- jlpete9, on 09/11/2008, -1/+110He just wanted to leave some room to smash the record again next time!
- Jauladeoro, on 09/11/2008, -1/+58(Looking at a replay of the race)
Reporter: "You're 30 meters into the race here and you're already celebrating with what appears to be...confetti."
Usain Bolt: "That's right. Look at dat guy enjoying a face full of celebration right der."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzSpPaCIG0g - InvisibleInk, on 09/11/2008, -3/+52He'd make an excellent wide receiver in the NFL, not the least just for his showboating end zone celebrations.
- lanzemurdok, on 09/11/2008, -2/+50i can type 100 LETTERS in 9.55 seconds
So we're sorta like the same. - strum40, on 09/11/2008, -0/+30I think he should run for office, he has an excellent track record and would do a good job right out of the gate. It would be a tight race but he could quickly overcome the hurdles that many politicians face.
- inactive, on 09/11/2008, -0/+26Considering he reportedly gets a six-figure bonus for breaking a record, I can't fault him for not going all out in every race. He wants to keep those checks rolling in.
- macballer30, on 09/11/2008, -2/+25A better question, how good would the Jamaican bobsled team have been with Usain Bolt?
feel the rhythm
feel the rhyme
come on Jamaica
it's bobsled time!!! - Lesh, on 09/11/2008, -1/+21Damn...that's unbelievable
- LilJimmyNordin, on 09/11/2008, -2/+22Or with my stereo in his arms?
- rockstar1o9, on 09/11/2008, -1/+19He gets a bonus everything he breaks the World Record. So it's in his interest to keep breaking it again and again, little by little, instead of blowing it out of the water in a single run.
- Blankey, on 09/11/2008, -0/+18There's more to being a WR in the NFL than being freakishly fast.
- Xihix, on 09/11/2008, -0/+17Wow. I guess it doesn't seem like it, but those .14 seconds would probably be a huge difference. I wonder if he'll be able to break it in 2012.
- jodofashodo, on 09/11/2008, -2/+19I'm keeping things symetrical with an exclamation point on the even number comments!
- rockstar1o9, on 09/11/2008, -0/+17But you can reasonably learn everything else. You can't learn to run a 100m in 9.55 secs.
- Mononuclear, on 09/11/2008, -1/+17He didn't really care about his time. He wanted to win and he did. He celebrated his winning.
- bikaner2007, on 09/11/2008, -6/+22He is named appropriately!
- EtherGnat, on 09/11/2008, -0/+15I think it was a little over the top, but he's young and I found his enthusiasm contagious. His actions didn't seem to be directed at anybody, just a genuine display of emotion. He also seems to get along well with the other sprinters.
I'm actually more annoyed at the people that broke world records and act like it's nothing. Show at least a little enthusiasm when you accomplish something most of us can only dream of doing. Hell, I show more enthusiasm when I unjam the copier. ::fist pump::
Note: While I don't have a problem with his celebration, I would have found it funny as hell if he had tripped or been caught by another runner. It was dumb, but not mean spirited. - Jwoey, on 09/11/2008, -0/+15Psh. I can do 200mm in 9.53seconds.
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -0/+15Pretty slow what with all of the decompression and spasms.
- BlaqReaper, on 09/11/2008, -0/+15Correct me if I'm wrong, but he was also running against the wind. I'm curious how much time he could shave off if he was running with the wind too.
- lis880, on 09/11/2008, -1/+15Somebody needs to get that sand out of their vagina
- Zipko, on 09/11/2008, -0/+13Put him in pads and let a corner jam him at the line. He's fast but way too skinny to be a wide receiver. Maybe a return specialist if he has any agility and can actually hold onto the ball, but even in that role I doubt he could take a hit.
- shutaro, on 09/11/2008, -0/+13How fast could he have run in a vacuum?
- Iztikeit, on 09/11/2008, -1/+14Why do those things when he can just run and not worry about a 350 lb. retard falling on him?
- ieatpizza, on 09/11/2008, -0/+13ONE MILLION SECONDS PER SECOND
- tbredofsin, on 09/11/2008, -0/+10More realistically, though, if you bulked him up a little and tossed him in pads, as you would have to do, his speed would be reduced considerably.
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -0/+10You're mostly wrong. There is a limit to the wind speed for record runs but it is not zero. Otherwise you'd pretty much need an indoor stadium to go for a record.
- akphidelt, on 09/11/2008, -1/+11eh, I bet its more like 4.1. NFL has some incredibly fast players with some track and field studs. Not saying they would beat him in a race, but he wouldn't be dominate in the NFL just cause he has a fast 100 meter time... although it would be nice to see him on the field.
- bduddy, on 09/11/2008, -0/+10And the asphyxiation, don't forget that.
- dagr8tim, on 09/11/2008, -0/+9I was just going to point that out. Before the race, the announcers said he'd never break a world record due to the head wind.
- LukeBeaumont, on 09/11/2008, -3/+12I think if you just smashed the world record, you'd do the same thing.
- sfacets, on 09/11/2008, -0/+8Not very fast at all?
- AceyS, on 09/11/2008, -0/+8Thank you!!! That video is frikken hilarious. Made my day.
- IceSixxx, on 09/11/2008, -0/+8Think about Sergeï Bubka...
- junkwheel, on 09/11/2008, -1/+9"A former and highly successful editor of New Scientist magazine, who raised New Scientist magazine to great new heights, was asked: 'What is your philosophy at New Scientist?'.
He said, 'Our philosophy at New Scientist is this: science is interesting, and if you don't agree, you can ***** off!'"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_2xGIwQfik - madrid, on 09/11/2008, -0/+7Fail(!)
- inactive, on 09/11/2008, -1/+8He was restricting himself so that he didn't cause the earth to spin in the other direction, thus reversing time.
- MaLLiii, on 09/11/2008, -0/+7Usain Bolt > my car :(
- EtherGnat, on 09/11/2008, -0/+7"He's fast but way too skinny to be a wide receiver."
He's more suited to the role than any other Olympic sprinter I've ever seen. He'd need to bulk up 20 pounds or so but he's 6'4", 190 lbs. and looks to be built like a tank. There are a lot of issues, but I don't think his build would be a major one. - MrC539, on 09/11/2008, -1/+7greatest movie ever
- shredswithpiks, on 09/11/2008, -0/+6what car, what altitude? this is important...
- nullcodes, on 09/11/2008, -0/+5Sustain maximum speed and risk injury or sprain?
No thanks. - explnx, on 04/27/2009, -2/+7I can do 1/4 mile in 11 seconds (in a car).
- mannymix03, on 09/11/2008, -1/+6isn't he getting paid like $10,000 from his government or some bonus for every world record he breaks? If he has the record in the bag why strain? If he breaks it again next year thats another easy check
- inactive, on 09/11/2008, -0/+5Michael Phelps may be skilled, but he doesn't have a name that matches his sport.
Usain BOLT? That's cool. - quomen, on 09/11/2008, -0/+4His strength is actually not his start. He has to get moving in order to make use of his incredibly long llegs. I'd take Tyson Gay or Asafa Powell for the 40.
- nullcodes, on 09/11/2008, -0/+4What penalty? He ran the 100m in the fastest time ever by any human being. You can do what you like to him but you can't change that fact.
Grow up. - shutaro, on 09/11/2008, -1/+5That doesn't change the fact that he won the Olympics.
- Karkian, on 09/11/2008, -0/+4RTFA.
- RyanOC, on 09/12/2008, -0/+4Exactly, just like Steve Jobs works it, Don't bring all you have all at once. Thats why they keep having new nanos every week and everyone wishes they waited for the new one.
