- NaziHatinChimp, on 02/10/2009, -7/+166I don't blame him. He wins us 14 medals and America throws him under the bus for taking a Bong rip. I would melt my medals down into a huge finger.
- EricAnderton, on 02/10/2009, -3/+81"I would melt my medals down into a huge finger."
... or the world's most impressive bong. - h4mx0r, on 02/10/2009, -0/+42... or if you're really artistic, both!
- Stiles05s, on 02/10/2009, -1/+39"The television station also reported that police confiscated the bong Phelps allegedly used after tracking it down when its owner, who is one of the eight people charged in the case, attempted to sell it on eBay for $100,000."
Did anyone else get a kick out of this? - awtripp, on 02/10/2009, -0/+33Hang out in Amsterdam and watch the games on TV?
- t0nic, on 02/10/2009, -2/+35/sarcasm Pot sure does delay one's decision making skills~! /sarcasm off
I wouldn't want to represent a country that threw me under the bus to make a point about the "war on drugs" either. - marleymar, on 02/10/2009, -4/+36Effing Kellog's. I can't believe they won't even take his calls.
- EagleRufio, on 02/10/2009, -5/+32You know what helps you make a decision? A nice big bowl of pot.
- replaysMike, on 02/10/2009, -5/+30Why? Is weed hard to get in London?
- cyberwiz01, on 02/10/2009, -0/+20The Michael Phelps center for kids who can't swim good and want to learn to do other stuff good too?
- ksalminen, on 02/10/2009, -4/+19After becoming the best Olympic athlete of all time and then getting bashed by the country that once loved you because of smoking harmless herb, I don't think I would want to compete either.
- inactive, on 02/10/2009, -11/+26What else is he going to do? He's not the sharpest tack in the box, dude better milk the talent he has for as long as he can.
- jba68, on 02/10/2009, -0/+14it made me recheck the url to make sure this wasnt an onion article...
- FeloniusMonkey, on 02/10/2009, -0/+13Impressive-- I just had to digg all 3 of ya.
- cheezintern, on 02/10/2009, -3/+16He should join team Canada and swim for a less hypocritical country.
- Rendonsmug, on 02/10/2009, -0/+12Or he could mail them into cash4gold.com!
- serif69, on 02/10/2009, -0/+11Having never smoked weed in my life and not being any sort of celebrity, if for some reason I decided to take a picture of myself with a bong up to my lips and post said picture on the internet, nobody would threaten to arrest me or any of my friends who happened to be around when I took said picture. So why the hell would they have to arrest people involved in this?
I like the fact that his suspension is three months long, so he's decided it will take him about that long to come up with a final decision on whether or not he will participate. Obviously the herb has not effected this man's ability to think logically. And I hope he spends all three months high off his ass if he wants to. - slym2k, on 02/10/2009, -0/+10What is this, a pool for ANTS?
- yomamaphat, on 02/10/2009, -2/+12Effing = *****, but for Mormons.
- Inflammo, on 02/10/2009, -0/+8Also, if he wins anything short of 14 medals again, some outlets will spin it as a failure, or that he lost his touch. It's an impossible standard
- inactive, on 02/10/2009, -0/+8Wouldn't of it been better if the digg headline talked about the arrests?
- se7envii, on 02/10/2009, -1/+9Better solution: Sell the medals and move to Canada and live happily ever after, smoking joints by morning and bong rips by night.
- LumberingOaf, on 02/10/2009, -0/+6
I don't see whateveryone's problem is. Marijuana is not a performance enhancing drug... unless of course you play bass. - RumpleForeskin3, on 02/10/2009, -0/+6I heard he is competing for the Netherlands..
- JammoBlammo, on 02/10/2009, -0/+6Win.
- awtripp, on 02/10/2009, -1/+7***** the games. Bunch of exploitative *****. Do charity work or start your own swim school or...something else...
- iny0urbrain, on 02/10/2009, -0/+6Agreed.
- ericdano, on 02/10/2009, -1/+7Phelps.......come on man. You don't have anything else to prove, and you should just start working out something else to do.
- eramos, on 02/10/2009, -3/+8I'm unsure if I care
Oh no, I'm not. I don't. - Dmilla16, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4he shouldn't. Granted that is a long time from now but rub it in the face of all the people that ridiculed him for pot. maybe it'll be legal by then
- peteyb1313, on 02/10/2009, -1/+5Boycott
- atm259, on 02/10/2009, -2/+6Is America ***** happy now?
Now we won't win any medals. - bastardx, on 02/10/2009, -1/+5He should do Cash4gold
- jamesgott, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4If it were me I would have another go at it and shove it in everyone's face.
- shagmin, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4On the other hand I can see him doing it and winning just to prove he’s still a top performing athlete and weed isn’t really that harmful (not that anyone who hates weed would change their mind over it). He has a good reason either way.
- CoD4, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3my family has been trying to convince me to move to canada for years, i think you just did it
- KeithLM, on 02/10/2009, -1/+4What lesson do you hope he learns? Don't smoke pot around people with cameras? In case you haven't noticed, the drugs did nothing to him, it was just the overreaction by the media that caused him harm. If the marijuana somehow affected his abilities, that would be something to use to teach kids.
- fword07, on 02/10/2009, -1/+4This is how Michael Phelps has been since he started smoking pot. He's all lazy and boring and.. you know, we used to have so much fun together.
- aethelberga, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3I'm sure it has less to do with the whole pot thing and everything to do with having already hit the pinnacle of his profession. London is three years away. Anything could happen before then, including him being eclipsed by some young up and comer. If he competes and only gets a couple of silver, the media is going to be full of "Remember when he was great?" Best to walk away now and get on with the rest of his life.
- cmotdibbler, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3Maybe emigrate to the Netherlands and compete for them? Could make for a interesting scene on the winner's podium, leaning on the silver medalist with one hand and pretend he's got a doobie in the other.
- stormgren, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3He stated publicly that he would definitely swim less events. Probably just the sprint events too, I'd love to see the first sub-50 100 fly or a 1:50. 200 fly.
- pintomp3, on 02/10/2009, -1/+4He should represent Amsterdam.
- moxley, on 02/10/2009, -2/+5And on top of all of this we had a president who was a closeted gay cokehead drunk, who I am sure has smoked some herb before - and our current president was a former pot smoker and nobody's trying to arrest him...
I am so tired of the bogus war on drugs, it's all a lie, and economic shell game and control vector over the public. - Inflammo, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3I definitely would be for watching him again
- Krekko, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3He should train his ass off, smoke a ton of weed, and shove it in the faces of Kellogs, subway, and whoever else gave him trouble.
I wouldnt ever want to talk to him before, but now because of this I wish I could sit him down and have a talk. - peteyb1313, on 02/10/2009, -1/+4i'm going to have a joint in his honour
- heretrix, on 02/10/2009, -1/+3He should join the Jamaican swim team.
- ViSioN, on 02/10/2009, -0/+2He should move to Canada and win some medals for us. We'd appreciate him; weed and all.
- meghalc, on 02/10/2009, -2/+4***** the big corporate *****! He should retire and open up his own gym or something.
- briguymaine, on 02/10/2009, -0/+2what if he doesn't win?
