Most americans believe in angels. Also you voted Bush in twice. - BigHungryJoe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+55Oh noes! An American thinks that one of the most played sports in the world doesn't matter. What shall we do?
- treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+49@ pope
While I personally don't find cricket to be too entertaining... let's have a quick look at popular American sports:
American football (or as we call it, Gridiron) - players use soo much padding and protective clothing it's such a pansy sport. Compare it to any real football found in Australia (AFL, NFL etc) and you have a more entertaining game and little to no protective padding.
Baseball - basically an alteration of cricket - trauts, on 10/12/2007, -2/+46WTF......What's an American?
- abryce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36Well I just can't believe Cricket made the front page of digg, Wooooooot!!!!
- numptydumpty, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36@ moonhead
No, I think what you meant to say was that it's the majority who ruin it for the minority!
And I love it when yanks criticise other countries' sports. I mean... Baseball? In the UK we call it rounders and it's played by girls. Basketball? In the UK we call it Netball and it's played by... yes, girls! American Football? In the UK it's called Rugby and we do it without the stupid padded costumes.
:P - Vanda, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32@pope7
For a sport that doesn't matter, im sure that around 80-90,000 people will go to the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) to watch the next match on Boxing Day even though the series has already been won. - daveyt, on 10/12/2007, -9/+37nothing worse than happy aussies.
/bitter pom. - treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32I'd say for a country with only less than 10% the population of America... when it comes to sport, we kinda kick absolute arse! (yours and other countries)
:D
(edit: haha, the comment system doesn't like the 'less than sign') - memphysema, on 10/12/2007, -13/+38Well done boys!
Aussie Aussie Aussie!! Oi Oi Oi!!! - raabco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25did you check your couch cushions?
- moonhead, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23@pope7
I really do try and tolerate Americans but it seems to be the minority that ruin it for the majority (at least i hope that would be an opinion of the minority). - ruprecht, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22Always look on the bright side of life
dadum ... dadum dadum dadum
It just might rain and end your trouble and strife
dadum ... dadum dadum dadum
Always look on the bright side of life
dadum ... dadum dadum dadum
Warney just might not go home with your wife
dadum ... dadum dadum dadum - ruprecht, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23Like it matters - Australia's 2nd XI could have wiped the floor with England this year :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Cricket, it has a Real World series competition with Real Countries from around the globe, unlike the fake world series in the US against the US.
- joshman5k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19You bet that much against Australia?
- beaumont911, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18I love it how the Americans think it an inferior sport because they don't play it. Wait, they think it is inferior because they cant qualify, Scotland took their spot last time, next year it will be Bermuda.
Well done Aussies, but when McGrath and Warne leave, we have a few young guns like Clark, Watson, Tait, MacGill even (not so young), although the English team is still young.
Next Ashes will be a ripper. - Vanda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16The last time Australia played America in cricket was in the 2004 ICC Championships.
USA
Total (all out, 24 overs, 109 mins) 65
Australia
Total (1 wicket, 7.5 overs, 33 mins) 66
I guess this is why America doesnt play much international cricket.

Next time there is some sporting news about say ... NFL, we can all remind you that you are the only country that plays that, and no one else cares about that. - ruprecht, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15wtf? we lost a wicket?
- cursive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16hussey is a legend.
- HUKI365, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Too right mate. Him and Gilchrist were rocking this match.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18You gotta love when England started batting on saturday night with a target of was it 547?
and Lee got LBW, making england 1/0 - FatNerd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14"the most exciting fastest moving game there is"??
Seriously dude, its a great game... but even the most biased cricket fan wouldn't say it's fast moving. - ruprecht, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Yeah, wow the good ol' USA is awesome. I mean, you guys are the world's greatest... um... let me see now.
The best at war. Yeah! Oh wait, Iraq is turning into a bit of a shambles there. Australian and British troops much more highly regarded on the ground.
Let's see... Smarts! of course, you guys have poured so much of your booming economy into education, you clearly... oh. Trail the world in almost every indicator of educational standard. Whoops.
Money making and business! Of course! Except, well... your economy's based on levels of international borrowing that border on insanity. Damn.
Innovation! Oops, nope, that's Asia, not America.
Um...
Quality of life! Yep, got us there, you can get a six-pound steak for less than anywhere in the world. Of course, you also lead the world in obesity and heart disease, how could I forget.
