- TheEngineer2008, on 11/21/2008, -3/+16Funny how international athletics, which some purists would have us think are the "true" sporting events, feature the only two instances of intentional ref interference on the list -- the "loss" of the '72 USA men's basketball team and Roy Jones' loss.
- garyi113, on 11/21/2008, -0/+10My GAWD they left out #1 - Bottlegate
http://thenosebleedsblog.blogspot.com/2008/08/bott ... - JackpotCity, on 11/21/2008, -3/+13What amazes me is that with Football you can have so many referees and still arrive at a bum decision, it's something I have never fully understood.
- cluckinchicken, on 11/21/2008, -0/+9the ol' Hand of God. Priceless. Tried it several times, only to be denied.
- NaziHatinChimp, on 11/21/2008, -1/+10No Oklahoma-Oregon? That is the biggest blown call ever.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -3/+11"of All Time"
*sees Polamlu's garbage TD play from last week on the list*
lolwut - voldron, on 11/21/2008, -2/+913) Commenting on digg, the internet referees
- itsJALbert, on 11/21/2008, -1/+8For all the bad calls against the Steelers, I have to bring up Super Bowl XL as a counterpoint. Not blaming the Steelers for the crap officiating, but it was one of the worst called games I've seen. Highlight? Matt Hasselbeck is called for clipping when the the other team has the ball.
- EvilCan, on 11/21/2008, -0/+6How about *insert marginally bad call against my team*.
That ***** ref should be fired!!!!!1 - argaen21, on 11/21/2008, -0/+6so the "international" athletics of the world cup, which has the number one slot on this list, doesn't count?
oh and, also, i just have to throw in a baseball sucks statement in here. - FeartheKnighted, on 11/21/2008, -0/+6This list is horrible. I've seen worse calls just in college football the last 5 years.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -1/+6We (USA) were so screwed over in the '72 Olympics against the Soviet Union.
Maybe they'd like to throw it in one more time, just to be sure and all.
However, it is worth noting that the Soviet Union put on an excellent game in the beginning until we got them to play at our pace. - MagMan68Classic, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4The one that didn't really effect the outcome of the game, but rather the spread, something that doesn't really matter to the guys on the field
- jon31rm, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4The shot should not have counted. It occurred a full second after the on-the-floor foul (made even more obvious by the fact that it did not affect the late shot). The referee who blew the late whistle admitted to the mistake after the game.
- asgardshill, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4To be fair, NFL Films called them that, NOT the Cowboys themselves.
- mauriceh, on 11/21/2008, -1/+5Huh? What are YOU smoking?
It was a wrong call. An OBViOUS wrong call.
7 earlier goals had been recalled in that series, due to some part or all of the attacking player being in the blue ice goal crease area.
What was clearly apparent to anyone was that the NHL had already decided the outcome of this series long before it was played.
That goal was the last of a quite long series of one sided and often blatant "errors"
Dallas should not have even been in that series.
They won their second series on the strength of 6 seconds being added to the clock in game 2.
Even though the clock only had 5 seconds on it before the ensuing play!
They scored in that 6 seconds. - Coffeedemon, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4They had Hull's foot in the crease but they missed the non-call on Gretzkey when he drew blood on Doug Gilmour but was not assessed the penalty. G then went on to score the game winner and LA took on the Canadiens for the Stanley Cup.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4Because ***** happen FAST, and its a very complex game.
- bonius, on 11/21/2008, -1/+4Dugg for '72
- Podunkparte, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3How about Hasselbeck's clipping penalty? News to me that tackling the guy with the ball is clipping. Was that call close EvilCan? That game was a joke. Bogus holding calls, BS Off PI. The points it gave to the Steelers and took away from the Seahawks obviously influenced the outcome of the game. I don't care if people keep saying shut up and stop whining. They stole the chance of winning the game from SEA.
- deadapostle, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3Too many chefs
- Poochyfud, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3The O's have sucked ever since that call too...
Why have we been forsaken!? - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -1/+4Nobody likes the Cowboys. And who decided they were "America's Team" anyway?
- deadapostle, on 11/21/2008, -1/+4Funny, I counted 4 (5 if you think of Hockey as a Canadian sport). Also, this is a foxsports list. Clearly whoever compiled the list is an American. I don't see any cricket calls in there, but I'm sure if this was done by an Australian I would.
