we still a long way to go :-( - erejection, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1They made $600 million profit in their last fiscal period of 2003-2006.
- OfF3nSiV3, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5WTF, 29. Joseph S. Blatter (President, FIFA)..29?!
He rules over the 208-member soccer federation and the World Cup, which is viewed by more than a billion people.
The World Cup is the most viewed sports event after the Olympics. He rules world football and he's only 29?! what kind of list is this? - ezkash, on 03/10/2008, -0/+1No MJ? http://kdkl.menew.whyi.org

- cooksie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Agreed nwave - this list is an affront to the real world of sport.
- Jeffler, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Bettman should be #1. He has the power to turn good stuff into *****.
- erejection, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1He is known for running the FIFA in a dictatorial style which makes him the most powerfull man in the game. A game with an estimated fan base of 3.5 billion..
- frostedflakes, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2"Sports play a societal role in engendering jingoist and chauvinist attitudes. They're designed to organize a community to be committed to their gladiators." - Noam Chomsky

http://gallery.merkaz.net/index-30 - Mak7UPyours4433, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1this list is not that good, i mean the WNBA commish is on this list, albeit at 100, but there are a lot more influential ppl in the sportsworld then her
- AlexClewes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0FIFA doesn't make money. It's a federation, not a business.
Seriously, if FIFA said all goalposts need to be 1m wider, more people would be crying out throughout the world than if the required specs for a baseball bat would change. - plethorex, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3The list: http://www.businessweek.com/table/07/0926_power100 ...
- JediPrime, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Number of viewers does not equal power. Money and control of that money equals power. How much money does FIFA generate and how much power does Joseph S. Blatter truly have over the global organization of FIFA?
- Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -2/+1I'll give you Blatter and Beckham, but as for the others:
32. A toss up. Most doping centers around baseball, the Olympics, and cycling. Baseball is American and Floyd Landis was stripped of his Tour de France title due to doping.
35. An American who didn't compete in any other cycling competitions. Europeans are into more than just the Tour de France.
2. An American playing a sport followed most closely in America.
22. Adidas is certainly worldwide (and yes, based in Germany) but I bet a good portion of their sales related to pro sports (authentic jerseys, etc) are in the US.
23. An American sport. The rest of the world does F1 and the like.
24. An American telecom corporation.
Maybe singling out "football, baseball, and basketball" was a little too narrow, but the entire list of 100 has only two non-American-centric items (and Beckham plays in the US, so one-and-a-half). I'm American, btw. - jspegele, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2I wouldn't say soccer is huge in Europe or South America. Football is though.
