- Metman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42MJ was the reason I started watching basketball. His departure is also the reason I stopped. (Not that I have anything against today's superstars, but they are not Jordon)
- bitt3n, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23that just proves
the world's ain't fair
jesus walked on water
but jordan walked on AIR. - litolist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Where's that beautiful dunk from the free-throw line?
- drpatter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Yep, Jordan made the NBA. Haven't watched ever since he left, and I don't think many people are either.
- bjowoods, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Is there any way for you to not comment ever again?
- Hermitwise, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Every one of those just makes me think he's angry at the basket, so I feel sorry for the baskets.
- NTolerance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Ewing always gets pwnt in these dunk videos.
- illegalchuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12while sweating profusely
- Tonyisbad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13My feelings exactly, i was a huge MJ fan growing up in the 90s, the man could literally walk on air, and he was a pleasure to watch. I wish i had a chance to see him live, but i had to deal with the games aired on NBC. WOW i remember when half the NBA games shows on TV were Chicago bulls games. I loved basketball while he was still in the games, then gave it up when he retired, then came back when he came back those two or 3 times. Just no one now a days sparks my interest like Jordan did, maybe lebron james will, but probably not, there will probably never be anyone as good as Jordan. I remember back in the late 90s Time magazine or Newsweek took a poll and Michael Jordan was the 2nd most popular person in the world next to JESUS! Can you believe that Michael Jordan at that time was only slightly less popular than JESUS CHRIST... Jesus Christ is right, that's insane...
- zzcain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I'm going to assume you meant "Oprah" and not "Opera".....but I agree about the paychecks.
And I will go to my grave saying Air Jordan was the best NBA player ever to....well, just EVER!!! I could watch this video over and over and over again. I can't wait till they start playing more of his games on ESPN Classic! - Radardog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9That was primetime basketball at its best. I miss the days of Jordan.
- threemagic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Being a Piston's fan, I hated him...
Being a basketball fan, I loved him...
With Ben going to the Bulls.. I feel the hatred of the Bulls returning.
That said, Jordan's ability to get off the ground made the game so much easier for him. Did you see how much higher he was then Patrick Ewing??? - JK124, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Jordan was the best. His attitude towards the game, the he played the game and the way he lived it. I believe Jordan brought excitement, enthusiasm to basketball. He always defied odds and always showed that no matter what the circumstances are, if there is a will, there is a way. He was able to drop 44 points even when he was diagnosed with a heavy flu during the finals!
He made a mistake coming back to the wizards where I believe he had lost a lot of credibility on his skills. Due to his old age, he wasn't able to compete with stronger, younger players.
But yes, the young Jordan was the reason why I also watched basketball and after he left, the reason why I stopped.
The new school are also very talented, but just don't provide the same energy that Jordan provided.. - kowgod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I, too, was a huge Bulls fan during the Jordan era (it was hard not to be living in Chicago), and I, too, drifted away after he retired. I think part of it was the attitude Jordan brought to the court and life in general. He always seemed to be about the team first, never himself. Nowadays, too many basketball players seem to see themselves as superstars rather than players on a team. Jordan's humility and easy-goingness are what attracted me to HIS game.
- Metman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7He was a man playing with boys. They would triple team him and he would score 50+. If they were within 2-3 with a few seconsd on the clock, give the ball to MJ and it was almost a sure thing. The only athelete that comes to mind even in the same league is Jerry Rice (who IMO has the best attitude in sports).
- deanlowe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"Jordan is to basketball as God is to earth"
We all know Mike was great but he didn't create basketball. - UncommonSense, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9The NBA could use a facelift. I'm all for changing the traditional Jerry West logo to an edgier Air Jordan logo.
- illegalchuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yeah, that Wizard thing never happened. That's like Bobby Orr playing for the Blackhawks. It's just wrong.
- bigtrouble77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I have to say, the number one dunk is the shiznit.
- kendals, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I remember him on Opera recently with Charles Barkley, and he made a comment to the extent that HE and his colleagues of his time EARNT their 'superstar' salaries, whereas the kids of today just expect to get paid that much, etc...
He was actually really inspiring on Opera- great guy, from what I saw. - robotexplorer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5wow he made everyone look very bad. like they didnt even know how to play.
- adamsorkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's been too long since I've seen "His Airness" in action - you remember him being great, but forget just how above and beyond everybody else on the court he was...
