- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think Alexandre Vinokourov could have easily won Tour de France this year. There were no other heavyweight riders competing in the tour this summer.
- brad77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would've thought that it'd be the other way around. It's really a shame what happened to the Astana (formerly Astana-Wurth) team. All five of Astana's riders were cleared by the Spanish courts just days after the end of the Tour. Here's what happened in the meantime:
1. They lost one of their primary sponsors, Wurth, because they didn't want to support a team associated with doping.
2. Young favorite Alexandre Vinokourov could not race because his team didn't have enough riders.
3. Discovery snatched up one of their riders, Sergio Paulinho.

No formal charges were even filed! It may just be a case of unfortunate timing, but the team has been devastated by it. I hope that they have a strong showing in Spain.
Phonak's being disbanded. I'm surprised to see them participating in a final hurrah. Seeing as they're breaking up because next year's sponsor (iShares) pulled out, I'm surprised that Phonak wants their logo on display. They're pretty touchy about that over there. Didn't the team owner say that he couldn't sell the team for a single Swiss franc? - Maxpower2912, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1I thought Phonak was going to be able to ride, but that the Astana team can ride also is surprising.
