- canewediggit, on 01/02/2008, -0/+17damn, no love for brandon roy? wins rook of the year, then takes the oden-less blazers on a double digit win streak and has them in a western conference playoff race ahead of the rox and jazz among others. plus, he's leading my fantasy squad to first place :-).
wes welker deserves a spot too. - hashmoney, on 01/02/2008, -2/+13was 50 really necessary?
- zwendkos, on 01/02/2008, -2/+9umm... where is Tim Tebow!? I guess winning the Heisman as a sophomore doesn't count as a "breakout"
- iVision, on 01/02/2008, -0/+651. Lewis Hamilton
- CACuzcatlan, on 01/02/2008, -0/+5It is U.S. centric since its from a magazine/website whose target audience is in the U.S. Yes, Giovanni Dos Santos deserves to be on the list, but no one reading it would know who he is.
- 1ghoti, on 01/02/2008, -0/+5Absolutely absurd that Lewis Hamilton is not only not included, but isn't #1 at the top of the list! And out of 50, no less.
A ROOKIE that almost won the world championship in Formula 1. He led most of the year and barely lost the championship. He still beat the reigning champion who was the number 1 driver on his own team. Clint Boyer??? - Shoebox639, on 01/02/2008, -2/+6Where's Joba Chamberlain?
- canewediggit, on 01/02/2008, -0/+4tim tebow doesn't break-out of anything. he breaks everything that gets in his way.
- 93TILL503, on 01/02/2008, -0/+4he was ROY last year....
- BoardColorado, on 01/02/2008, -0/+4I'm glad they put #1 in the summary.
- Coffeedemon, on 01/02/2008, -0/+3More importantly were 50 *pages* necessary?
- MadeInGuam, on 01/02/2008, -1/+4Dugg for Dwight Howard at No. 2. GO MAGIC!!!
- CACuzcatlan, on 01/02/2008, -3/+6Jozy Altiodre (45 on the list) is the future of U.S. Soccer
- xdvx, on 01/02/2008, -0/+3Yeah Dwight Howard so unreal
- huckdunsany, on 01/02/2008, -0/+3Dugg for including "Rampage" Jackson, from Pride and now the UFC... but it's a shame they left off so many other great fighters who've had an outstanding year.
- harrisbradley, on 01/02/2008, -0/+3It goes without saying that Adrian Peterson will be the first player to be drafted in fantasy football, and thus, will have an aweful 08-09 season.
- appleman108, on 01/02/2008, -3/+6Ryan Grant of the Packers?
- jseres, on 01/02/2008, -0/+3Leave it to SI to say Quinton Jackson broke out in 2007. They obviously never watched Pride FC.
- Zervas, on 01/02/2008, -2/+5my "boo hoo, _______ wasn't included"
Ryan Grant. 2005: practice squad. 2006: goofing off injury kept him out for the year. 2007: 4th string running back for the Giants. Traded to Green Bay, didn't start until halfway through the season (6 carries first 6 games) and still nearly broke 1000 yards.
This is an American list. He plays football. Its the playoffs. He plays for one of the most popular teams in the country. - tehnico, on 01/02/2008, -0/+2He broke out the year before.
- andywirtanen, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2He was probably overlooked because he didn't put up big enough numbers. Fielding is almost always overlooked in these lists and 8HR/50RBI just does not cut it, even though he was one of the best 2B in the league (next to Placido and Ellis).
- erad222, on 01/02/2008, -1/+3Yay Adrian Peterson! It's a shame his last couple games were mediocre but I blame that more on play calling than on him.
- iamdw, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2Both Troy Tulowitzki and Ryan Braun of the (inferior, admit it) NL make the list but no Dustin Pedroia of the World Series champion Red Sox? All three are worthy rookies but c'mon...
- reuscel, on 01/02/2008, -2/+4What about Jacoby Ellsbury?
- h2g242, on 01/02/2008, -1/+3Jimmy Rollins anyone? I guess being MVP and taking a philly team to the playoffs isn't enough?
- tehnico, on 01/02/2008, -0/+2Kind of a half break out, considering he nearly edged 1000k on 9 full games... yeah where's the justice on that one.
- brjndr, on 01/02/2008, -0/+2it's 50 individual pages, and SI starts at #1 and counts to 50.
- socomoddjob, on 01/02/2008, -1/+3No Joba Chamberlain? Buried.
- hockey, on 01/02/2008, -0/+2The photo attached to the story makes it look like Peterson is doing some kind of funky chicken dance.
- GruntGrunt, on 01/02/2008, -1/+2How could they not have Eric Gordon on that list ... This kid is only a freshmen and he is going 30 point games already. This guy is going to go far man, doesn't hurt that Indiana is the team I root for.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playe ... - LordHelmet, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1Dugg for Josie Altidore
- Hermiod, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1It's either US-centric or it isn't.
- CACuzcatlan, on 01/02/2008, -1/+2In Spain. If he were playing in a U.S. league he might be on the list. Would you consider this his breakout year? Didn't we already know he was insanely good?
- dafragsta, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1I told everyone that he was going to be a lot better than Reggie Bush as a pure runner. AD runs with power and often considers if running directly at a defender is a more viable option than letting them get behind him only to go for his ankles. He doesn't just stiff-arm defenders, he pushes them into the ground like a tree stump. It's like watching Bo Jackson in his heyday in a lot of ways.
- hmbrown, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1What about Joba Chamerlain? That guy went from being passed over by every team in the draft to the most dominant pitcher (and one of the only things the Yankees had going for them) down the stretch. The Yanks won't even trade him for Johan Santana, he's that good.
- dafragsta, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1Sam Bradford at #15. That's right! Finally SI gives the Sooners some credit.
- threemagic, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1AP should be #1 but he was taylor made for that offense. Minnesota has a scheme that can turn any running back great. It's not like they lost when Chester Taylor was running.
I'm only saying this is the other teams may have passed because in another scheme, he might have been ALL DAY. - spz104, on 01/02/2008, -4/+5Wes Welker
- CACuzcatlan, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1Does that mean that soccer is now an American sport?
- inactive, on 01/02/2008, -1/+2I am not impressed by this list's performance.
- rdecast, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1i do like adrian peterson, but i also credit their offensive line as well. it's hard to say if he would've had that much success with another team without the blocking he received with the vikings...
- artgon, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1Dugg for hickie on upper, inner-thigh of sexy tennis star Ana Ivanovic
- inactive, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1Its a GSP quote you ***** idiots.
- romeyinfc, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1Bullcrap that they left off Brandon Marshall from the Broncos as well, 102 receptions and was basically Denver's offense.
- K3ITHK, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1Look at the facial expression on Tyson Gay, number 10.
http://i.cnn.net/si/multimedia/photo_gallery/0712/ ... - threemagic, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1awful even...
not until he makes the cover of EA sports - CACuzcatlan, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1Dugg for being a clever pun
- webkid, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1What about David Garrard!?!?! Glad to see Kevin Martin made that list though.
- Fanboy1, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1A lot of college players. I really don't count college players as breakout stars, as that is what college is about.
- mortigon, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1That's Gay.
