- inactive, on 04/03/2009, -1/+13Sport drinks lead to colorful bleeding all over your body, it's true, I've seen it in a commercial.
- deviantsteve, on 04/04/2009, -0/+12But its got electrolytes, its what plants crave!
- Iwantawii, on 04/03/2009, -6/+16When Gatorade has a commercial, they always have like a guy playing sports. I don't think you have be like playing sports and sweating to enjoy a Gatorade. I just think you can be a thirsty dude. Gatorade forgets about this demographic. "I'm thirsty for absolutely no reason, other than the fact that liquid has not touched my lips for some time. Can I have a Gatorade, too? Or does that lightningbolt mean 'No'?"
- IrvineKinneas50, on 04/03/2009, -2/+11Because it tastes good?
- macmcraeart, on 04/03/2009, -3/+12between the heart burn, cavities and now tooth erosion - i don't know why anyone drinks that stuff. it has to be a case study in the power of billions in TV ads.
- seattlegirluw, on 04/03/2009, -1/+9I wasn't really surprised to hear this. That stuff doesn't exactly taste like it's great for your teeth. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure most sodas/colas will also have this effect.
Either way, people over use sports drinks. You really can just use regular water unless you're playing/working out for hours at a time (even still...) or you've been puking all night and want to replenish some of you body's electrolytes. Water's cheaper and frankly better. - maximilen, on 04/03/2009, -0/+8^ As long as it helps with my hangover, the cavity woes can be put on hold. BTW Gatorade is indeed marketing its drink as such, via "morning flavors." :)
- coastiefish, on 04/03/2009, -1/+9"This is the first time that the citric acid in sports drinks has been linked to erosive tooth wear," said Dr Mark Wolff, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Cariology and Comprehensive Care at the college, who led the study.
First time? Wow, really? No one before you doc has researched this and came to this conclusion? No, Really? Wow! You are at the cutting edge of this research! Awe man, I'm so glad to hear this becuase I had no idea! All this time an no one ever has mentioned this in any publication, study or journal before. Hm! - Alli3388, on 04/03/2009, -0/+8Gimme a break. So does soda and juice. No *****!!
- MaxterICC, on 04/03/2009, -1/+7I miss Mitch.
- algaeturd, on 04/03/2009, -1/+7Typical ***** propaganda:
"A spokesman for the British Soft Drinks Association said: "This study does not replicate real life as the teeth were studied outside of the mouth. A real-life study conducted by Ohio State University, which is the most comprehensive study to date, found that there is no relationship between the consumption of sports drinks and dental erosion."
Yes, sugar and sugary drinks will rot your teeth. But like every other ***** health story from the past 10 years, they contradict the entire article in the last paragraph. - Cretius0, on 04/03/2009, -1/+7"A real-life study conducted by Ohio State University, which is the most comprehensive study to date, found that there is no relationship between the consumption of sports drinks and dental erosion."
They needed to do a study on this that means absolutely nothing? - JonTheGoose, on 04/03/2009, -0/+5It's for people who do xtreme dreaming.
- STBAT25, on 04/03/2009, -1/+5My dentist is a pop/soda/coke Nazi. She parrots the fact that it's not the sugar (corn syrup) in them that destroys your teeth but the acid so this doesn't surprise me one bit.
- Pronoiac, on 04/04/2009, -0/+4@aus
I don't drink gatorade of powerade or w/e when I'm just hanging around because I think it tastes weird but when you've been busting your ass on the basketball court, football training camp, or w/e sports you're playing when it's 100 degrees out it's much more refreshing than water. Maybe it's in our heads but I enjoy it. You have to drink some water too but some cold original flavor gatorade from one of those big orange dispensers is great. - motivatedguy, on 04/03/2009, -0/+4WHAT? You mean a drink loaded with sugar, salt, and artificial food coloring causes tooth decay? Next thing ya know they'll say chewing tobacco causes mouth cancer!
/s - skidork, on 04/03/2009, -0/+3Actually, it is the sugar. The bacteria in your mouth process the sugar into an acid.
...
