- mizatt, on 06/18/2009, -0/+46This Forbes slideshow system is ***** awful
- blackinthmiddle, on 06/18/2009, -0/+26Oh Forbes. A little ajax tied to a roll over. I don't know, show thumbnails of each and have ajax fill a main box on an onclick event. A pic and some text. That's the only thing changing...oh and the ads, of course. It's disgusting how they whore their site out for the advertising dollars.
Anyway, so no one else has to suffer:
(in millions of US dollars)
1. Tiger Woods $110
2. Kobe Bryant $45
2. Michael Jordan $45
2. Kimi Raikkonen $45
5. David Beckham $42
6 Lebron James $40
6. Phil Mickelson $40
6. Manny Pacquiao $40
9. Valentino Rossi $35
10. Dale Earnhardt Jr. $34
11. Roger Federer $33
11. Shaquille O'Neal $33
13. Oscar De La Hoya $32
13. Lewis Hamilton $32
13. Alex Rodriguez $32
16. Vijay Singh $31
17. Kevin Garnett $30
17. Jeff Gordon $30
17. Derek Jeter $30
17 Ronaldinho $30 - bdigital24, on 06/18/2009, -1/+23Buried for annoying Forbes ad-whoring lists
Buried for starting at #1 and counting UP for some reason
Buried because I ***** said so - rbarnes, on 06/18/2009, -0/+22$110 million/year = $2.1 million/week = $302K/day = $12,591/hr. = $210/minute = $3.50/second.
In the time it took me to figure this out, Tiger Woods made $210. *****. - tjathf, on 06/18/2009, -5/+16Buried as depressing
- d1x1e, on 06/18/2009, -4/+15Hamilton is often compared to Tiger Woods for his breakout performance at an early age as an African-American in a predominantly white sport
buried as inaccurate...Hamilton's a Brit not a ***** yank. - blackinthmiddle, on 06/18/2009, -0/+7Poor examples for children? Sure. But what about politicians? What about child molester teachers? You can find "poor examples for children" in every walk of life everywhere on the globe. I don't exactly think Lindsey Lohan or Britney "My pussy's hanging out!" Spears are good examples for the children. But sure, pick on the athlete. It's a typical knee-jerk reaction.
Overpaid? According to whom? Are they generating revenue? Seems the obvious answer to that would be yes. Are you therefore saying owners should get even *more* money? If your argument is that ticket prices should be lower, you might sound half way intelligent. However, of course, one could counter by saying why not lower movie ticket prices because actors are obviously overpaid. Why not lower the price of Windows. I think Microsoft's making enough dough. Why do doctors get paid so much money? I remember being on a forum where a secretary, who made $30K a year was pissed that the partner she worked for was bringing in 10 times as much! She literally asked, "Now how's that fair?"
You know how the game is played. You want to get paid like them, then do what they do. Oh, what's that, you don't have the *talent* to do that? Well, do the best you can at what you can do. But don't begrudge someone else's success. You sound jealous and bitter. - rukeypoo, on 06/18/2009, -0/+6If you think Tiger or Phil set poor examples for children you are sorely mistaken.
- daimposter, on 06/18/2009, -0/+6i took one look at the first slide and said '***** this, it's not worth going page to page'. i figured someone here would be nice enough to list it.
thanks blackinthemiddle - gregzav, on 06/18/2009, -0/+6That was paid to manchester united, not ronaldo. His salary will be far less than that...
- EddiePotato, on 06/18/2009, -1/+7They are symbols of the free market. As long as someone explains to kids that:
1) income is solely determined by the number of and/or wealth of people who want what you're offering
2) you've got as good a chance of getting wealthy playing sports as you do winning lotto
then they'll be fine. - YazzyT, on 06/18/2009, -0/+5Just 'black'? There's no stigma about being called black, not in the UK at least.
The manner the term is being used in has to be more importance than the word itself. - inactive, on 06/18/2009, -0/+5Yes, poor examples indeed. Yes, indeed having your kids look up to these athletes and stay in sports is a terrible thing. Indeed, showing them if they are the best at what they do they will be rewarded. Yes, showing them that hard work pays off. Yes, you are an idiot.
- weister42, on 06/18/2009, -0/+4"I'm a doctor who save people's lives on a daily basis and I make 150k a year. What do you do?"
"I make millions by...knowing how to get a ball from one place to another." - daimposter, on 06/18/2009, -1/+5Golf = 3
NBA = 5
F1 = 2
Football(soccer) = 2
Boxing = 2
Motorbike = 1
NASCAR = 2
Tennis = 1
MLB = 2
(Auto = 5)
It’s interesting that the most popular sport in the world only has 2 people on the list. Golf has 3 and the NBA has 5 players. Why is that?
Another point of interest, 14 out of the 20 are in USA based leagues (NBA,MLB,NASCAR,PGA) or had all their events in the US (boxing). Anyone have any idea of why this is the case? Even NASCAR, a strictly american sport had the same as F1, an international sport. - LegomanArt, on 06/18/2009, -1/+4And your profile picture is just about the gayest I've ever seen.
- Merendino, on 06/18/2009, -0/+3Cool thanks, I wondered the same thing as I read this list.
- zslice, on 06/18/2009, -0/+3It seems if you want to really want to make big money you should be a golfer, which is weird because I can't remember a single kid growing up who was dreaming of making the 'big show' in the PGA. Maybe it was just my neighbourhood.
- Jamizzy99, on 06/18/2009, -0/+3Burying your dumb ass for whining about a problem that doesnt exist
- studdenfadden, on 06/18/2009, -0/+3Manchester United gets the money not Ronaldo. Unlike in North American sports where players are traded for other players and draft pics, in the rest of the world players are bought and sold for cash.
