- fenixconnektion, on 05/05/2009, -0/+10Running for Congress in 2010? Again?
I'm Filipino and he's the last person I would want to see as a Philippine Congressman. The reason the Philippine government is so inadequate and incapable of making any positive reforms is because of nepotism and the extremely stupid habit of electing celebrities to office. And the sad fact is, the celebrities win based on their popularity and not the platform they are running on. We don't need any more unqualified government officials, we need people who can bring economic growth to the nation.
Manny: You've brought much pride to the Philippine nation and your achievements in boxing will no doubt be known for many many years. But you belong in the ring, not in Congress. - RatatRatR, on 05/05/2009, -0/+8I'm sure if you contact his people, he'd let you get in the ring and kick his ass to show the world what a pussy he is.
- thenativeraver, on 05/05/2009, -1/+9I've been a fan since I first saw him fight. you don't ***** with the pacman
- inactive, on 05/05/2009, -0/+7that was one of the most brutal KOs I ever saw.

- broh, on 05/05/2009, -0/+5Pac-man would murder Mayweather.
- ShannonGB, on 05/05/2009, -0/+5Pacquiao and Batista as a tag team in WWE would be epic. McMahon if you're listening, make it happen!
- daimposter, on 05/05/2009, -0/+5Manny is the best fighter that's exciting to watch since Roy Jones Jr in the 90's. In this decade, the other boxers that are great have been typically boring. Mayweather, Winky Wright, Hopkins, etc. They all play very defensive styles that bore you to death. Manny is the most exciting boxer in over a decade and is also now the best pound for pound fighter.
here's a little tid bit. since he lost to Erik Morales in their first match up, Manny has won 10 straight fight. Of those, 7 were TKO's or Ko's (hatton, dela hoya, morales twice), 2 were VERY lobsided wins (incl. barrera) and one close win. That's 9 easy fights against mostly good boxers.
He still has the possibility of fighting the winner of Mayweather and Juan Manual Marquez, cotto, shane mosley, etc. If he can fights at least 2 of those boxers and wins, he should probably retire since he would have nothing left to prove. - harrisbradley, on 05/05/2009, -0/+5When he fights Mayweather Jr. that will be the fight of the century and the decision of who is the greatest (IMHO)
- walgman, on 05/05/2009, -0/+5He is awesome. To make a great boxer like Hatton look absolutely ***** is ***** amazing. Can't wait to see him fight Floyd.
- itsmikey, on 05/05/2009, -0/+5Watching Pacquiao dissect Hatton was stunning. The guy is a tremendous athlete, a prodigious boxer, and a real reason to be excited about the future of the boxing spectacle. What else is there to say? I hope he delays his political career.
- kplo, on 05/05/2009, -1/+5It's the smile, I just have to root for the guy.
- INDOAZZ, on 05/05/2009, -1/+5Manny Pacquiao #1 pound for pound!
- pitdog, on 05/05/2009, -1/+5I like Manny. Great man, and an incredible fighter. He could beat Mayweather Jr. Especially, if Jr. was trained by senior lol
- ShannonGB, on 05/05/2009, -3/+6He's truly one of the greats, if not the greatest. A living proof that hard work and values still matter in this world. Don't change Manny!
- smurfjoe, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3He better lose in the 2010 elections too. I can't imagine a world without Pacquiao in the ring.
- pitdog, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2well, of course Jr. can try just stall him, bear hug him all the time and have judges on his side, like in his fight with Hatton
- camaroz06, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2Filipinos PorTW (FTW)!!
- daimposter, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2too soon to talk about retirement. he's still getting better. Let's start talking once you see the first sign of aging or when there is no one left to fight.
- caution, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2I I don't think he's *really* going to run for president in the RP.
But, he is an amazing boxer! - drastik21, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2I was pretty surprised to see Dave Bautista walk in with him, kinda was hoping he jumped in the ring.
