- dquan, on 10/09/2009, -0/+84I was honestly hoping the Olympics had let a tiger compete versus humans for medals.
- Heidenreich12, on 10/09/2009, -4/+51i think paintballing would be more entertaining to watch.
- ChromaVita, on 10/09/2009, -7/+39Oh you mean Tiger Woods? Buried.
- Eupatorus, on 10/09/2009, -1/+27Rugby!
- BubblesTheChimp, on 10/09/2009, -0/+25Since it's Rio, they should introduce topless sunbathing and thong wearing as competitive sports.
- nubnub, on 10/09/2009, -1/+24Real tigers > Tiger Woods
- pocketjacks, on 10/09/2009, -1/+19"Golf is a good walk, spoiled." - Mark Twain
- Barackalypse, on 10/09/2009, -2/+19Real sports > Golf
- Insightful, on 10/09/2009, -2/+16Where is pole dancing!!!
- Lucas123, on 10/09/2009, -5/+19Golf, huh? Errr, not so sure about that one. Seems like a pretty boring addition to the Olympics, which is probably why it hasn't been a part of the Olympics for more than 80 years. But, it will be nice to see Tiger clean up the competition.
Does anyone remember that ribbon twirling thingy event that got added back in the 90s? It was like the Olympic Committee was sweating bullets trying to make the games interesting. I thought they were going to add tap dancing after that. - nahsrocketeer75, on 10/09/2009, -3/+16Another opportunity to see Tiger at his most motivated can only be a good thing.
- castingshade, on 10/09/2009, -0/+12Worlds ending in 2012 according to recent books/mayans/movies, so this news is moot
- trixyfox, on 10/09/2009, -1/+13Anyone else think that golf will turn out like tennis has?
Even though its the official worldwide tennis event, it never is anywhere near as big as the Grand Slam tournaments. Also, its possible that not every professional player could participate due to country limits. I dunno, just doesn't seem completely necessary.
On the other hand, "***** yes" to rugby. - Checkerd, on 10/09/2009, -0/+12Yes, every year...
- BubblesTheChimp, on 10/09/2009, -3/+13France would lose every year!
- Pillage, on 10/09/2009, -1/+10I personally don't like any "sport" which receives judged scores. That includes the farce that is figure skating.
- HotSaucePanCake, on 10/09/2009, -1/+9Barack Obama will win the Olympics you Watch!!!
- kaji823, on 10/09/2009, -2/+10YES RUGBY!! Definitely the most athletically intensive sport; should have been there from the beginning!
But Golf... c'mon, now we have to add chess. - dman24752, on 10/09/2009, -1/+9So he's playing rugby!
- grnicon, on 10/09/2009, -1/+9unless you suck. Then it turns into an adventure through sand traps, rivers, lakes, and the woods where you face strange and scary creatures, such as alligators, snakes, and porcupines.
- swordedge, on 10/09/2009, -2/+10This makes it possible for a second sport to have a golden grand slam. In tennis, if a player wins the gold medal and all four grand slams in a calendar year, it is called a golden grand slam. The entire list of golden grand slam winners is Steffi Graf. No men have ever done this. Now, we can have a golden grand slam of golf. Win the 2016 Olympics, the Masters, the US Open, British Open, and the PGA/LPGA Championships, then you get a golden grand slam. The odds of doing this are very small.
- immatellyouwhat, on 10/09/2009, -2/+10Wake up, he's about to hit the little white ball with his steel stick in the small hole 10 feet away...
- cdnbmatt, on 10/09/2009, -0/+7Just a bit of history. Golf was an Olympic sport for one year previously. Currently the only medal awarded for Golf in the Olympics is held by a Canadian!
- Sogui, on 10/09/2009, -3/+10They're not adding a sport so they can attract people like you who think it's boring, they're trying to attract the millions of people who think otherwise
- Pigeon, on 10/09/2009, -4/+10***** seriously?
