- robertawerner, on 08/19/2008, -1/+31Did anyone else find the layout of that site crazy busy? My eyes didn't know where to focus.
- thopunk, on 08/20/2008, -0/+20BMX = Bicycle Motocross. Therfore, BMX Motocross = Bicycle Motocross Motocross. Awesome.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -0/+17Im glad they added this
- AshevilleRaised, on 08/20/2008, -0/+17I know I will enjoy this.
Nothing better than the guy in the front falling, and having four other bike riders run over him.
Thats good television. - z3021017, on 08/20/2008, -0/+14Go the Aussie rider Kamakazi (sic) - yes that's his real name :
http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/BIO/Athlete/ ... - Rudy165, on 08/20/2008, -0/+12The men's BMX competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics will take place on 20th and 21st August at the Laoshan BMX Field. These will be the first Olympic Games, when BMX events are held.
Each of the 32 men competing will perform two runs of the course in individual time trials to determine seeding for the knockout rounds. They will be grouped into 4 quarterfinal groups based on that seeding. Each quarterfinal consists of three runs of the course, using a point-for-place system. The top four cyclists in each quarterfinal (for a total of 16) move on to the semifinals. The semifinals also use a three-race point-for-place system to determine which cyclists advance, with the top four in each of the two semifinals moving on to the final. Unlike the previous two rounds, the final consists of a single race with the first to the finish line winning.
per wikipedia. - clickedbmx, on 08/20/2008, -0/+10^you're an idiot. BMX racing is competed in all over the year, actually the first time trial just finished in Beijing and a rider from Latvia is leading. BMX freestyle should stay in the X-games I will agree but BMX racing belongs here just as much as any other cycling or track and field event.
- redbytex, on 08/20/2008, -1/+11Misleading title. Not nearly enough blood to warrant that tag.
buried - thetanman, on 08/20/2008, -0/+10I'm not saying it feels 100% legit, but if table tennis belongs, then BMX belongs.
- sq2shooter, on 08/20/2008, -1/+10Full size mountain bikes can be found that weigh 20 pounds these days.
- kjd84, on 08/20/2008, -0/+8What other sport in the olympics uses an internal combustion engine?
- angrycat, on 08/20/2008, -0/+8When I saw it in action on TV the first thing that came to my mind was EXCITE BIKE!!!
- pingpants, on 08/19/2008, -1/+9Yikes. This is a little cleaner: http://tinyurl.com/5pt4nx
- goodolboykt, on 08/20/2008, -1/+9About time they have something exciting to watch at the olympics
- huff51, on 08/20/2008, -2/+9obscene
- brendanryder, on 08/20/2008, -0/+7okay so its a sweet course but....
BMX courses need some..... something different. its all the same stuff.
add like some water to jump over or some "obstacles" - inactive, on 08/20/2008, -2/+9whoa trip out... BMX an olympic sport... never thought I'd see the day.
- inigomntoya, on 08/20/2008, -1/+7I agree - I was hoping for some blood. At least a pic or video of someone flying off their bike rag-doll style. Oh well...
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6I bet ur a huge fan of badminton.....
- CrazyDave303, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6sarcasm aside stuff like this works against the respect of women's sports. It's like having the woman's 50meter dash only 40meters, woman basketball with 2/3 height nets, and.... WOW I know they have changed this but from wiki Olympics Rowing "Women's races were raced over 1,000 meters until 1988 when they were changed to 2,000 meters. " enuf said!
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -0/+6There should be foosball if there is ping-pong.
- markperia, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6Im gonna be rooting for this guy. Just look at this pic:
http://www.zimbio.com/pictures/xS6oD2mfXOU/Austral ...
That gameface just screams winner. - oneredeye, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6Why is the women's course 50 meters shorter? Is it because women aren't as good atheletes as men?
/sarcasm? - dafragsta, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5I didn't know Kyle Bennett from Hard OCP was a BMXer. He's kind of an old bastard. ;)
- To0pak, on 08/20/2008, -1/+6BMX just isn't the same without drunk redneck hecklers
- vgtek, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5its the type of bike, bicycle motocross
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5I thought it was going to be somebody riding without the seat.
- mediaspree, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5When is this on (EST)...as well as others...
- ZeeZee2k, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5I was thinking lava stream
- CrazyDave303, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5Most guys can't ether, they don't try out for the Olympic. Maybe the woman competitive riders should try harder...
- Rundmsteve, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5A guy from my area is competing in this event. His dad (who runs an excavator business) built a replica of this track in the back of his yard for his son to practice on. I wonder how he will go.
- ridestp, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5You are incorrect. BMX freestyle belongs in the X-Games, while BMX racing has a rightful place in the Olympics.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5I know that NBC says there going to show the mens quarterfinals sometime between 12:35 and 2 am
- tghd, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4I felt the same way when it was announced, buts its a physically demanding sport that requires quite a bit of skill. The Olympics has to modernize to attract more viewers, Media attention, presence. Although I'm not a big fan and it feels out of place, I don't have a problem with it.
- cadmiumpaint, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4hope they show this on TV. if not primetime at least during the day. I'm so sick of them just showing wrestling and boxing during the daytime brodcast.
- SciFctn, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4who said anything about downhill or freeride?
He said that they can be found, not that all are - CrazyDave303, on 08/20/2008, -1/+5more reading on wiki about rowing
"Rowing at the Summer Olympics
[...delete...]
At the current Olympics the following 14 events are offered:
[...delete...]
* Lightweight Men: coxless four, double sculls
[...delete...]
* Lightweight Women: double sculls"
Notice there is no women's coxless. I guess it's given - SciFctn, on 08/20/2008, -1/+5the reason is, like you said, the jumps are smaller...the womens course avoids the big double jump.
- tas08, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4BMX Steeplechase?
- username7410, on 08/20/2008, -1/+5I'm not saying it isn't a valid sport, it is... but it belongs in the X-Games.
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -1/+5It's more of a sport than some of the equestrian events.
- RansomHoldiay, on 08/20/2008, -1/+5just curious, why is the women's course different? what could the reason possibly be? a lot of the jumps are smaller.
- TapperJones, on 08/20/2008, -2/+5I'm surprised the bikes only weigh 20 pounds.
- csimpkins, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3http://www.teagames.com/games/bmxstar/play.php
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3yeah i agree with you! Im waiting to watch the men quarterfinals on nbc starting at 12:30 am or when ever they decide to show it during the time slot
- clickedbmx, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3whoops just noticed an error "BMX racing is competed in all over the year" year should be world... looks like I'm the idiot.
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -0/+3Wouldn't being lighter make it easier to get more air? And can I still call it "air" if it's considered a proper sport now?
- habbofresh, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3sharks with laser beams.
- buckeye45, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2not to mention speedwalking...