Get a new dentist. - Ajajadude, on 04/03/2009, -0/+3Or people could try brushing their teeth 2-3 times a day. If that's not enough to keep your teeth from rotting out of your head, try something like Trident throughout the day.
- DarkHornet, on 04/04/2009, -0/+3So the study basically means: ripping out your teeth and putting them in a cup filled with a sport drink could lead to little holes and erosion. Would anyone do that, ever?
- Xihix, on 04/03/2009, -4/+7Just in: Smoking leads to lung cancer.
- algaeturd, on 04/03/2009, -2/+5I don't drink this piss but if colored, flavored water gives you heartburn, you have more problems than dealing with sports drinks. Do you have a fragile bunny stomach or something?
- Pronoiac, on 04/03/2009, -1/+4Because we're all elite athletes who desperately need the carbohydrates and electrolytes. If I don't refuel I might just pass out on my keyboard from dehydration.
- Onion575, on 04/03/2009, -0/+3Water > sports drinks, energy drinks
True story - Stalinist, on 04/03/2009, -0/+3Actually....Sports drinks replenish things that water alone doesn't.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -0/+3Lol what at the end of the article they say that drinking it isn't linked to tooth erosion...
- Garmonbozzia, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2What about beer?
- Ductapemaster, on 04/04/2009, -0/+2Not only that but it acidifies the blood and the rest of the body. pH balance is essential for proper enzyme and other functions, and if that is pushed out of balance, tons of health problems occur.
- freehunter, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2I know sitting in front of a computer without actually moving or following the directions on the bottom of my keyboard is not very good, but I am doing just that as I read this post. HAHA.
Actually, I'm slouching on my couch with the keyboard on my lap and the mouse on the cushion next to me. Double-plus ungood. - thrashcowboy666, on 04/04/2009, -0/+2But they have electrolytes!
- Ramble, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2I think this article is referring to ***** like lucozade. i'm not sure if any real sports drink is quite as bad as the ***** but I do know they make a small difference.
- RevPiper, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2DUH!
- FallingDonkey, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2Breaking new ground here.
- FlyingGimp, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2But plants don't have teeth!
- Ajajadude, on 04/04/2009, -0/+2Well then, maybe he shouldn't be singling out sports drinks since other juice drinks have citric ACID (why are capitalizing acid, anyway?) in them.
My stomach can react a little strangely to orange juice because of the acid, but Gatorade doesn't do a dammed thing to me. - ausfahrt, on 04/03/2009, -1/+3But all u need is water plus a fruit or veg and you are set.
- STBAT25, on 04/04/2009, -0/+2I did.
- Ajajadude, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2Maybe you should go see a doctor if sports drinks are giving you heartburn.
- ausfahrt, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2I appreciate the comedy but the thought that real elite athletes even need this ***** is garbage. Water plus a fruit or veg and your electrolytes are fine.
- Julian88888888, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2^
agreed.
try this guys, if you don't want cavities, brush, floss, and mouthwash, - teh_techie, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1Drink coffee! It might help ya run faster!
http://digg.com/general_sciences/Scientists_uncove ... - Behnood, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1and since when do dentists care about people damaging their teeth? I mean, that's how they essentially make their living right?
- EntangledPhysx, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1It's a lot easier to carry a bottle of Gatorade with you instead of a bottle of water and a pieces of veggies. I know people who work out pretty damn hard (cardio-kicking boxing, loading trailers at FedEx) and Gatorade is highly preferred over water and veggies.
- Stalinist, on 04/03/2009, -0/+1And getting high leads to brain erosion.
- teh_techie, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1dugg for the slightly erotic description....
- ussvoyager74656, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1At least I'm hydrated... the ladies don't care about teeth do they?
- EntangledPhysx, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1But how much do you have to drink for that to occur in any non-trivial manner?
- DyceFreak, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1sugar + acid imbalance + time = Ulcer
- threeptxstance, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1what the fruit, who needs teeth?
- ajv570, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1And this just in!
you get wet when it rains out! - inactive, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1Thinking to much causes tooth rot!