They make golf an Olympic sport yet didn't even discuss adding Skateboarding when it was proposed to them? - DeviantDragon, on 10/09/2009, -0/+6I'm hoping that since the Olympics will be in Brazil that they introduce Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a trial event.
- SystemicThought, on 10/09/2009, -0/+6They did not put rugby in the Olympics! They included Sevens. Sevens is nowhere near as fun as normal rugby.
- idiosyncrisia, on 10/10/2009, -0/+5It's only 7's for rugby. Boo.
Anyways, New Zealand would win that no contest. - AdmiralAcbar, on 10/09/2009, -11/+16*snore*
- Wombat64, on 10/09/2009, -0/+5The merits of having golf as an Olympic sport aside, I really wish the Olympics would go back to being only for amateur athletes. There is absolutely no valid reason to allow professionals to compete. Keep the NHL, NBA, etc. out. Let the college kids have some fun.
- vsujohn2, on 10/09/2009, -3/+7Ask your mother, she's good at it.
- muller, on 10/09/2009, -0/+4It's also another good rivalry between America-Russia.
Sorry France, the Ton-Tons aren't gonna win this one :) - FXPooky, on 10/10/2009, -0/+4You're just a couple hundred years too late there Caesar.
- Wombat64, on 10/09/2009, -0/+4That might be true of some countries, notably China and the former Soviet Union. But in the USA this has rarely been true. At least in the past. Remember the USA hockey team beating the USSR in 1980. The USA team was made up of a bunch of college kids as I recall. It was a big deal for them to beat the stronger, more elite Soviet team.
These days all of the fun is missing when all the hockey teams are just the same old NHL players scattered around different countries or the basketball team being nothing but the NBA.
There's a big difference between letting some unknown but good golf player on the US team in 2016 versus letting someone like Tiger Woods who has made $1 billion dollars playing golf. - Rudegar, on 10/10/2009, -0/+4me too was hoping for a tiger vs. human with a table-tennis bat match
which would be entertaining unlike golf people say it's fun to play but who really like watching it ? - immatellyouwhat, on 10/09/2009, -1/+4No you're not a real sport!
- photochopped, on 10/09/2009, -0/+3Well that will be cool, IN 7 YEARS!
- wozup, on 10/10/2009, -0/+3lulz :)
- MrARPA, on 10/09/2009, -1/+4I suspect Sevens will provide plenty of entertainment for people new to rugby.
- Asheis, on 10/09/2009, -1/+4but why no cricket? messuers duckworth and lewis have a thing to say about this!
- nanded, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2It already was from 1900 to 1920
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tug_of_war_at_the_Sum ... - cleric04, on 10/09/2009, -0/+2Padraig will beat him!
- Pyrorunner, on 10/09/2009, -0/+2That's why they're called the Olympic "Games"
- inactive, on 10/09/2009, -1/+3100% of the time when someone claims something is not a sport it is because they have never played it, or at the very least never played it competitively. People who claim golf is not a sport playing 2-3 times a yar with a six pack of beer, shooting 140 with plenty of mulligans and kicking the ball. People who claim volleyball is not a sport have only played at church of family picnics on nets that are sagging 2 feet in ther middle, hitting the ball over on one hit. People who say bowling is not a sport never tried playing 56 games in a 4 day period and still being able to lift their arm the next day. People who say darts is not a sport think it is amazing when someone hits a bullseye and/or laughs when people don't TRY for the bullseye because they think it is the best target to hit.
- scm21st, on 10/09/2009, -0/+2Give me a break. Maybe John Daley can bring home the gold.
- yujie, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2What about Olympic sport of watching paint dry and grass growing?
- DanCallen, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2Lacrosse please!
- Pillage, on 10/09/2009, -0/+2SO what is the motivation for Tiger to compete?
- Maddawg579, on 10/09/2009, -0/+2Hey everyone, a big fat phony plays this sport!
- nanded, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2Obviously test matches aren't practical for the Olympics, but 20/20 matches could easily fit.
