When I was 10, my uncle ran a bull riding school, and I tagged along, learning to ride the smaller versions (steers) in the kid circuit. One rodeo, I thought I would be cool and hang out behind the chutes with my big brother. This is the backstage where all the cowboys rosin up their rigs and get ready for the ride.
Had I been paying attention to the commotion going on to my right, I would have realized that a very large bull by the name of "boxcar" (who had one nasty reputation...no one liked drawing his name) broke out of the chute and actually jumped into the area behind the chutes where everyone was.
The last thing I remember before waking up in the hospital was yelling, then turning to the direction of the noise...then nothing. Onlookers say the bull got me between his horns and threw me 10 feet right up against a metal fence....then ran straight over me. Apparently I was pale white, and most people feared I was dead.
I woke up in the hospital with one nasty concussion and a bruise on my leg in the shape of a hoof.
That was the end of my rodeo career. - philzone, on 01/07/2009, -0/+4I went to a rodeo once. What I found strange was every bull ride was accompanied by heavy metal music. Metallica, Ozzy, AC/DC, etc. Seven seconds of Crazy Train, then wait around for the next ride. The monkey riding the sheep was just as entertaining.
