- furburglar, on 11/03/2009, -0/+64Another brilliant move. Stephen Colbert: Great American Olympic Sponsor, or Greatest American Olympic Sponsor?
- JasonCox, on 11/03/2009, -0/+38I may actually have to watch speedskating now just to support Colbert...
- CrixMaydine, on 11/03/2009, -0/+28I just can't wait for the glorious "WE DID IT" moment that will no doubt happen.
- rolf, on 11/03/2009, -0/+21"The show isn't paying the team any money directly. Instead, Colbert is calling on his fans to donate to the team via www.colbertnation.com and www.usspeedskating.org. In the past, Colbert has had a great deal of success raising money this way. He has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Yellow Ribbon Fund, a charity that assists injured service members and their families.
The Dutch bank DSB was to pay $300,000 for the sponsorship but failed to make any payments. That put U.S. Speedskating in a difficult position with little time to court new sponsors before the games begin in February." - Paradiddler45, on 11/03/2009, -0/+20It's not as lame as you might think. The problem is you can never perceive how fast the skaters are moving on TV because the cameras zoom out as the skaters approach. It makes it very boring unless you're in person.
- locorooster, on 11/03/2009, -0/+20Greatest American. Period.
- stockwitch, on 11/03/2009, -0/+15Genius.
- codyman, on 11/03/2009, -0/+12they should just take a picture of him giving a thumbs up and plaster it onto the back of the jersey
- beelz, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9https://webpoint.usspeedskating.org/wp/Transaction ...
- b3astie, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9Where can I get a speed skating jersey?
- Joest23, on 11/03/2009, -0/+7That'll be pretty cool to see that in February at Vancouver. I never knew speed skating brought in that many medals. What I don't get is if people are so concerned about winning the most medals, you'd expect them to pay attention to sports like speed skating which have the potential to bring in many medals rather than something that only brings in one or two.
- subliminali, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6epic, I really hope Colbert can add a gold medal to his wall of trophies. I say one of those suckers is greater than all his stupid peabody awards.
- clifffton, on 11/03/2009, -1/+6And what does papa bear support? Same as always..... hate!
- Jamnajar, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5Awesome just awesome, first the space station and now speed skaters? I can't wait to see what's ahead...

I just dropped $20. Not bad for what you could win. - darkened, on 11/03/2009, -1/+3I really hope this is all true and doesn't disappear come the actual olympics.
- hobermallow, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Total donated so far by Colbert Nation - $40k
- Hodor, on 11/03/2009, -1/+3thanks for quoting the article, I hate clicking through.
- thesandbender, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2I just donated... and the donations are done through the US Speed Skating site and the money is going to them. So at the very least they'll get some money. However, given the Colbert can pull 1-2m "friends" on Facebook, MySpace, etc. I don't think that $300k is going to be a problem.
Also... the guy is a class act in real life. If for some reason it did fall short I think he'd probably pony up the difference. - ldkronos, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2I wonder if those donations get credited to the Colbert Nation funding or not? I'm curious to see how much he'll raise for them.
- RedhookESB, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1No purchase or other considerations necessary to win. To enter without making a donation, send a SASE with a 3 x 5 card listing name, address, phone number and email address to US Speedskating, P.O. Box 18370, Kearns, UT, 84118.
sucker :) - russ3, on 11/03/2009, -7/+1His narcissism msu be purring now.
