- nightfright, on 08/17/2008, -0/+35I watched the whole thing, it was amazing. Good Job to her
- tommyjwall, on 08/18/2008, -1/+26I can finally say I competed against an Olympic gold medalist. She ran the Chicago Marathon in 2006, which I also ran... and yes, she beat me.
- Hrodrik, on 08/18/2008, -0/+20Hai Romania!
- inactive, on 08/17/2008, -0/+19:) Hehe, Romania already has some gold medals, and ranks through the first 12 countries at the olympcs way to go !
- jameswater2, on 08/17/2008, -0/+17That whole last leg was amazing! Her fellow runners did a great job as well and the last 100m had me on my feet.
- inactive, on 08/17/2008, -2/+18gr8 competition. nice stuff
- BossKey, on 08/18/2008, -0/+10I was amazed that she continued running her victory lap in the stadium for a significant amount of time...after running the 26 miles!
I understand the value of cooldown jogs and such, but I was sure she'd be more interested in a jacuzzi after the finish line. - serendipitously, on 08/18/2008, -0/+8Second time a 38 year old has won a marathon. Australia's mother of three Heather Turlington won the Commonwealth Games Marathon. As I recall she was unable to accompany the rest of the Australian team up to Darwin to acclimatise herself to the humidity, so instead she closed the kitchen door, put a few pots of boiling water on the stove, and ran on a treadmill to try to simulate the effect.
Amazing stuff!!
The last leg of this marathon was spectacular. How anyone can pull out a last leg like that after running 42km is unbelievable. - zackintosh, on 08/18/2008, -0/+8My wife is Romanian and we were all filled with pride. They're great people.
- sirmasterboy, on 08/18/2008, -0/+6Wow that's about 5:40 per Mile! For 26 miles!
- chinauprising, on 08/18/2008, -2/+7Because I like watching how the athletes get into their groove and overcome their challenges and struggles. It makes the win that much more impressive. Watching the Egyptian winner of the 1000 meter run was a real treat. Her composure and control are very apparent right from the beginning. When you see her pull ahead at the bell it's unbelievable. Her gait seems to nearly double. - I also want to see the full marathon route. I read that it was awesome. There are youtube videos of it, but not of the actual race.
2. There are plenty of Olympics torrents are out there.
3. I don't want a TV. - Panopticism, on 08/18/2008, -0/+5I thought you would know best, being someone with the intellect of a 13 year old and all.
- mcool119, on 08/17/2008, -5/+91: Why would you want to watch a whole marathon?
2: No one is going to upload it as a torrent when you can get video of it on nbcolympics.com
3: You know, TVs don't cost all that much.
Sorry to be a negative nancy. - DonKarnage25, on 08/18/2008, -0/+4This was a great race. She gambled by jumping out in the lead that early while all of her competitors hung back .. and led by a minute for the last 10 or so miles before the final stretch into the Bird's Nest. It was a gutsy move that paid off well.
- 054k4, on 08/18/2008, -1/+4Awww, I missed it. Congrats anyway.
- CasualReader, on 08/18/2008, -0/+3Much of long distance racing is group think strategy. "You go out in front", "No, You go out" etc. etc. She just decided to move out of the pack and set her own pace. I get the impression she raced mostly against herself. She didn't even look back until near the end.
Amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - marx2k, on 08/18/2008, -0/+3For some reason that article-picture reminds me of C64's Bruce Lee
- zenden1, on 08/18/2008, -0/+3Very nice performance from Romania number 12 in the medal table, especialy from a 21 milion country
- Typhoon2009, on 08/18/2008, -1/+4You should consider getting a TV tuner for your PC. Should let you watch local channels, including NBC. If they make ones with CableCARD capability, then you can watch cable TV as well...
- mcool119, on 08/18/2008, -0/+31: You ever watch Karnazes run the Badwater Ultra? Just wondering... If you like the olympic marathons, that's even better.
3: That's applaudable. - chrisduser, on 08/18/2008, -0/+2Eating after a marathon must feel euphoric.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 08/18/2008, -0/+2The last time I tried to use NBC's craptastic player the videos I was watching always started over when I tried to scroll to later points in the events.
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -0/+2She was the only runner willing to make the others suffer. Bravo. The Chinese and Africans went down without a struggle. Excellent race. When you see how hard these athletes work for a slim chance at a meddle it really cheapens other events like those silly swimming races.
- JMellissa, on 08/18/2008, -0/+2What really impressed me is that SHE JUST KEPT ON RUNNING! ...even after the finish...
- BossKey, on 08/18/2008, -0/+2Sometimes you don't have an appetite at that point...
http://www.boreme.com/boreme/funny-2008/poop-marat ... - craighoxton, on 08/18/2008, -1/+3Tomorrow morning she goes back to her day job of making sandwiches at Pret a Manger, Waterloo
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1My job here is done
- ahthrift, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1I thought they were a bit fat
- geekd, on 08/18/2008, -4/+5Did you watch this? They were the skinniest people I have ever seen. Don't get me wrong, great athletes, hell I can't even run down the block, let alone 26 miles. But they were even skinnier than the men. Legs like sticks. No hips at all. I really wanted to give them a sandwich.
-geekd - DonKarnage25, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1Got damnit this was the most retarded post I've seen in a while. It was filled with so much fail.. I almost threw up on the internet.
- chinauprising, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1it's on thePB
- kataleen, on 08/18/2008, -1/+2Romanians are great people. This is just one small proof of that.
- Panopticism, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1When did I say it wasn't polluted? Quit putting words in my mouth, *****.
- DonKarnage25, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1Yeah.. the damn Chinese were mad that she won.. so they shut down the field-level jacuzzi out of protest of her victory.
- chinauprising, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1I really aught to check info before posting my comments. I was referring to Dibaba, the Ethiopian who won the 10,000 meter...my very bad.

Thanks for the Karnazes tip. I'll look for that. - inactive, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1clearly 12......year olds
- DonKarnage25, on 08/18/2008, -1/+2You can't run down your block?
I'm.. sorry. - BossKey, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1Whatever it was, clearly she felt it was the wrong week to quit sniffing it...
- sklter84, on 08/18/2008, -0/+0Get your facts straight kid, the 2 Chinese runners were 29 and 24 respectively.

Way to be a champ and devolve yourself into a cog of the "zomg China cheats and uses underage girls" meme spouting machine. You have the freedom and liberty to think whatever you want yet you choose to think the same as the masses. - Panopticism, on 08/18/2008, -5/+5Where are all the ***** who were complaining about the pollution?
- WhiskeyThieves, on 08/18/2008, -2/+2What was she sniffing? The commentator said something about salts. Can someone elaborate?
- DonKarnage25, on 08/18/2008, -3/+2You're dumb if you think it's still not polluted. They were lucky that it just happened to be raining lightly that day.. the rain helped clear up the pollution greatly.
- vinceislegend, on 08/18/2008, -3/+2I see what you did there.
- chinauprising, on 08/17/2008, -7/+5Hopefully someone uploads the whole thing as a torrent. I haven't had a tv in over a decade.
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -10/+1She like wtf pawned every one she was way out in front the announcer guy said "she will crash". The bitch didn't and she smoked the 13 year old Chinese runners behind her. It seems to be that having 13 year old runner is a bit of a disadvantage in a marathon, unlike in gymnastics. Who would have thought?
