 2004 ALCS?
- WarrenPeace, on 04/15/2008, -1/+0I guess it's hard for some people to tell ESPN from TSN????
- iamdan1, on 04/15/2008, -1/+2How many times does this ancient video have to be dugg? Im sick of this damn thing!!!
- Slayerdude51982, on 04/15/2008, -0/+2I laughed my ass off at number 4, man that kick to the catcher was insane!
- laconica007, on 04/15/2008, -0/+3What about Arod slapping the ball out of Bronson Arroyo's mitt in 2004? I know its not a blow to the sack but Arod is never ceases to surprise me in his classlessness. Mr. April is such a dissappointment.
- pdt4life, on 04/15/2008, -0/+2I'm surprised this isn't just a biography of Bruce Bowen.
