- Frixionburne, on 02/19/2009, -0/+22Looks like Undertaker tombstoned their site.
- inactive, on 02/18/2009, -1/+17Loved the Ultimate Warrior, and the Rockers!
- jturbo, on 02/19/2009, -0/+15Not since the ultimate warrior, andre the giant, hogan, sean michaels, the undertaker and all those other old timers, has the WWF (***** the WWildlifeF, it is WWF not WWE) been anything but amazing. Wrestling these days is laughable, with too many characters that no one cares about. But maybe I'm just an old timer that doesn't like change. Edit: OK, the stone cold vs the rock vs the corporation was decent...oh yea, and the lingerie matches too....haha
- PVanderVossen, on 02/18/2009, -0/+15Wow, Sgt. Slaughter and Big Boss Man. Been awhile since I have thought about some of these guys. I am not sure if Wrestling was any better back then, or if we were just the right age to appreciate it. I must say the inclusion of TnA in modern wrestling is a welcome addition.
- benjaminsumner, on 02/18/2009, -0/+13I watched wrestling for the first time in years the other day and there was Rowdy Roddy Piper, in the middle of the ring, talking about the good ole days when he slapped Mr. T. To think that this guy is still around! Love it.
- slimasian, on 02/19/2009, -0/+12For those who do not remember: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_Jhf4NSSFU
It's amazing, I don't recall the Ultimate Warrior being that insane.
"MAYBE I SHOULD LET THEM RUN ME OVER WITH LAWNMOWERS!!"
... :-x - SuperVepr308, on 02/19/2009, -0/+12Piper is awesome. He did pretty good in They Live too.
- UnpossibIe, on 02/19/2009, -0/+11Only Hulk Hogan could wear yellow undies and still be cool.
Hulkamaniacs be sure to eat your vitamins!
What ya gonna do brother? What ya gonna do when the Hulkster goes wild on youuuuu! - HyphySoul, on 02/19/2009, -0/+11Roddy Piper got more awesomer because of this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqKFadyJxwg - poppa, on 02/19/2009, -1/+11No, Monday Night Wars was the golden age.
- LJas, on 02/19/2009, -2/+9I would say the mid to late 1990s and very early 2000s were the best. "The Corporation", "The Ministry of Darkness", "DX" all at its prime and the crowd/audience was the most intense during the era. Biggest pops ever.
All you have to do is look at this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbC06eQS_ww - pstroll, on 02/19/2009, -1/+8I'm so old I remember Wrestlemania I.
I'm so old I remember Andre the Giant's fro.
I'm so old I remember Mr. Fuji's cane
I'm so old I remember getting a stiffy from watching GLOW
I'm so old I remember the figure-four-leg-lock
I'm so old I remember TNT
I'm so old I remember when Hogan had hair
... etc etc etc - jedisushi, on 02/19/2009, -1/+7Ah, the good old days. I once saw Ric Flair get his tights pulled down at the Township Auditorium in Columbia, SC. It wasn't a televised event, so a bare ass was no big deal, and it was a great show for the fans.
There was almost a resurgence when Bill Goldberg first started wrestling, but the golden age of wrestling entertainment has long since passed. - KingSkeletor, on 02/19/2009, -1/+7I would say the 90's were much better for the wwf, the competition between them and the wcw was amazing. It was a great time in wrestling before they changed to wwe.
- inactive, on 02/18/2009, -0/+6Big Boss man was the man! I totally forgot about these guys! Great call.
- kurtwoodfin, on 02/19/2009, -0/+5These guys all rocked. Believe it or not, I still have a piece of Hulk Hogan's shirt from a wrestling event I went to with a friend. My favorite move was the pile driver even though it was not done right for the most part because of obvious reasons. Paul Orndorf knew how to do it. These guys forever changed the trampoline for our generation. I wonder how many kids hurts themselves imitating their moves. I remember a friend and I attempted a double clothesline on the grass. We were both on our back for a few minutes afterward. And how can you forget the figure four leg lock. Once properly placed on your friend...you could get him to say anything you wanted...such as say I am the king!
- Charlotte_Web, on 02/19/2009, -0/+5Hulk Hogan was hilarious. Every week, it was the same shtick. He and his opponent would knock each other around a bit, until the guy got Hogan in a sleeper hold. The ref would keep checking Hogan's arm until it looked like Hogan was passed out. Then he would start moving his finger, then his arm, and then suddenly he would spring back to life, knock his opponent around some more, body slam him and pin him.
Every week. Without fail. - firesights, on 02/19/2009, -0/+5I have long since ceased to watch wrestling, as I don't find it worthy of my time anymore, but to answer your, "Don't they know it's fake?" question, I could pose the same to you about Friday the 13th, the SAW movies... or actually ANY form of film or scripted play that you've ever watched in your life. Do you really think a movie is any more real than a wrestling match? Both are fake. The only difference is that your suspension of disbelief is present in one and not the other.
- AmazingSteve, on 02/19/2009, -1/+6You don't need a site. See the documentary "Beyond The Mat" made in 1999. You'll find CoCo B Ware, among others and an aging, broken, crack addicted Jake "The Snake" Roberts rattling around the amateur circuit to make money. To say that it's a rough life is an understatement. Easily the saddest thing I've ever seen. His story as seen in that Doc is in fact the basis for The Wrestler. See if you can find the Doc because I think you'll enjoy it.
- inactive, on 02/19/2009, -0/+5it's just not the same without the honky tonk man.
- PhillyOC, on 02/19/2009, -0/+5Wow. The days of legal steroids FTW.
- Technopundit, on 02/19/2009, -0/+5I'm so old I remember when Bobby Heenan used to actually wrestle! His signature move was to get down on his knees and plead for mercy!
