- znachtman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Who won the 2006 tour again? Oh wait... still TBA.
- cekim, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5http://tourdefrancedog.ytmnd.com/ - the real winner.
- skippay, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Disaster. Cycling's entered a realm where guilty upon accusation's the norm. Liggett and Sherwin's support of such a scenario made me wanna puke, and I like those guys.
I feel bad for the riders, subjected to french lab whimsy. I feel bad for Contador who attacked and attacked and earned the win that will forever carry an unfortunate, indelible asterisk.
But I think what's really sad is that so many other people turn a blind eye to sports that aren't taking doping seriously. They, through their support, have the blood of the athletes who'll suffer on their hands. - kenyarambee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Apparently he broke internal team rules. The Tour did not boot him, Rabobank, his team sponsor, fired him. The Tour only removed riders that failed anti-doping tests.
- HonkyHonk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Michael had received his *punisment* for breaking the Rabobanks rules (a fine of €10.000).
The Tour management actually pressured Rabobank to remove Rasmussen from the race.
Michael has never been tested positive for doping - ever.
I agree with Prohest - Michael got robbed his chance of winning the Tour. - chilidawg87, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1People have been cheating since the sport began. In 1903 someone took their bike on a train to get to the finish faster. Just cause someone cheated doesn't mean the sport is ruined. Move on. Be positive
- in2deep, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1this sucks because it seems like every sport is dirty these days!
- ericdano, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2It's an endurance race. It is a team sport. These guys should be respected. Unlike Baseball "athletes"......I doubt any of them could do one stage of the Tour
- ezkash, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1Lance Armstrong anyone? http://bovave.info
- znachtman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1True, Barry Bonds almost certainly used steroids... kind of makes you wonder how long this stuff has been going on. Anabolic steroids have been around since the 1930s. If Arnold Schwarzenegger used them during the 70s, who is to say they weren't being used by baseball players during the 1970s? Certainly, they were being used in the 1980s. If steroids have been in use for the last 30+ years... and according to Jose Canseco and Ken Caminiti... steroids were being used by over 50% of baseball players. Why should Barry Bonds be punished? Yeah, he's a jerk... but his statistics cannot be entirely irrelevant.
- syntex, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That's because the whole competition is rigged. Team secretely bid for the yellow jersey, and the only the highest bidder can wear it and win.
Aliens are of course part of the conspiracy and take the DNA of the winner for future sampling. - pogfreak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Jesus christ how deep does this rabbit hole go?!!?
- gamer31, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1The yellow jersey is given to the racer that was in the lead at the end of the last leg. So yeah, if the guy in the yellow jersey had a 20 minute start on the other guys, I'm sure he would win...
- auxide, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3yay, australia comes second!:D
- 666dorado, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2it's all relative. i say the best way to level the playing field is just let everyone do steroids and be done with it.
- chazoo12, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Why is doping in cycling a bigger cheat than baseball? Cycling the Tour de France is about will power and pain. 2200 miles in 3 weeks? That seems tortuous to me. I could never do it without drugs! How can drugs help a baseball player more than a little strength. So you get more homeruns but you still have to hit the ball and no drug I know of is going to help you much with that. When they come out with a drug that gives you perfect coordination, that's when Baseball will blow the whistle.
- leprix, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1"I mean, how on earth can someone accelerate so quickly just before the end of a steep alpine stage yet not break a sweat at the end?"
If you actually watched the stage where Rasmussen exploded in the last 1km up the mountains, you would have seen that Contador had cracked and was dropped like a sack of hammers, hence being passed by Levi at the end. You dont crack if youre doping, you ride like Rasmussen. - jawadde, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2while it would level the playing field, it would also send a message to children with a talent for sport that it is OK to go beyond your body limits. You would teach the next generation that the only way to win is by having a better doctor, not by having more talent or dedication. The results after 20 years of fully-accepted doping would be desastrous. Major props for the Tour-de-France organisation for NOT doing what you and a large portion of the audience says.
- chazoo12, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I smoke a little and that is my choice. Athletes doping to improve performance are called cheaters because they take an unfair advantage over competitors who choose not to risk their longterm health. I think the key is risk to health. If I risk my health without gaining an advantage over others, that's my choice. When athletes do it they cheat.
- insanebrain, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1nope . .these days it's called 'Tour de Dope'
- Anrkist, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1No one has ever cared about guys wearing tights on bicycles.
- Dolken, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Well they only fired him because the The Tour organizers put pressure on them to do so, after realizing that he could actually win the whole thing (something most "expert" wouldn't have counted on before the Tour's start)...The facts still remain: Rasmussen was tested 14 times during the 16 stages he rode, and nothing was found. If you want to fire or dismiss someone on hear-say or rumorers, Armstrong shouldn't have started one single TF, let alone won them, but seeing as he's from a much large viewing- and markting-base they'd never do that. It's a money thing, as always...
- hazri, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Way to highlight on drug problem and not on the winner.
If Lance Amstrong had competed and won, the tone of the article would have been different - Cherubim, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1They don't use steroids you dill. They use homologous blood doping or EPO.
- Cherubim, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1The Tour de France is a big farce. Practically all the riders are doping and blatantly lying about their views on being "clean". Contraband contador is a cheat and so is the whole Discovery channel team. I mean, how on earth can someone accelerate so quickly just before the end of a steep alpine stage yet not break a sweat at the end ? Do they think people won't notice ?
- nkm82, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2I pity the fool who does drugs.
-Mr T. - stevencon, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2it was an exciting one though.
i wish Levi would have won though - pogfreak, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2Anyone ever notice that its always the person wearing a yellow jersey that wins? Coincidence?.... I think not!!!
- Prohest, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1Michael Rasmussen won the Tour !!!
Booting him was a ***** outrage. You cant kick people out for being suscept. He did nothing wrong, broke no rules and was clearly the best rider.
The Tour de Pression is dead. Those piece of ***** french ***** will ***** up all good things.
Michael Rasmussen FTW!!! - stevencon, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1hahaha its a consiracy created by the gay mafia.... aka the french
- ArenaRon, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1I didn't even know they were racing until it finished, I guess no one cares any more. With all the doping in cycling could this also be the future of a doping baseball *cough* bonds *cough*?
- BloKKem, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1There's still a Tour de France?
