- nwshc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56I wonder how many nude sunbathers you can catch with that ;)
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34Someone has sand in their vagina...
- netdroid9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32Awesome. Simply awesome.
- fizzyalex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29Slightly better quality, another video by the same person:
http://video.google.fr/videoplay?docid=-2237947353453839215&hl=fr - bashar129, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22Now all he has to do is strap some missiles to it and sell it to the government.
- OrlyonokEaglet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Oh man, unbelievable, simply stunning. This is probably better than any VR system.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+24cool video, ***** awful song
- fredsterss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13my god this is so insane. i would buy one IMMEDIATELY if he made them for order. Does anyone speak french?!
- zouden, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Binocular vision only helps for nearby things (within a few metres). You wouldn't notice a difference in this situation.
- Joeytg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I know they have had cameras on planes for years. All have been fixed on the wings and such but this one looks to move as he turns his head independent of the heading of the flight. If that is the case then that would be just like being in the drivers seat.
- jon3k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Dugg down because he sounds like some whiney R/C plane snobb - but he makes a good point about depth perceptions.
Maybe if you used 2 cameras, and transmitted the video signal independently to each eye, you could get some level of depth perception using the goggles. How sweet would that be? - MobbyG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Make the video transmitter an Amateur Radio ATV transmitter and this could be really cool for public service events! Get a bird's eye view of a race/marathon as well as maybe a look at a flood area.
*Puts on his ham radio wish list*
de KB2MOB - MobbyG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Someone beat ya' to it. It's called The Predator.
- n1qaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7that was just about the best I have seen for video off an rc. the way it tracks head motion is awsome
- LiThiuMElectro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6i speak french and actualy all the location in the video is 1hours from where i live :P
- Esstee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Outstanding technology!
People are right about camera mounting being around for some time now, however this is the first time that such a setup proves usable under the circumstances. Great video and great share! +++ - ArmandoM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What makes you think the government hasn't had this for several years prior to the hobbyists?
- mjpatey, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I thought the music was pretty effective. It sounded lofty and buoyant, like flying. It's not the usual techno crap that gets put behind these things by default.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I WANT ONE!
- yeehawjared, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3RC-CAM has a huge community devoted to wireless A/V in all kinds of applications
http://www.rc-cam.com/index.htm - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7why stop there? get 5 speakers and you got surroundvision ;)
- soupisgoodfood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3RC helicopters have be doing this for a while for such things as aerial photography. The headsets have also been around for a while. But, I've never seen the camera gimble hooked up to respond to the pilots head postion, like the helmet/gun system on the AH-64, so it gets a digg from me. I've always wanted a system like this. I'm suprised it took so long for someone to make one.
- ZapWizard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you want the highest quality small-camera I have ever seen get the "PC823XS" from www.supercircuits.com (You will have to call, it's not on their website yet)
Granted I haven't done R/C stuff; I have used many different small camera's and know you get what you pay for. The above camera is FOV is 120degree's corner to corner, 90degree's left to right, and 75 degree's up and down. It has 470 lines of resolution (DVD quality) is color, and has a low light rating of 0.05 LUX. This means it can still see color in very low light without any IR assist.
Supercircuits also sells all the wireless stuff you would need.
I am not affiliated with Supercircuits, I just happen to be a long time customer. - cletustboone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm a huge fan of R/C planes and it's cool what this guy has done with the mounted camera and the goggles and what have you, but the music in this video makes it nearly unwatchable. They should inter-cut footage of a back lit Richard Marx releasing doves for maximum vomit inducement. I've got faith in my heart that I will be watching this with the sound off.
- TheBowerbird, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Technical Genius, Musical Idiocy.
- trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Me wants..
- Sculptor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The credits mention the iglasses are discontinued but that tech is always sprouting and dying. Where there is a will, there IS a way. Very cool stuff.
- AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It didn't come from any episode, it was the theme song for Enterprise.
- qbelek2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the gyro idea to move the camera is great + the video has some nice music (usually there is some loud "rock" music)
- n1qaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yep, much better. I think the concerns about people getting motion sickness are unfounded, well mostly. anyone that has experience with flightsims might have a leg up just because its very much like that. I know, the headset will add that much more realalistic motion to the experience, But I expect that unless you have never flown before you wont have a problem. I so want one.
- TheBigBad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like this video better as it has a short clip showing the camera moving in conjunction with the goggle setup. Here's one with the same setup on an R/C car. Pretty cool.
http://video.google.fr/videoplay?docid=6166899396954505345&hl=fr - ThisGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah fair enough.
Bit of a daft suggestion now I think about it.
Maybe in some situations, such as buzzing some unsuspecting nearby friends. Not in enough circumstances to warrant the cost.
Silly geek. - prax, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Done before or not I enjoyed the video.
- qbelek2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2whups! :P
I was commenting that video:
http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/gadgets/remote-flying-with-vr-goggles-and-a-camera-202964.php
the link from there brought me here and I thought that this is the same video, but one that digg leads to has that star trek music ;-| - danbedford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1totally freakin awesome... dugg!!
- nepawoods, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@zouden
"Binocular vision only helps for nearby things (within a few metres). You wouldn't notice a difference in this situation."
Unless you had the cameras further apart than human eyes are - then the differences in distance of more distant objects becomes more pronounced (if your head gets bigger, it's like the world gets smaller) - reknaps, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Hes got one where he flies around the F1 track in montreal.
I've got a video camera attached to my plane. Its hella fun.
I'd love to have it move around like that, but thats too much money and time. - GreatDrok, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'm learning to fly at the moment and have a pretty good sim setup at home: X-plane for realism; FlightGear for freedom to move my head in the plane using a mouse which really helps with flying circuits. I have also tried MSFS 2004 and the first time I used it I did a perfect take off, perfect circuit and a perfect landing so it is clearly unrealistic :-)
Anyway, this thing looks fab. There is a real sense of being in the plane. Being able to move your head and look all around naturally is cool. To get this level of realism from a sim you would need to have a similar VR helmet but it still isn't going to do the graphics as well as real life and also there is a real chance of crashing this thing so I suspect you would take it much more seriously.
Very cool. - sucresemoule, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Awesome, but why do we always have to listen to some cheesy music or some hardcore noise ?
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 Great idea, too bad the camera is on top it should be underneath like the ones you see on military drone aircraft.
- shosterman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hallelujah, PRAISE JESUS!
- swordedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seriously Cool
Makes it cheap to get very good photo's of office buildings, houses etc from the air.
The music is theme from enterprise. - LiveWire530, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I just thought it was an aweful song... The fact that you are debating which startrek episode it came from is just terrible.
- ThisGeek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Two cameras, stereovision, full 3d view. It would be stunning.
- gamerage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is like real life Team America with realistic music and everything.
- Pie_Man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think that this thing would make me really sick.
- cmw72, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's things like this that make me feel like a little kid again.
Just think, now you can have aerial photography in your indie films for cheap.
Oh, and the music isn't that awful, but Van Halen's "Dreams" would have been a better choice. :) - adrianguru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that was way cool.
- philz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmmm... I think I'd use it to shock golfers (GTA style!)
- interiot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it cost $1000-$1500 for this setup? I'm still drooling though. http://paperlined.org/product_searches/video_plane.html