- mcmerk, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2i kinda hope he retires soon at the peak of his career so i never have to see him fade like so many boxers do like Roy Jones, but it would be sad to never see him box again since he's the only boxing career i follow
- mcmerk, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2well the article mentions him retiring soon, and i heard from other sources that he is almost done as well
id rather him retire at the top than see him decline in skill
i just hope he fights Mayweather to show he is truly the p4p king or Marquez to cement that he is definitely better since the previous fights could have gone either way - jotjot, on 05/06/2009, -0/+2He's humble too.
- daimposter, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2i hate when people say 'he should retire on top'. I think that only applies if you have nothing left to prove and/or you are already up there in age. In his case, he still can fight other big names and he's only 30 yrs old.
Roy Jones Jr fighting Tarver three times and Glen Johnson was a mistake. As soon as he had that first close fight against Tarver, he should have retired. Tarver was a nobody and there were no big names in his weight class. To continue to fight after that is just pitiful.
I hated that Jordan retired the first time (if you don't take into account his dad died). I hate that Joe Calzaghe retired recently when he still had other big fights, though he was up there in age. Same with Floyd Maywather (who's back).
if hopkins had retired after beating De La Hoya, we wouldn't see some of his best fights ever. - Rhythmix, on 05/08/2009, -0/+2FTA: Under Philippines law, the army will come to Pacquiao's aid if his family is in danger.
Holy *****, he even has the army behind him. I wouldn't mess with the dude. - icko21, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2next thing you know the big show will be in Mayweather's side on the (hopefully) pacquiao vs mayweather
- roaddc, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2
It's not just really retiring while he's on top. Freddie Roach is advising him to retire soon based on his experience. Roach has Parkinson's disease which boxers are susceptible to.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/05/sports/otherspor ...
"Roach said he was not sure if the punches he absorbed late in his career made any more of an impact on his condition than those from earlier bouts. His trainer, Eddie Futch, a renowned corner man, “called me into his office and told me to retire,” he said, “He told me to retire, but I said no. I was 27, I thought I could still fight, so I fought five more times and lost four.” - damack, on 05/06/2009, -0/+24 consecutive wins in 4 different weightclasses and a record tying 6 championships in 6 different weight divisions says he's not too shabby.
He's giving guys like Duran and De La Hoya a run for their money who were multi weight class legends. People equate popularity with greatness but the greatest fighters were little known yet defeated multiple world class opponents across many divisions.
Greatest is a difficult argument to make considering boxing is a clash of styles rather than a way of measuring how great you are so he may be able to defeat some great fighters but maybe some not-so great fighters would be able to defeat him but theres no doubt he's carved his name into history with what hes accomplished. - HulkPI, on 05/06/2009, -0/+2There is a connection. Dave Bautista is Half Filipino(half Greek)
- softnayr, on 08/11/2009, -0/+1another big fight is here:
http://ryed.info/Manny-Pacquiao-vs-Miguel-Cotto-Fr ... - chamorro, on 05/26/2009, -0/+0Bring on Mayweather.
- ShannonGB, on 05/05/2009, -1/+1Uh wait, don't tempt him... it might just happen.
- usttag, on 05/06/2009, -0/+0Manny kicks major ass but I'm biased towards Cotto.. :/ / I'd love to see them fight but I don't think Cotto should.
- SpeedStix, on 05/05/2009, -3/+3Pacquiao 4 President!
Anyone see his fight vs Hatton...so disappointing. I knew he was going to win but so quick?
An amazing boxer. - antistupid, on 05/05/2009, -3/+3great? yes. greatest? far from it (unless you're talking about filipinos and not boxers).
- phpadik, on 05/05/2009, -0/+0When Pacquiao ran for a congressional seat last 2007, our whole family was hoping he won't win. Everyone thought everyone was dumb to vote for him just because of his popularity, but we were all wrong. He lost and it was a landslide.
Anyway, Manny's story is very inspiring! :D - SuperOmegaSlack, on 05/05/2009, -4/+1Doubt that very much... But that's a fight I would love to see!
- 4NDr01D, on 05/05/2009, -12/+1he's no Lennox Lewis
or Mike Tyson for that matter
we need heavy weight fighters
not some feather weight punching bags
