- sikedsyko, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6they're remote controlled.
- 65daysofstatic, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6Beastly latissimus dori.
- jgubbe, on 07/01/2008, -1/+6dolphins finally cross-bred
- da_bradler, on 07/02/2008, -1/+6all olympic events should be done naked, it's the only real way to accurately judge these things. the technology in the clothing is advancing to the point where setting a record doesn't really mean anything anymore.
- iceman0113, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4And why not? I bet you can't even come close to her times, not even on your best day and her worst day.
- ry4nsm1th, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4Or 9 of them, since that is what he is going for.
- Zegarek, on 07/02/2008, -1/+5Or maybe we just rock at swimming now? It used to be an Australian dominated sport but the US has definitely come into it's own. And how are the athletes supposed to show humility? Win by less?
These are Olympic bred athletes, you don't try to hold them back, they get once chance every 4 years to show their worth to the world and you'd better be damned sure they're going to give it their all. - MaximusD, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3this is cool, but I think the new records have something to do with the new fast suits these people are wearing. They add a little bit of buoyancy and reduce drag. It has nothing to do with steroids. We have exceptional swimmers this year with new technology.
- mugicha, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4I'd stroke that breast.
- ArchetypeRyan, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Dugg for awesome action shots. Photography has come a long way from the daguerreotype.
- skinnyskittles, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3i hope that was sarcasm or some type of attempted humor
- MewTwo, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3Monstrous arms

- stilesja, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Fantastic shots, I wonder if the underwater pics come from a photographer wearing a re-breather or some sort of remote controled setup.
- iceman0113, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3Or maybe because of the new suits?
- Davoidbot, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2That 3rd picture looks like she is swimming in a toilet.
- freakstyle571, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3I've said this before and i will say it again, and again. As a swimmer, these suits are fantastic to swim in. But do not think for a second that they "give" you records. These suits have the potential to MAYBE shave a couple hundredths of a second off at the most. And while that may seem like a lot, it still takes phenomenal swimming to take down the already astonishingly low world records that have been set.
Also consider that these are perfectly legal suits that ANYONE can buy or own. They really don't cost near as much as you would think either; considering what level of skill you have to be at already for these to REALLY make a difference. dropping a couple hundred dollars or even a couple thousand dollars isn't a whole lot when you consider the time and energy you're invested already to attain world record sprints.
The other reason that world records are dropping so fast is the degree of fine tuning of practice regimes that are going on for these swimmers. EVERY aspect of those swimmers lives is done for the sport. The way they eat, sleep, stand, sit, EVERYTHING is done for the sport so that they can perform at their physical boundaries. To say that these suits cheapen their records diminishes the fact that they have trained for years and have persevered through it all.
/rant - elizabethb221, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2It's all about aerodynamics. Even skin has too much drag.
When I was a swimmer, shaving your legs literally shaved seconds off of your time. - amazinasian, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2ಠ_ಠ

- Shipyaad, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0Where's Syphon8 to tell us all that this is the easiest sport the he'd consider a sport?
- WHVN, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0wait till the we see the shots from the Olympics!
- Slushi, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0The new suits don't do much--hundredths on a 100 at most. However, swimming in a legskin or bodysuit gives the mind and body a contained, strong feeling; something not unlike shaving.
Personally, I prefer my own skin as opposed to synthetic sharkskin, primarily due to my light wallet. My six foot ass won Missouri's HS State Championship with a 22 Speedo, so I consider it a matter of comfort to the individual swimmer (although Speedo sponsored Omaha's events, so everyone gets dibs on some expensive gear). - inactive, on 07/02/2008, -8/+7Look at those lats.
Swimming is to whites as the 100m dash is to blacks. - donald347, on 07/02/2008, -2/+1What's with the souls of his feet?
- M00nshield, on 07/02/2008, -1/+0maybe we're evolving
- gogog0, on 07/02/2008, -15/+3congrats to phelps. I don't consider the women's world record a record.
- Garric, on 07/02/2008, -16/+2JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF AMERIKKKA trying to "look better" than the rest of the world.. how about some humility?
i bet you anything these swimmers were using steroids or other illegal *****.. just how capitalism does it.