So, basically, it comes down to: the good ol' USA leads the world in two things:
1. Exporting brain-dead television and movie media to the world and
2. Exporting brain-dead evangelical religion to the world.
I feel so inferior. - joshman5k, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14@pope7
To be fair, your sports aren't exactly the most world wide recognized either. - newbietheatre, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17I liked your comment. When Aussies are happy we're a fun bunch.
- PAqui, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I had a question : Is Cricket famous in Australia? I mean do kids play it in the streets like kids play basketball and such here in the US? (honest question, coz i always thought rugby was "the" sport in australia :) Thanks
- abbott75, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12The run out was great too!
- treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17And yet despite Australia's domination in the Ashes test throughout history... we only ever get a cheap replica of the "Ashes" while the real deal stays locked up in some museum in England.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ashes - axman6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11EVERY Aussie kid has a cricket bat. 'nuff said.
- beaumont911, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Yes, in the Summer it is very popular, countrywide. Kids to play it on ovals on the weekends and such.
Rugby is 'the' sport in some of the states (NSW, QLD, ACT, etc), and AFL is the 'the' sport in the other states/territories. - jon26l, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I just lost £300!
- unsliced, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13England are 3-0 down - yes, but that Aussie side has more cracks in it that a 5th day pitch. Flashes of genius made all the difference: Gilchrist finally remembering what his bat is for and that Glenn McGrath over on the fourth day when Cook and Hoggard went were the tipping points.
Ditto in the 2nd test - it all tipped on madness from England, rather than good Aussie play, on the 5th day - when England had been on top for 4 days.
Outclassed? No. Out played for critical portions of the matches (all of the first, one session in the second, half of the third)? Yes.
No-one goes to Australia and gets an easy ride - the teams are a lot closer than the 3-0 scoreline suggests. - slaguru, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Maybe Kflo you should look outside your own country at other world sports eh ???
On the main point, Aus have the best cricket team bar none, BUT, lose McGrath and Warne and it would change (I hope)
Barmy Army - mbradbury, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Come on Ausie come on come on.
- csbu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9kids play cricket in the back yard, rather than the street
you'll only get run over if you play in the street - Caliente, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14In the wise words of the crowd today: If you cant play cricket, you're a pom!
- abbott75, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@slaguru
Ha! have you seen Clark? We also have a few good young spinners to replace Warney. - gervase, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9For anyone who doesn't know jack ***** about cricket (like me):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cricket - axman6, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10That's cool. we don't need that.
Just one quick question, do you remember what the sun looks like?
Or even real sand? (not from a quarry ;) ) - abbott75, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I type this just after I walk inside from a game of street cricket.
YES. It is popular. - uglymike, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11After the bad decisions made by Ponting in the series in the UK where Australia lost the Ashes, he has totally redeemed himself by not making a single wrong decision this series. Good stuff!
- LostTranslation, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8As an American who isn't an *****, nor attempting to belittle the sport of Cricket, please explain to me what creates the excitement of the sport? I don't mean that it isn't, just, the rules and terminology used, like any sport you arn't accustom too, seem quite confusing and they make it hard for someone on the outside to become interested in it. I've read up on Wikipedia about it and played it once or twice in grade school and I understand the basic premise. It just seems like there is quite a bit of depth that scares off us outsiders to the sport and that's what has kept some of us mocking it and/or indifferent to it. I just hope you realize it isn't all "doh, stupid xenophobic American cowboys hate them there sports that we don't understand." Thanks, and gratz to the Aussies.
- neko, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I'm sorry, is he talking about North America or South America? North is... Canada, right? And in the South you have countries like Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and so on.
Oh, you mean that little strip at the bottom of North America, right. Sorry, my geography is terrible. - TheOtherGuy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9poor moonmonkey
It must reeeeeeally suck that you had a good 5 hours to think of something clever to write and that's all you could come up with.
What's next? Grammar corrections? - javip, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I wasn't going to justify your comment with a response... but are you for real? Australia has some of the best scientists in the world just to name one thing
- phuzzy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Well done guys..next: Warne getting 700 wickets and a clean sweep of the series!
Uglymike: I reckon the rain had a crapload to do with the problems in the UK. If there were a couple of tests with 5 full days of cricket, it might have been different. - kloo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7That's the spirit :D
- beaumont911, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Ahahaha, funny.
Although New Zealand is the Oceanic version of Canada. -