TRUE! - zenerdiode, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4Personally, I'm a fan of the small timers.
Junk Yard Dog and Hacksaw Jim FTW! - ChairShot83, on 02/19/2009, -2/+6The 80's certainly established professional wrestling, but WCW really came into their own and over time, dominated the ratings. It was only when Steve Austin '3:16 era' started that WWF got their audience back. From there, DX and the Rock helped corner the market in the late 90's and the early 2000's.
Then, with WWE gobbling up all the smaller federations, there was no competition and too much talent. 'Invasion' was a joke simply because WWF couldn't sign most of the big name stars of WCW, unless you consider Perry Saturn 'high card'. - SuperVepr308, on 02/19/2009, -1/+5Ric Flair was and still is The Man. If you want to be The Man, you gots to beat the man and sooner or later you're going to have to walk that aisle. You can't be first but you can be next to ride Space Mountain. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Hawk and Animal were the shiznit too.
- almondfilter3, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4Definately the most popular period and when it had the most glam, but the big 2 - Hogan and Warrior, eesh, if you watched one match, you've seen everything from them. And if you saw Wrestlemania 6, you get everything in one dose.
- inactive, on 02/19/2009, -3/+7I remembered back then when wrestlers looked tough. as opposed to today's 'pretty boys'
- darthdusty, on 02/19/2009, -1/+5Best entrance ever

/discussion. - inactive, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4I liked the WCW, kind of got awful towards the end.
Still a Bishoff fan though, I liked him best with black hair. - barryiggins, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4The Eighth Wonder of the World:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laiZgrIpbcA&fea ... - LocalDocal, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4I remember when I first got into wrestling. I started with WCW, then almost immediately switch to WWF at the bidding of a friend. For the longest time, I had thought wrestling was real (I thought of it was a boxing-like sport, except actually fun to watch).
Of course, over the years, I built emotional attachments to various characters, and when they disappeared, I no longer liked it. Today, I hear about wrestlers like Batista, some ***** named John Cena, and etc, and I just can't get into it. Damn shame because wrestling used to be the highlight of my week. Nothing made me loved Mondays and Thursdays more than WWF Raw Is War and WWF Smackdown. - Kickinuarou, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4why are people giving people who loved the attitude era thumbs downs? They must not have been around from 97-2000
- aurrea, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4I would like to see a "Where are they now" site. After watching The Wrestler, it seems like a pretty rough life.
Not to mention some of these guys died at such a young age (Rick Rude and Mr. Perfect?!) - kennynorton, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4Dugg for:
"I look above to the gods and when you fall below the skeletons of warriors past, the power of the warrior will become the 8th wonder of the WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORLD.."
The Warrior was amazing.
I actually bought this DVD.. it's incredibly one sided. But I'm pretty sure the theme is that the Ultimate Warrior.. is, was and always will be a dick. But he was epic as a kid. - EricAnderton, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4roflcopter.
I had to watch that just to see what the hell you were talking about.
He really did say that, didn't he? Wow, this guy really was off his head.
Also, you can see the full sprectrum of builds that guy had during the "interview" segment. Man, was he doing 'roids or what? - SaintStryfe, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3Randy's best stuff was without doubt pre-WWF. When he worked Florida in the late 70's and early 80's, he was insane. He was going through tables while Vince Sr. was still promoting Bob Fark'n Backlund as the idea of a wrestler. He was insane as he has been his entire career. I miss those shows. Had 'em all on tape.
- mac888, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3The boulder is concerned.
- Kickinuarou, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3The 80's were great for wrestling, but the attitude era was the last great thing about wrestling
I've only been watching wrestling for 16 years, but I've seen many matches from the 80's and I loved the attitude era more though because it was the best thing to watch for several years - inactive, on 02/19/2009, -1/+4I always preferred NWA for some reason. WWF never really appealed to me, even when I was younger, except Randy Savage. He was always awesome.
- kennynorton, on 02/19/2009, -1/+4Old school 80's wrestling was amazing. It's all recycled gimmicks now these days.
Hulkamania WTF -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcZvSv_fZd0 - iamnotbill, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3dugg for my childhood.
- inactive, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3Don't forget that crazy upper body shaking motion, the big crazy eyes and the "no no" shaking of his head just before he broke free of pretty much any hold ever put on him.
- skinny01, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3These were the classics, I remember all of these guys. Also, this is when there was the big debate over wwf and nwa (the more "real" wrestling). They forgot the samoan swat team, and the great muta! Also the Four Horseman, Sting and Sid Vicious, Terry Funk, Ole and Arn Anderson, Barry Wyndam with the claw, wow great memories.
- darthdusty, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3The problem is everyone is expendable nowadays.
- jshhmr, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3I have lived in the DFW area all of my life. In the 80's, I would go see the VonErichs, Michael Hayes, etc with WCCW in Fort Worth. In the late 80's I would go to the famous Dallas Sportatorium where Stunning Steve Austin got his start with USWA. I got to see many wrestlers like Jerry Lawler and Jeff Jarrett. Unfortunately, I don't watch WWE or any other promotions that much now. I'm at least glad to see the WWE and TNA finally give the ladies their fair share. Women in the industry have always suffered because they were always meant for a T and A show.

"Queering doesn't make the world work"
Funny thing is Warrior was said to be a male escort, catering to men before he hit bigtime in Pro Wrestling. - Technopundit, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3Back then, the wrestlers would really slam the snot out of each other. Today's pretty boys are worth too much money to the business to do much more than swing each other around.
- raydeen, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3Three words: Rowdy. Roddy. Piper. HotRod FTW. Made some pretty awesome B-movies as well. They Live rocks.