- EvilCan, on 11/21/2008, -1/+4Super Bowl XL was not one of the worst officiated games of all time. Sure, every close call went the Steelers way, but every call was close not cut and dry.
- JerichoKS, on 11/21/2008, -1/+4Funny how the recent Steeler's game is listed but none of the other horrible calls that have been in the NFL over the years.
- woofers07, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3Yeah, he was TACKLING THE GUY WITH THE BALL, and got called for clipping. Great now I'm angry.
- callmethekow, on 11/21/2008, -1/+4 you know it was illegal, and if brett hull wasn't sucking off bettman, the world's greatest commissioner in all of sports, in his free time that call would have been made correctly. I'm not going to say the Sabres would have won the Cup that year, but its hard to win a championship with calls like that being made
- bca102, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3How about the fact that the final score was 38-28. How could there be a last second touchdown to win?
- fxu1989, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mU7yhV9U2A
- MagMan68Classic, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3and each referee has their own assignment. You think all 6 of them are watching the ball? They each have their own zone to watch
- fourty_two, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2The refs just skated around for five minutes and said "no penalty".
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2because that was one of the few good calls in that game. the officials missed two holds and a completed pass on a single player during osu's 3rd down with 2:30 left in the game, which would've put osu in place to run the clock out. the game shouldn't have gone to OT to begin with.
the two reasons why anyone would think that was a "bad call":
1.that is what commentator dan fouts repeated based on his limited access to the replays that the network decided to replay, none of which showed the hold before the endzone, while the ball was in the air.
2.the lateness of the flag.

http://buckeyefansonly.com/notcalled.html - toefinder, on 11/21/2008, -1/+3no blown call (sd vs pittsburg) point shaving pure and simple. the nfl is a farce.
- woofers07, on 11/21/2008, -2/+4Really? Take a closer look, those bad calls cost the Seahawks 10 possibly 14 points at least and gave the Steelers 7. And it wasn't a single call, it was multiple, offensive PI cost them a TD led to a FG, phantom holding call negated first and goal led to an INT which then led to a Steeler TD, and giving rothlisberger the TD when he didn't cross the goal line. I could go on.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -1/+3Looks like he was pretty clearly fouled.
- brendonsmall, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2me too. that one was a heart breaker :(
- obliviousfool, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Glad they got that one in there. These lists tend to be entirely American things.
- cluckinchicken, on 11/21/2008, -1/+3Here' s a glass. Can I offer you more whine?
Go Broncos! - oracle1, on 11/21/2008, -3/+52006 Rose Bowl - Vince Young's knee clearly down but he pitches the ball and score their first touchdown and ultimately win the game by, if they had ruled the play correctly it would have been 4th down at the 11 , they showed the replay 20 times on tv and on the jumbotron at the game and everyone in the world saw VY's knee down yet they never reviewed the play.
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/8108/vincedown9 ... - PlackSlayer, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Sooners/Ducks biggest blown call ever. No question.
- SirPsycho, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Sorry, but it was a blown call. He touched the ball with his non-throwing hand after he pulled it down. The Tuck rule is for the QB dropping the ball while tucking it, once it has been tucked as it clearly was in this case, it's a fumble.
- SirPsycho, on 11/21/2008, -2/+4Hull's goal was legit, the call was consistent with the way it was called all year.
What about Brady's fumble against the Raiders in the playoffs that was inexplicably called an incomplete pass after a review. Cost the Raiders the game and New England won the Super Bowl, doesn't get much bigger than that. - sandiegodude, on 11/21/2008, -1/+3*grumble grumble grumble* bad ref calls against San Diego vs. Denver this season. Worst part is having a Bronco's fan for a buddy who constantly rubs it in that their team is leading the division... Funny thing is, that bad call was the 2nd bad call of the game.
Blah! - SpeedyG, on 11/22/2008, -0/+26 referees have to watch 22 players, the ball, and the sidelines. Plays take 10 seconds, tops, and that it takes a few tenths of a second to blink.
- jahurt, on 11/21/2008, -3/+5No Superbowl XL??
- TheEngineer2008, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Again....talking about intentional calls (i.e., cheating).
- Vagari, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2I had a perfect opportunity in my coed game this week. Sadly I tried to use my head and just took out the keeper.
- TheEngineer2008, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2It counts, but it wasn't intentional.
