- cheez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+156it's the ebb wave(tide going back out to sea) colliding with the flow wave(tide going into the beach)
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+83No I'm off to Photoshop those kids out. *Dashes off*
- bushawa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+70@raymore - Ah, you must be one of those idiotic teenagers everyone says is on Digg now. I personally thank Cheez for the info. Very informative.

Kinda a dick thing to do, just hotlinking the photo without givin' the guy some credit. Ah well, great photo nonetheless. - JackMiracle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39"Let's go surfing you said. Don't worry it'll be easy you said. The waves aren't that big. Next time I pick the sport!"
- silverfires, on 10/12/2007, -7/+38Impressive - one of those right place at the right time moments. Is there a rock in the middle or something?
- kaywhy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24anyone have any cranberry juice?
- DNordbak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25the similarity being...that it's a wave?
- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21It's also against Flickr's terms of service.
- joeshlub, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17@themastersb
Not that the photoshop job was that hard, but your the man for doing it. It makes a much better wallpaper that way. Thanks - TekeeTakShak, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20Looks like a tree...

Ocean waves are "surface waves" and made of MATTER. You're an idiot. - kavuday, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Cool picture, but definitely not the coolest...
Teahupoo: http://www.ferket.com/jvlt/images/teahupoo_1.jpg - waveman216, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Actually water waves do collide. SWELLS pass through one another.
This looks like Sandy Beach on the South Shore of Oahu. I could be wrong.
And it's backwash, not an ebb tide. When a wave runs up a steep shore and then runs back to the ocean pretty quickly it can make another small wave heading back out to sea.
Do a search for "wedge" to find more pics like this. - TDR25, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10What a deceptive title. Nice wave, but definitely not the best I've seen.
- Reaganomicon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Love it. Nature is wonderful.
- piesforyou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It only works because these are shallow water waves. Swell waves pass through each other because the water is deep enough for superposition to work well. In shallow water (depth < lambda/2) the seabed reflects the energy. The only place the water can go is UP!
- captainpete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Hippie ;)
- ig33k010011, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6it looks like..... broccoli

Not all the teenagers on Digg are idiots. It's just a good half of them that give the rest of us a bad name. Trust me, I hate them even more than you do. - JoeForGovernor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If swimmers were cropped out it would make a even better desktop.
- deuceswilde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"This is the most awesome picture of a wave I've seen in a long time."
How many wave pictures do you look at on a daily basis? - YankeesSuck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Title:

When did a "long time" become "Ever"? - captainpete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How do you think this guy felt?

http://earthsworld.com/2007/070102/source/crw_9927.html - farkedup7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hi PrincessLittle...thanks for posting this image. Can you please change the link to the main flickr page for this image? www.flickr.com/photos/acastellano/181730235
It is against flickr policy to use a flickr image elsewhere without linking back to the flickr page for that photo. More importantly, it's nicer if the author of the image gets credit for his photo.
Thanks,
-the Author - ledpamster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Has anyone noticed that this was posted in the "other sports" category?

- jmcrane, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@isotope, sephiroth965
Superposition does work with mechanical waves as well as EM waves - think of acoustic noise cancellation as an example of mechanical wave cancellation. However, isotope, cancellation only works if they are out of phase, which obviously, the waves could not be, as the shore prevents it... Maybe you should think before spouting off the crap you just learned in physics class to incorrectly make a fool of someone. - mikelyons, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2this is the wedge in newport beach
