- Battlecry, on 04/20/2009, -0/+10I've never seen a thread full of bike nerds before. It's like a whole new world is opening up before me :)
- DubYaSee, on 04/20/2009, -0/+9I like the low tech commuter bikes, but with a quality that is new to the genre.
- leprix, on 04/20/2009, -1/+10Build your own bike. Buy a frame, components, wheels, bars, saddle, etc. NOS or slightly used on eBay/craigslist. You will be surprised at how much less you will spend and how much more bike you will get for your money. Not to mention the knowledge that comes with knowing how to fix every little thing that goes wrong with your ride.
- akchrs, on 04/19/2009, -1/+7If I had buckets of spare cash I'd take a Yeti ASR.
- dannymb877, on 04/20/2009, -2/+79? Why not 10?
- inactive, on 04/20/2009, -0/+5why not 11? your a decist.
- DLit, on 04/20/2009, -0/+5welcome to the world of mountain biking
- igknighted, on 04/20/2009, -1/+6umm... did someone just go down the list of mainstream bike companies and pick an expensive one from every category? I mean, the trek is probably the least exciting high end road bike ever, giant might do nifty things with carbon, but their designs are as plain as possible, and the langster? Come on, that's a really boring fixed/free with nothing cool about it (go look at any custom built fixie... way cooler). Go check out the pinarello prince for a cool carbon road bike.
- AlyxVance, on 04/20/2009, -1/+5yeah man, only one is a fixie
- timothiuz, on 04/20/2009, -2/+6Why didn't they just put 9 images in one page??
- magic6435, on 04/20/2009, -1/+5What The ***** are you talking about? Only one of those bikes is a fixed gear.
- theblueprint, on 04/20/2009, -0/+4Agreed. I bought my Cannondale roadie from a local co-op via Craigslist, and I'm slowly upgrading it. I couldn't come close to getting the same bike at that price via a shop.
That said, I'd kill for a Madone. - azcowboy290, on 04/20/2009, -1/+5Magic you boob . your telling me that it did not slightly shock you in the least that a bike could cost more than a Harley?
- depro9, on 04/20/2009, -0/+3MASS UP!
- inactive, on 04/20/2009, -0/+3I agree. i have a 25 year old merlin which is still going fine, (except hard to find roller cam/u brakes for the rear !)
I dont think you will see many of todays carbon frames working in 10 years. - ridestp, on 04/20/2009, -0/+3"Freeride bikes have a tough job: suck up huge obstacles on the way down the mountain, but be light and efficient enough to pedal back up."
Umm, FR bikes are designed to be shuttled or lifted back up. All-Mountain bikes are designed to bomb the hill, then pedal back up it. - ridestp, on 04/20/2009, -0/+3The BRAIN technology is incredible, but has been around for a bit and is not so cutting edge. That being said, not much about these bikes is very cutting edge.

- AlyxVance, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2I just had my friend custom build me a $1,300 bike. I love it.
- magic6435, on 04/20/2009, -3/+5Do you have a point? because you failed to make it.
- Nickolassc, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2No personal hate on carbon, (I have carbon fiber handlebars on my XC hardtai and am looking at a carbon fork) but I'd take a full reynolds 853 or titanium frame over carbon fiber anyday.
- DLit, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2Ive got a Specialized Epic and its the best bike ive ever had
- inactive, on 04/20/2009, -1/+3Fixies are just slow: too high gear uphill, too low gear down, no legs on the flat.
- Vivifyer, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2why no Trek District? :(
belt drive single speed fb http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/urban/distric ... - igknighted, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2If you have the money to drop on a Madone, there are many MUCH nicer bikes out there...
- Vivifyer, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2giant bowery for even less
- lsocoee, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2I'll be purchasing the Langster in the coming months.
- equ1nt1s, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2Cervelo > Trek any day. Trek is such a junk company; this was a weak list, any Specialized off-road would be better than that Yeti, and there aren't any TT bikes!
- AlyxVance, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1I completely agree, I hope you don't get dugg down.
- lsocoee, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1I didn't even think about checking on a Bianchi.
Redline is also pretty inexpensive. I think they're about $600. - jjremy, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1It's kind of depressing. I thought I was becoming a bike-pro as I've been learning how to fix my $400 Raleigh. And now I find this secret society of uber-bikers.
- Shiftyeyedgoat, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1Oh, the Trek Madone... I just got a Trek 1000 two days ago because I have envy for that fine bike and don't have the many many thousands of dollars to buy that one.
- jjremy, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1Because it's 2009. I suppose.
- cllnpwrs, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1I got extremely lucky and had an ASR Alloy given to me about a month ago and the thing is an absolute beast on the trails.
I would have probably paid for it if I had to after I rode it the first time. The thing is amazing. - magic6435, on 04/20/2009, -2/+3ooooookay...
- CrimsonFlash, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1This is the bike I bought this year. A Giant Tran Send LX. It's the most amazingly smooth ride I have ever had on a bike.
http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-CA/bikes/lifestyl ... - bradleyland, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1I was kidding!! I've been building my own bikes from the frame up since I was 12 years old.
- blobdole, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1I just got myself an all-mountain bike and for $2300 (frame) you can get the Ibis Mojo SL. Not only is it cheaper and lighter then the ASR frame, but its kits come with 2 more inches of travel and reviews better for both climbing and downhill. If I could marry my bicycle I would.

http://www.mtbr.com/ - ricksite, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1My Epic is the best bike I ever had but I would trade it any day for a newer bike. I can't believe it is around 18 years old now. CF has come a long way since then.
- hyparxis, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1hipster-hate fail.
- coldsnake, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1Thanks for the website.
- inactive, on 04/20/2009, -1/+2Surly or GTFO!
- tobsterius, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1Nope. My knees cry when I begin to think about riding some of the hills I ride with a fixed gear bike...
- Mship, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1I wish i had the cash to afford everyone of those bikes. I have a trek 7.3 fx that i love which cost about 560 bucks and i love it, but i can see myself paying more then that for a bike.
- BBRodriguez, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1wtf, most of them are more expensive than my car
- sonicpentatonic, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1Colnago please
- HiroOfShadows, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1.... they look like bikes.
The last one was somewhat cool. but also quite plain looking. - Mship, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1I see that you guys are saying that Trek is a bad bike design, But i have been using this bike here for about a year now.
http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/road/fx/73fx/
I think it is a really good bike I used it to ride to work about 8 miles each way. I love it, it is light weight and i can move really fast on it. - green1152, on 04/20/2009, -0/+1Too flash for me. Give me a simple lugged frame with minimal parts and I'll be happy.
- timster, on 09/03/2009, -0/+1Civias are overpriced pieces of crap. I can't believe they would include one in a list like this.
