I don't know, but to volunteer for the much more stringent testing seems to sends the message that he's got nothing to hide.

When you swim likethat you literally wake up a train until you fall asleep. He may be goofy looking but my god the dude can swim

    most people are gonna call ***** but i actually beat this dude in the 50 fly back when we were 14 or 15 (i hit my growth spurt before he did) but he creamed me the next year and never looked back

    You can't possibly compare Thorpe at the top of his game to an up and coming kid in Athens and say the kid isn't as good. Compare Thorpe's record times in Athens to Phelps' times in Bejing and you can see each swimmers true ability and make a more intelligent judgement.
