- tatung, on 02/28/2009, -1/+32Maybe you are unfamiliar with climbing but in the video the climb is clearly an 8c+, which is the French grading system corresponding to a 5.14c in North America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grade_%28climbing%29% ... There are VERY few men and even fewer women who can climb at that level in the world. In North America grades below 5.10 do not even have the additional letter to further subdivide each grade. This woman is better than you.
Try to know what you are talking about if you are going criticize someone else.
Edit: Also, pre-hung quickdraws is very common when climbing at the limit. It is known as redpointing (or more specifically pinkpointing). - TekeeTakShak, on 02/28/2009, -4/+29Dugg for d2002 not being the first commenter on his own submission.
- d2002, on 02/28/2009, -0/+19I'll save that for nsfw.digg.com. =)

- skipjenkins, on 02/28/2009, -0/+11I find your capitalization of Wang odd. Not incorrect necessarily, but odd...
- iCallShotgun, on 02/28/2009, -1/+12I'm intimidated by her biceps.

- lepetitmousse, on 02/28/2009, -7/+16so how did they get those camera angles?
- inactive, on 02/28/2009, -0/+8I agree with you and it being a completely legitimate question. And you ***** are wrong, except for nhansen.
It was a crane. Look at 0:35 seconds. You can clearly see the crane in the back. There is no way you could get these shots any other way. The guy swinging back and forth would have been going way too fast, and would have been way too shaky. Even wearing the best steadycam suit there is, it just wouldn't work. - VinnieDaMac, on 02/28/2009, -0/+8Had me at "Girl"

- Valyn, on 02/28/2009, -0/+4Perfect music. Would have been horribly boring without it, or with something less appropriate.
- ItsGus, on 03/01/2009, -0/+4This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fpm0m6bVfrM beats the pants off of that
- lepetitmousse, on 02/28/2009, -5/+9judging by your history of comments, your clearly a raging feminist who needs to learn to shut the ***** up.
no one gives a ***** about your agenda - spaceaudi0, on 02/28/2009, -2/+6Imagine that hand strength.. she'd rip my hand off if we shook.
- inactive, on 02/28/2009, -0/+4Kevin who?
- cliffhanger407, on 02/28/2009, -1/+5So you're comparing someone who can climb a 5.14c to an idiot who gives climbers a bad name and just looks cool because he climbs easy routes without ropes? It's stupid and dangerous even if you're a great climber to do what that guy did. What she did takes incredible skill. Maybe that's why it's "slow".
- SteveIsTheDude, on 03/01/2009, -0/+3Crossmr, I understand from your profile your an Asian fellow... Your last name isn't "Wang" is it?
- tatung, on 02/28/2009, -0/+3This is an example of sport climbing, where bolts have been permanently affixed to the rock using a drill. They are extremely strong and usually maintained by some sort of local climber's coalition. In most cases there is no cause for concern due to equipment failure.
There are other types of climbing such as trad (traditional) climbing where there is no permanently fixed protection, climber's rely on a variety of active and passive protection that they place themselves. - harronoob, on 02/28/2009, -0/+3This reminds me of the stuff at the Banff Film Festival. Check it out if you like great videos and insane sports.
- C4Strife, on 02/28/2009, -1/+4Your loss.
- Slycer, on 02/28/2009, -0/+3Nice to see Slovenian stuff on Digg!

Note to doctressjulia, there is NO SUCH THING as inner-beauty.
Your Mother lied to you. - michael0310, on 02/28/2009, -1/+4My hands are all sweaty now, I don't know if it's because of her or the cliff...
- lazyslacker, on 02/28/2009, -2/+5The music is like something from the SNES era of Final Fantasy games. Dugg.
- cliffhanger407, on 02/28/2009, -2/+5Only an 8c? I've been climbing for 10 years and couldn't come close to touching an 8c. You're thinking of Yosemite Decimal system, not the French system. a 5.8 looks nothing like that route, not even remotely.
Sure, Trad may be more "cool" but sport is just as legitimate. You should really consider making sure you know what you're talking about before you say stupid *****. - cliffhanger407, on 02/28/2009, -0/+3Climbing isn't dangerous when done right. People think it's dangerous because of idiots who climb without ropes or set their protection too far apart from each other.
Speed climbing is certainly an art, but doing what that guy did is dangerous. Climbing a 5.14c is very difficult and there are only a handful of people who can do it in the world. Maybe this guy is one of them. I don't know. All I know is that he's an idiot. What if you slip and cut your hand? What if a rock gets knocked loose? Suddenly "climbing is dangerous" again because this guy climbed without protection, when in reality climbing isn't dangerous as long as you are doing it the way you should be. You're out of your element, Donnie. - cliffhanger407, on 02/28/2009, -0/+3I didn't think the climb was so much newsworthy as the nifty camera work; it was done in a style that you don't usually see. You're a naturalist, that's cool. Placing your own cams is great and all, but sport is a really good way for noobs to get into climbing outdoors. I agree with you that it uglies up the walls and the chick is by no means the best climber out there, but climbing news is rare to come by these days. Relax a little bit :)
I remember when Sharma sent Realization and that was huge news. While there's been other news since then, you can't expect that a social news site is going to know what's "newsworthy" (in your eyes) because so few people actually know anything about the niche market. - DoubleyouTeeEff, on 02/28/2009, -0/+3Inspiring.
Imagine the view and the feeling of accomplishment she must feel after that - EvilJelloMan, on 02/28/2009, -1/+4Frozo it's really common to leave them up for a long time and people do trust it. Some really horrible sport crags have steel quickdraws permanently installed with chains - horrible and ugly! It could also be that she hung them on rappel while working out the moves, or hung them one by one as she was hangdogging her way up the route, then left them up for the 50 zillion more attempts she made before climbing it all the way through.
For those not in the know, redpointing goes like this: You get on the climb and spend most of your time hanging on the rope. You work each move out without doing the rest of the climb in sequence, basically using siege tactics to attack the climb. You rehearse every single move until you remember it better than you remember the last time you had sex, and then you go on the internet and spray about how you "climbed" it.
Climbing starts on the ground and goes to the top, not all this ridiculous working up and down *****. - lepetitmousse, on 02/28/2009, -4/+7so why am i being burried for asking a completely legitimate question?

- NYankee2003, on 02/28/2009, -0/+2anyone know what the music is from/called or if it's original to the vid? sounds similar to part of the BBC's Planet Earth theme, especially the part with the strings, but it's not the same.
