- DeadFox1, on 08/15/2008, -0/+4This MUST be addressed by the IOC.
- CrazyDEX, on 08/14/2008, -2/+4This is pretty lame by the Chinese government. They need to take the team medal away and as a penalty ban their gymnastics team from competing in the next Olympics.
- elisathon, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2I agree that if one or more of the gymnasts are proved to be underage the IOC should take action against the Chinese Gov't - and it certainly seems likely that it is possible to obtain proof, as there are several published records containing their ages/birthdates from previous competitions.
Remember that these girls have almost no ability to go against the gov't's wishes, so punishing them for something they virtually no control over seems unfair.
And one more thing - How about you keep your nasty racist comments inside your own tiny, empty, head. - Wendigo6x3, on 08/14/2008, -0/+1just throwing it out there, only one gymnast has been proven to be underage at this point, so the title is slightly wrong.
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1We should be happy they didnt bind her feet or throw her in a river for not being born a boy. Let the poor kid enjoy her moment and enjoy the fact that we live in a country were Rodney King won a million dollar lawsuit instead of disappearing for every like the tienamen square guy.
How sad is a country who's need for nationalistic pride hangs in the lie of a 14 year old girl that will develop chronic joint and back pain so that her nation could feel less insecure for a moment.
And thumbs up to the American girl for being a good sport to the better athlete 12, 14 or whatever her age is. - upick, on 08/14/2008, -1/+2Cheaters never prosper....
- gwayo, on 08/14/2008, -2/+3These gymnasts, while immensely talented, looked about 12 years old. Yes, they deserved a gold medal for their skills. But did they deserve to perform in the Olympics early when all of the other gymnasts had to wait their turn? Or be chosen over older, qualified Chinese gymnasts who might not have been as talented or flexible--but were more eligible? No way. How could the OC totally ignore all these documents (that were found BEFORE the Olympics) just because the government 'produced' passports? (I mean, really--who makes passports in the first place? THE GOVERNMENT.) Poor Béla Karoly kept being ignored.
The most distressing issue about this is that China's government doesn't think that rules apply to them--and that they can run their athletes through the machine and demand success as though they're products, not people. Disgraceful. - inactive, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1But to argue my own point: there was a 15 year old Russian Gymnast that sat out this Olympics while the Chinese government felt the rules did not apply to them. So yes, China is a nation run by a bunch out lying and dishonorable a-holes that use little girls to make themselves feel superior.
...then again the Chinese are rumored to have really small and narrow dicks so... what do you expect? - cloudyskies41, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1Classic Chinese move...
- 1oneWON, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1Seems like they unfortunately did this time.
- tumatakuru, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1These will be remembered as The Fake Olympics
- britoca, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1bye bye team AA gold
bye bye individual AA bronze
bye bye the remaining competition
and maybe even bye bye gymnastics for a few years as a punishment, being that this is the 2nd time the're caught faking the age of athletes. - Dyar, on 08/15/2008, -1/+1Yeah that's a great idea. Ruin the chances of those not involved. Imagine you are 15 and you decide to play by the rules and not go to the olympics this year. And then you get screwed because somebody else went underaged and now you can't go in 2012, so that means the chance after that will be 2016 and you'll be 23 which is already old in the sport. And people wonder why they want to compete as early as possible. The age restriction is stupid.
- mattmcegg, on 08/14/2008, -8/+2IOC should take the Gold from them and give it to the US. Sly ***** Chinese.