Oh, and it was $145M than Man U gets for him:
http://www.edmontonjournal.com/Sports/United+accep ... - frequentFlyer, on 06/18/2009, -1/+3Valentino Rossi is the freakin MAN.
- inactive, on 06/18/2009, -1/+3what por example is that? that in any business you make a saary based on what you contribute to your employers?
- y0smokey, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2How the ***** is a NASCAR driver considered an athlete. I get so sick of this *****. I put them on the level of "entertainers," but ***** athletes? Come on.
There was an interview with Jeff Gordon were he mentioned that he didn't even have to work out when he first started (and was dominant). Now I think he occasionally lifts a weight.
I am sorry...I am ranting. I just want NASCAR to die so badly yet it continues to grow. I think there is a direct correlation with our general education level (or lack there of).
(This does not apply to Indy drivers or people that don't only perform left turns). - BedPost, on 06/18/2009, -1/+3Yeah because I'm really going to click through that.
- baseman16, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2no need to go through all of them, #1 was first. Kinda silly with so many new and wonderful ads on each page.
- nysus, on 06/18/2009, -1/+3Slick!
I got halfway through the page about Tiger Woods and it turned the page for me! At first, I was like WTF? And then I saw that cool little slider. So I turned it down to go slower. Then I was like waiting for it to change but I had to wait like 10 seconds before the page changed for me. No problem! After just a couple of more tweaks, the page was changing for me automatically right on time! I did run into a problem when I got interrupted by my wife asking my stupid *****. But then I could just click the back button and resume reading.
What will they think of next on the Internet? - gwisawesome, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2thank you good sir.
- YazzyT, on 06/18/2009, -2/+4Lewis Hamilton - 'African American'. This is news.
- Anomaly100, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2I don't even like sports, but I had to check this out because you never hold back!
"they whore their site out for the advertising dollars" - adorkable81, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2"Black" just like "White" and "Asian"
black dude
white dude
asian dude - inactive, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1This? They're all like this. I can't believe no one has fixed this.
- maxxarn, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1Because americans are more willing to spend a LOT of money on sports. Also, most of the money the athletes make come from sponsorships and advertising from american companies. The companies rule the world, and the companies are american.
By the way. Does anyone know how much the swedish football(soccer for you americans)-player Zlatan Ibrahimovic makes anually? He's the player who had the highest annual salary anyway, € 9.000.000 or about $12.600.000. I have no idea how much he makes in advertisement and so on though. - molobolo, on 06/18/2009, -1/+2Yes, society is stupid.
Turn on the television once in a while, you'll know what I mean. - 2matrix, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1Who cares about sports figures anymore, people once thought of as Heroes are now just overpaid pricks who don't care about anything but themselves.
- JargonScott, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1Honest question. What do African-not-Americans like to be called in other non-African countries (ie. France)? The whole PC thing is slathered on so thick here I never stopped to think about it.
I'm assuming it's not something asinine like African-French or African-Brit? - bobdigi, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1Remember to hit the STOP button immediately.
- EddiePotato, on 06/18/2009, -1/+2Divide the number of golfers by the number of well-paid golfers and you might reconsider.
- SpeedStix, on 06/18/2009, -1/+2dugg for rossi
- cyrix, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1They people who designed the software for the slideshow can eat all the dicks. Not just a dick, ALL the dicks. I could see if it loaded quickly, but even on a 9 meg connection the ***** loads slow.
- EddiePotato, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1My suggestion is to take the number of golfers in the world and divide it by the number of golfers who are able make a lot of money doing it. There are millions of golfers in the world, and even if most of them are in the US it has nothing to do with my point, which is that it is very difficult to make money playing golf. Work on that knee-jerk defensiveness issue; not all Americans think they're the center of the universe.
- ASfinkterSezWut, on 06/22/2009, -0/+1True... too true... you win. 8-)
- inactive, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1For the curious but lazy like me:
It took him exactly one minute to figure this out. - adorkable81, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1and he just made a bit over $4000 up to this point
- y0smokey, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1At least the baseball players lift weights and do steroids. They don't even do that in NASCAR.
- ASfinkterSezWut, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1...interesting argument... I have a buddy who insists that the same can be said about baseball - is it a "Game" or a "Sport" or is it both? Are they really athletes when they can play the "game" with a beer in their hand and a cigarette in their mouth? I know you shouldn't play like that because if a pop fly comes your way you might spill the beer when you put it down or; God Forbid, drop it... Hell, even a chunky-monkey like Big Papi can haul his big A$$ out there and be a star player despite being big as a house and barely able to run to first base...8-)
- ASfinkterSezWut, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1The money in Golfing has come up dramatically with Tiger Woods. Check out the $ values of the big tournaments a decade or tow ago and you will see the effect he has had on the sport and the prizes for everyone - including the Clubhouses, the Merchandise manufacturers; even the other players - not just himself. It really is quite amazing the impact he has had on his sport.
- adorkable81, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1no, not 900 millions. maybe 500 millions. who cares... i got a headspin thinking about how many 0s are there
- inactive, on 06/18/2009, -0/+0uhhhhhh...did you click on this at alll/ Beckham...Ronaldo. What sport do they play again?
- zslice, on 06/18/2009, -1/+1Haha...It's a pretty US-centric, closed minded assumption that there are a lot of golfers in the world. Golfers aren't anywhere near the top of number of sportsmen who play mate. The only sport that I would think would have a higher ratio (highest paid/ # who play) would be racing drivers. You can look it up to prove me wrong, but the numbers would have to come out of your ass.