@ClubberLang - yeah, we've got LeBron over here, and he's definitely something special, especially to watch in person, but Jordan's just ... Jordan. Nobody today can carry a team like he could in his prime. - jh5000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EfHnG-e-vE&search=jordan%20dunk
- illegalchuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I've always thought this was Jordan's most amazing display.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cYF-62sZPA - umdigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah, Big Ben was a figurehead for Detroit Basketball. That saddens me.
- boozedrinker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Jordan is to basketball as Muhammed Ali is to boxing
Jordan is to basketball as Wayne Gretzky is to hockey
Jordan is to basketball as Jerry Rice is to football
Jordan is to basketball as God is to earth - ballpeenhammer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thanks a lot.
Being from Portland, a little piece of me dies every time I see that #1 dunk. - riah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's fun watching the second time around too, focusing on the people getting slammed on, haha.
- darkzero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3anyone ever see the Jordan XXI commercial? Recreating some of Jordan's best moments:
http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-3712923125091616210&q=xxi - JAKL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3watching that commercial seriously gave me goosebumps...God I miss watching that guy play basketball...now I know what my grandfather is talking about when he would say he missed watching Babe Ruth play.
- contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It'd be different if they had trading cards. Any sport with trading cards sees huge success and popularity. Just look at Hockey, Baseball, or Pokemon!
- nocode, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"easygoingness"?
I respect Jordan just like everybody else, but Jordan was ultra-competitive and always got into his teammates when they didn't do these correctly. His image to the media was very likable, but behind closed doors, I've read stories of some of his ruthlessness. But that ultra-competitiveness is the reason for his success. - gdawg27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He's definitely right about the salaries. I think the exorbiatant salaries has lead to much sloppier play in the NBA. Don't even get me started about the Knicks. Ugh!
- Doodad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How could this not include the mid-air hand-switch dunk?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4When he quit, I quit watching basketball. I just have no interest anymore.
- ileadyouth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, he was incredbile. As much as I love some of the new blood in the NBA, I don't think anyone will ever top Jordan - even LeBron. As a kid I used to watch all the Jordan videos - he was incredible, and respected by those he played against (even if they didn't show it at that time).
This is a great collection. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Like Mike. If I could be like Mike.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EfHnG-e-vE&search=Jordan%20Free%20throw - systimax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3People forget about how clutch he was. Yes the dunks where great. But Christ, talk about stabbing you in the heart with a dagger Jordon used a sword and twisted it and then cut your head off
- Nooze2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Because that wasn't a dunk, that was a layup (See illegalchucks post above)
- 0zzy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5All I have to say is OMFGWTFLAWL. I'm sorry, but I never realized how great Jordan was until I saw that, being that I am only 16 and I don't remember much when he was in his prime:). Jordan was a madman, he flew in the air, and he made damn good slam dunks.
- sliver108, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I feel old now but I did love those days.
- hoku808, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The dunk over Ewing has to be the best.
- MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1everytime I read that, I thought it said Drunk, not dunk.
- Trueblood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Best ever MJ dunk, IMO, was during the 1992 Olympics as part of the original "Dream Team" -- he's running the floor with Magic Johnson... Magic feeds him a no-look pass and he just soars over the defender who can do nothing but watch.
I haven't been able to watch basketball since watching that team. - macp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1so true. he made the game really fun to watch. i've seen these videos tons of times, still impressive each time. though i don't think i've seen that last point before, where he dunked the free throw from scottie. is that even allowed? :P
- sketchstudios, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1im a geek so i have no idea how to play basketball. that being said,
was that last play by jordan, (number 1) even legal to do? lol - MrC539, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Same here. I lived in Chicago during the Bulls' championship run, and it was incredible how great MJ and the Bulls were. I haven't watched basketball (with any regularity) since he left.
- technolinguist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As a former resident of Chicago during his heydays, I had a lump in my throat. I only saw one game live with MJ in 1990, and boy will I remember that game for ever. I have a copy of New York Times' Sunday supplement from 1996 which says on the cover "Chicago Bulls. The Best. Anywhere.". Much like other commenters, I've lost interest in watching NBA. How I wish we had HD when MJ was playing.....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I believe Dwayne Wade is the next closest thing to Jordan. Lebron hasn't done anything spectacular as of late.
- shirtninjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LOL, that sounded a lil too emo for me. Why don't you feel sorry for the air as well because Jordan walks all over it? Just playin'.
