- iashraf, on 10/11/2007, -3/+104This isn't drifting - drifting is when the wheel is still turning - much like a power slide. What he's doing on the bike is simply SKIDDING.
- SpockGuy, on 10/11/2007, -4/+80Anyone else find the slow motion annoying?
- NathanLaan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+65The basket on the front really sells it :-)
- MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -0/+65Thank God every drift was repeated in slow mo. I needed time regain composure from such an amazing sight before the next fantastic drift.
- Ocelot13, on 10/11/2007, -0/+64no...this is bicycle drifting
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Coj2wfPouuk - Frozo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21How often do you think he goes through tires driving a bike like an ass? (Props for difficulty factor, but cmon).
- Fett07, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15Didn't every kid do this after the snow melted and the sand they put down on it was piled up next to the storm drain?
- Nethid, on 10/11/2007, -11/+21I can't wait until he falls and looks like a ass in front of everyone.
- OneAndOnlySnob, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Every time something comes out of Japan, I think, "THIS is the most useless skill someone could have." But the Japanese always surprise me and come up with something more useless. That is why I love them.
- mrbad, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6or rolls into traffic
- compuclean, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6At least he doesn't have a huge carbon footprint...
- Krovvy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5It's actually not that difficult. I use to do it when I was a kid and yes a POS is a requirment or at least that's the only bike that it worked well on for me.
- sonicomega, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5how would you prefer to see a drift on something with no engine?
- Stimpy-, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5You think that's great? I can almost do a wheelie!
- j0nheck, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4It's not a POS bike—Fixies FTW!
- saleem, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4yup, there was always sand at the corners of the streets.... could do some 180s and cool skids (for a 10-yr old) on those bikes with skid brakes (i.e. pedal backwards)
- takeda, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I was doing this when i was a kid, is not that hard.
Maybe on asphalt is a bit harder, because there's more friction, but he just need to increase his speed. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4***** snakers.
- merrickx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I used to be the only I guy I knew who could do this through turns on my 125 when I was younger. I never understood why people always put their foot down. I guess I just got used to it young. Never race with your ass on the seat.
- dinobot, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Dorifto!
- Jumboto, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3dugg up for the use of SKIDDING.
that's what i used to call it when I had a bike when I was like 8 or so. - DoomMusic, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5He allows his rear wheel to lose traction and controls the bike from the front. You can see the whole frame kind of whip around when the real wheel regains traction. This generally only works on smaller bikes and slick roads, try that on a motorcycle and you're going to die.
Still, that's pretty neat. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That looks like a single-speed with a coaster/hub brake, not a fixie. I can't really put my finger on exactly what it is, but something about it just doesn't look right for a fixie skid. Here's a fixie skid competition to compare it with: http://youtube.com/watch?v=VGqWf6ljBQA
Plus, I don't know many fixie riders that would adulterate their bike with a basket and/or fenders (*especially* the japanese fixie hipsters, they're real purists about it) But hey, I'm no bike scientist...
But yes, fixies rule. - kablammo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That's a lot of credits at the end there.
- xobecide, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That's a hard trick but with the right roads anyone with a fixed gear bike can lock up their back legs, go into a skid, and experiment skidding in different directions.
- MatttK, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Not to mention the bike is PINK. lol
- RocketSeason, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Its important that every video posted to the web has a slow motion instant replay. In case the viewer missed it the first time, there it is again, only now its slightly slower than the first time you saw it.
- WallyAnti, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I've got a bmx and can pull off a short drift on a turn but wow that's some good stuff. If he's using a bike with a back pedal stop (which I suspect) it is slightly less impressive.
- Yelnik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I like his basket.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I don't know about "anyone". Pulling a skid on a fixie is usually easier said than done; especially if you're doing a controlled skid around a corner. Do-able for certain, but it takes quite a bit practice to get to the point of looking like the kid in this video (and some stout legs, especially for a big heavy bike like the kid in the video has (which I don't think is actually a fixie, but rather has a coaster/hub brake, see one of my other comments...) )
Fixie Forever! - Tredici, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I found the fragmented action replays before the action had even finished especially frustrating.
- Razster, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3So I've been drifting too since I was 5... But I had the back pedal brakes, much easier to 'Drift' - I'm old skewl drifter.
- OckToePoos, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Geez I didn't think that bicycle tires were such a hot and expensive commodity...
- TheFBI, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2His legs are the engine.
- newdigger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3im sure that has happened at least a couple times already
- CaseyWittlinger, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2you said it... now this is real bicycle drifting!
- Psyber1an, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Good thing they cleared the street for him...be a shame if he skidded around a corner into a MACK truck...
...or a baby carriage...Idiocracy is real... - digi2k6, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2yo, that looks like the guy that delivered my chinese food today
no wonder he got here sooo fast. - Niten, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yeah, it really gets me when people provide superfluous "slow motion" by simply repeating a video segment at a reduced framerate... it isn't really adding much detail unless the slow motion video comes from an actual high-speed camera. And even that would be overkill for this video.
- sexybobo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3still better than drifting in a car at least this way he is the only one he is putting in to danger.
- lintmonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2And if there's audio, make sure it's included in slow-mo as well. NIIIIIINNNNTEEEENNNNNDOOOOO SSSSIIIIIIXXXXTTTTYYYY-FFFFOOOUUUURRRR!
- Queue29, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2That's not drifting.. that's skidding with style!
.. toy story anyone? - LatvianHedgehog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Japan's small streets are absolutely adorable.
- proghead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2***** JAPANESE!
why must they be the best at everything!? - angrycat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Those asians sure love their drifting.
- zdislaw, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I couldn't say. I never made it past the Star Wars intro.
- zeroroth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I think you are all missing the point, this is REAL Tokyo Drifting!
- xtroutzx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1motogp drifting is so much cooler
http://youtube.com/watch?v=gELHaZIDJqM - Benjin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3why was every shot played at normal speed and then slowed down? even the ones that werent so cool.
- fithanee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I used to do that when i was younger as well i used my friends bike which had really worn out tires. But not as good as the guy in the video though.
