- cgruber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oscar is past his prime.
- esofthub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3JoseBrazil,
I was thinking about that too. I think Floyd's Dad said no a few months ago but things might be different now.
I want De La Hoya to win, but I think Mayweather is too darn fast and skilled to be outboxed by Oscar. Who's your pick? - JoseBrazil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It'll certainly be an interesting match-up. Mayweather having to move up in weight might level things a little more, but I agree that he should be just too lightning fast even for someone as ring-savvy as De La Hoya. Should be a great occasion, though.
- jsp317, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2May weather is faster hands down. Can he take a real punch remains to be seen. Oscar is stronger. I know speed beats power but has Floyd ever been hit that hard. If the fight goes twelve rounds May weather by decision. I'm not sure it will. Both have power. Oscar is pretty fast too. It's a fight i have to pay to view. I'm gonna pay to view. My prediction. That's a hard one. Oscar by KO. I might eat my words but that the way it goes. The first time Oscar hits him hard he is gonna want to go home. Cant wait to watch this fight.
- esofthub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2unanimous decision to mayweather.
- jinster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cinco de Mayo, eh? This could get messy.
- theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mayweather is undoubtedly great. But the best ever? Not hardly. I would take Rocky Marciano on that one. Yes of course they are in different weight classes, but you did say best ever.
Best Middleweight (this fight is at Jr. Middleweight) ? Probably either Sugar Ray Robinson, Thomas Hearns or yes, even Bernard Hopkins. Hopkins ain't no joke. Yes, Hopkins is at 160 now, but when he fought at 154 a few years ago, he was deadly. - esofthub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2theblooms,
How about Marvelous Marvin Hagler? I thought he was great in his prime--sort of like Hopkins was in his prime (unbeatable). - ppeak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1(Floyd Jr.) is the best pound-for-pound fighter out there, but out of respect, I'd have to sit down and discuss it with Floyd Sr. because he's my trainer and he's [Mayweather’s] father(De La Hoya)

http://www.siamaffiliate.com/ - esofthub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, it was closer than I expected (majority decision) but my predicted winner was the same -- Mayweather. Frankly speaking, I was surprised that De La Hoya was able to keep up. Mayweather is an amazing fighter and his defensive skills and footwork were showcased against a bigger fighter. One thing I noticed, when Ocar got him cornered (bullrushed), Floyd had some trouble on the ropes and in the corners (can't use that footspeed). De La Hoya was crotched for some of the rounds (inviting the jab). Bottom line, Floyd backed up the smack.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People must remember that Floyd is stepping up (yet again) to a higher weight class. This makes a tremendous difference. Especially in that Floyd has not fought a true contender since he was a lightweight (130 lbs) and fought JL Castillo twice, he won both fights but the first one was about as close as it gets and really could have gone either way.
Look for Oscar to punish him in the middle to late rounds and win by a majority decision. - esofthub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ppeak,
Oscar said those comments recently? - esofthub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Have the two camps talked about terms yet? I think the money involved in this fight is going to be outrageous!
I wonder what Floyd's father is thinking about now? - theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, Marvelous Marvin Hagler was a tremendous fighter. I should have put him in there as well. Hagler in his prime would have taken Mayweather.
- esofthub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just got done watching the Ouma vs Taylor fight. It went the distance in Taylor's favor (unanimous). I can't believe that Bernard Hopkins lost to this guy (Taylor) -- twice no less. Ouma wasn't spectacular, but he did keep up the pressure on the noticeably bigger Taylor. Oscar should consider fighting Taylor in the near future. I think he would knock him out.
- softnayr, on 08/11/2009, -0/+1another big fight is about to begin. cotto vs pacquiao, watch it live here:
http://ryed.info/Manny-Pacquiao-vs-Miguel-Cotto-Fr ... - SteveChisnall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not a boxing fan but I STILL dugg this for one particular reason. I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which is Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s hometown. I'm neither proud nor ashamed to be from his hometown, but I feel a sort of interest when someone from the same hometown as me is mentioned in the news.
- esofthub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cool...thanks quars for providing the link
- Jimmerz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If Gomi were to fight either of these guys using the rules of boxing it is he who would get methodically picked to shreds. It's a silly comparison. I enjoy both boxing and MMA, and there is room for both.
Look forward to the fight, like both guys, and will be pulling for De La Hoya. - esofthub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You're right. Boxing has definitely taken a hit (interest level), especially amongst the heavyweight ranks.
Who are the heavyweight champs anyways? Who cares...yawn - xr56n44, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1letttttttttttttttttttttsss get ready to rumble.... about time we had a legitimate fight instead of belt holders fighting the bum of the month
- w0rdie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As much as I used to loath De La Hoya (because I felt like he ran to win) I'm calling for him to K.O. Floyd late in the fight. The extra weight and the underestimation of Oscar will be what leads to him finding himself on the canvas.
We're betting on it over at http://forums.liquidinsanity.com -- anyone interested is welcome. - esofthub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Matic paints a vivid picture. I agree, the guy is all fluid.
- wadexyz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This fight is good for a sport that has serious respiratory failure. But May?? WTF??? Couldn't they put the fight together a bit sooner??
- drilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think (and hope) it will be close - mostly because I want to see a good fight. Mayweather is fast...but like JoseBrazil said perhaps the weight gain will slow him down. Plus, De La Hoya has had plenty of time to study Mayweather's style. Anyway, it will definitely be worth the 50 bucks to buy it on Pay-Per-View.
- DatDudeWiggs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is one of the biggest fights ever!! Too bad this is the oldest story ever to make the front page(news of this fight came out monday)
- JoseBrazil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No mention of whether Floyd's Dad will still be in De La Hoya's corner for this fight. If he is, I can't imagine his wife will be speaking to him for a while.
- quars, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I remember Floyd Mayweather Sr. commented before De la Hoya's last fight that he would definitely be in De La Hoya's corner if De la Hoya fought Mayweather Jr., especially cause his son was so disrespectful when he fired him.
Here's the story:
http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=6192&more=1 - esofthub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I agree that Mayweather is faster than De La Hoya. Hands down. I just don't think Oscar will be able to get solid shots at him. Mayweather is one crafty moving target. Of course, if Mayweather decides to slug it out, then it's game over for Floyd. But why would he...
I'm hoping to see the fight but living in Korea might be a problem. Although I did see Mayorga and De La Hoya live. - icejaguar, on 03/19/2008, -0/+0Merchant shouldn't have to worry about a post-fight interview after Pretty Boy beats down De La Hoya.
http://shop.newmirror.com - MalachiConstant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This should be a helluva lot more entertaining than the Mayweather vs. Baldomir fight a few weeks ago. Pretty Boy punched out the post-fight interviewer Larry Merchant more than he did the former champ Baldomir.
It was the most entertaining part of the fight.

Merchant shouldn't have to worry about a post-fight interview after Pretty Boy beats down De La Hoya. - robertshaw56, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0smart money on mayweather
- jes327, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Guys, this is old news. Read your boxing news on Fightnews.com. Updated 24/hr a day.
- Matic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Mayweather is going to spank De La Hoya. Are you kidding me? Mayweather is the best fighter to ever put on gloves. Watching him fight is like watching Picasso paint a masterpiece the same speed a computer render's and draws a video game frame!
- Fallooza, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1whatever. these guys couldnt last 1 minute against Gomi. boxing is dead, long live MMA!
